Elton held the record for the most concerts at MSG until Billy Joel performed a series of performances there. Elton’s 60th performance at MSG was on 25 March 2007. That was his 60th birthday.
I remember back in the eighties, the first big pop concert I ever went to, was Elton John performing at Western Springs, Auckland, NZ. Everything went pitch black, and with no giant TV screens on stage back then, all we saw was this highly decorated Xmas tree walk out on stage, it was Elton covered in multi-coloured blinking lights. And then he sat down and played - the many speakers each side of the stage were stacked as high as the super structure itself - omg did it sound so good! Brilliant concert. Western Springs is natural amphitheatre, an old volcanic crater, I wonder if they still have concerts there?
Live is fine and Elton is great live BUT...The real magic is in the studio recordings😮😊!!!
Saturday Nights Alright for Fighting or the Bitch Is Back are great rock/pop songs. Have you listened to Levon, Madman Across The Water and Funeral For A Friend? The great drummer, Nigel Olssen is worth finding out about. He provides great backing vocals, has released solo albums and has raced cars for many years. His performances and recordings, with Ellton, run into the thousands. The legendary Ray Cooper provides percussion and he is a show all on his own. His hand and arm flourishes are wonderful.
Elton did not write the words it was Bernie Taupin Elton wrote the music.
I remember seeing a documentary on Elton and they gave him a poem and he set it to a tune live. I think he did that as a party trick when he was young!
He’s been given an oven operating instruction booklet and other pieces to put to music on the spot as well.
Concerning Elton's falsetto, after his throat surgery, Elton could no longer reach the high notes he was famous for before the surgery was done. However, Elton said he likes his voice better than before because it gave him a deeper tone.
Crocodile is a lovely resort. When I went, I bought a stick of crocodile rock and a bag of candy floss.
