  • The Olympus OM series of cameras have a cord pulley system to guide the travel of the shutter curtains. An inadvertent poke with a thumb can cause the the cord to jump a pulley and leave the shutter curtain bunching and unevenly position. This video shows how to access the shutter roller pulley.

    This is fantastic. I’m just reassembling my OM2n after fixing a winding problem (it was a loose rewind cam blocking everything). I have a question: how do you correctly align the ASA/compensation dial on the top plate with the internal knob?

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  Před 3 lety +1

      The knob will typically self align as the ASA dial is rotated. The slot and the spring loaded finger once engaged will seat. Check for proper engagement by rotating the ASA dial both directions while pointing the camera at a light source. Watch for corresponding needle movement.

Can I follow this video to the point where you reposition the chord on to the pulley and then re-attach the curtain to the one side where it has detached? What would you use to re-attach the cloth curtain to the one side? I checked your video inventory and could not locate a video to address my issue. If you do have one, please let me know. Hello to you Mongolia. You are welcome and thank you for your interest in FOC. It sounds as if maybe you mirror latch lever is stuck or sluggish. Try gently holding the mirror down has you wind the camera. If the camera does not fire at this point... once wound release the mirror. If it pops up and releases the camera then it is an issue with the mirror latching.

    The front cover plate under mirror can be easier unscrewed after you remove prism and focussing screen. The screwdriver wouldn't be under such bad angle.

    • @FixOldCameras

      That is true... just be very careful of the meter needle. It is easily damaged when removing the viewfinder screen frame.

    I didn't see where the bad foam mentioned at the beginning was replaced. Is it necessary, and if yes is there a recommended thickness?

    • @FreakTimmah
      @FreakTimmah Před 3 lety

      That foam around the prism isn't actually necessary. Olympus put it there because they thought light might leak into the prism from the flash shoe connector but it's not a problem and they stopped using it on later versions. That foam does degrade over time and becomes a sticky goo that destroys the silvering on the prism. An OM10 is a cheap parts camera if you end up needing a new prism, otherwise you just remove the foam and live with the slight damage. It just affects the view finder, image quality is fine.

    • @FixOldCameras
      @FixOldCameras  Před 3 lety

      @@FreakTimmah Thanks for the comments. Good information to pass along. It has long been a mystery as to why the foam around the prism. Speculation from dust seal to sound dampening... but your explanation seems the most likely.

    Hi there!
    I've been referred to you by my local camera shop. I've got an old Olympus OM2N that has been very solid and reliable for the two or so years thast I've owned it but suddenly light meter has stopped working.
    The batteries are fresh and when I push the dial to check the red light comes on showing that it is getting power. I don't think the needle is stuck because it worked one day then not the next plus when I give it a bump on the side while looking through I think I can see it move.
    I have pulled off the top and bottom cover and cleaned everything that looked a little dirty (nothing was too bad). All wired look solidly soldered. Do you have any suggestions?
    Cheers mate!
