This video, "Papa" didn't exist...this character was Cardinal Copia. Each version of Papa Emeritus has ALWAYS been a full mask, with black makeup around the eyes. The heavy bit at the end was actually a bit from the previous album - an instrumental called Spoksonat.

Tobias sings and plays almost all the instruments on the recordings, including guitar, and bass. He usually hires a drummer for the sessions. Then he assembles a band for the road.
This album was a concept album about the plague. Tobias plays guitar, drums and bass and writes all the songs solo.
In Flames would be a great reaction.

Fun Fact: The scenes in the video with the choreography, that is not Tobias in the mask and outfit. It is a trained dancer. You can actually tell because they are noticeably shorter than Tobias and the mask doesn't fit right. Great reaction as always. Would love for you guys to do more Mudvayne (now that they are back together and touring).
Notice the "pale horse" and Tobias at the end, this is one of the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse, it represents Pestilence.

Ghost is a great band, some people call them "Scooby Doom", which i think is funny, and more on-point than Bubble gum metal.
I saw Ghost for the first time in 2019, they put on a great show! I like their live performances better than the studio versions
I saw them open for SOAD in Chicago in 2019 - I barely knew them at that point but they completely blew me away, and they're now one of my favorite bands. Miasma was one of the best live performances I have ever seen, regardless of genre.

As far as Tobias playing instruments he is really talented at playing guitar. he was skeptical to singing in Ghost since he didnt think he was a good enough singer. There are lots of videos of him talking about creating some of the awesome ghost riffs.
The album which both Rats and Dance Macarbe is from has a plague theme and the rats spread it. Dance Macabre is about two lovers who are separated and dying before they can meet again. At least thats my understanding.
As far as the mask, its part of a whole backstory. There is a bloodline of Emeritus where all the "singers" comes from. Usually they "kill" the singer in creative ways on live shows and elect a new antipope who becomes the next papa. The bloodline ran out however and they introduced the cardinal Copia who was a son from out of marriage and last year he transcended to the new Papa Emeritus the fourth.

Obviously the song is metaphoric but who knew a song about rats could be so fun to dance to?
Whole video feels like the movie Repo: A Genetic Opera
When you listen to the album this song comes from (called Prequelle) from start to finish, it is basically a musical about living in a European city during the time of the Black Death. Rats is the first track and sets the scene for the story to come in the subsequent songs. The whole thing is a masterpiece.
Love your Ghost reactions, you bring joy and happiness! You should actually check out the shorts "Ghost - chapter 1-8" to get a little back story (and they're great fun too!), even though they're not music videos per se. You do get Kiss the Go-Goat at the end of chapter 8 though.
Other Ghost songs to check out is Year Zero, From the Pinnacle to the Pit and Faith. Keep 'em coming, please!

Tobias plays dozens of instruments. Ghost is his project, the Nameless Ghouls and Ghoulettes are hired for live performances. Think of him like Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails, a one man band in the studio. He writes, composes and co-produces everything.
I hope yall know that ye are my current favourite youtubers at the moment, i love watching people that dont listen to rock/metal music and actually enjoy it so much and appreiciate it, i found ye because i love Ghost, and i found ye through your reactions, i love both of you, keep up the rappers react!
Reactions like this one is why I'm here. Honestly I've been aware of Ghost but had yet to actually hear them. Y'alls description had me intrigued but when I realized you had hit the nail on the head I was like Yeah these guys are good and afterwards when I heard "Dance Metal" I added a phrase to my lexicon. Y'all killed it !

The Franchise's finisher was a belly to belly suplex. He trained with Mick Foley under Dominic Denucci, who actually just passed away last week. Jersey Triad with him, Candido, and Bam Bam Bigelow was awesome.

Really sad to think that most of them are dead. Only Shane and Dallas are left. Rip to Chris candido, bam bam, Chris Kanyon and also to denucci like you said.

The more I think of it Douglas was with the Revolution w/Malenko, Saturn, and he who shall not be named. Think with them they feuded with the Triad. We're talking late WCW here so most of that is a fever dream at this point.

If you have never heard another Ghost song your in for a treat. Year Zero, Faith, Square Hammer, Absolution, Pinnacle to the Pit, Cirice, He Is.....just pull up any live version and you will be hooked. Oh and the official videos for Cirice and He Is are must see.

The term "dance metal" or "Tanz metal" actually does exist and is a German term used to describe bands such as rammstein, oomph!, eisbrecher, etc. Basically metal/hard rock with classic ebm/industrial influences more or less.

I remember going to a "Deathstars" concert, and the posters said "Dance Metal". Not sure how they got to that idea but the result was there were many blond pigtailed chicks at the concert. And by the end of it they were all raising the horns going full metal with it. The sound is a mix between Rammstein and Marilyn Manson. "Cyanide" is a really cool song.

The intelligence of this band is astounding. Their knowledge of religion and history hooked me.
In my opinion, anything off of the Clayman album would be the best starting point with In Flames for Smokey and 6ix.

This was a concept album about the black plague. The dark circles under the eyes is a symptom of the plague. If you go back and look at the dance macabre video there are people at the party with plague doctor masks. It all ties together.

I fucking love Ghost seen them live I there occasions. When I saw them at The Royal Albert hall and then supporting Metallica at Twickeham they were incredible.

Every time I see Hollywood6ix written in the background I can't help but think of the song 'Hollywood Seven' by Jon English. And if you like that, check out his cover of Bob Seger's 'Turn the Page'. He absolutely nails it!
Yeah just reiterating: Papa always has prosthetic makeup masking his entire face in all of his appearances. The reason there's no skull makeup is this was during the Cardinal Copia phase. He wasn't yet the next Papa so no skull makeup on the mask. He is now Papa Emeritus IV though.
I would give you "bubble gum" but the themes and lyrics are far darker.

I think of it as jukebox metal, a lot of the rhythm is 60s to 80s and his voice cuts through generations
Ghost is heavily influenced by Swedish doom metal bands like Candlemass. So they are basically "colorful doom metal". The influence really comes out in the song Cirice.
Saw Ghost last night in Portland. This song hits way different after two years of COVID.
I know who Ghost is although I've never listened to them. I'd give it a term of "Synth-rock" as well as glam rock, bubblegum rock etc. As always, great job fellers! 🤘🏼💙🤘🏼

Going to totally age myself. But Tobias' dancing in this video reminds me of the old show in the 80s called "Fame". No idea why but it does lol.
Their live shows post 2018 are great, as they focused mainly on their sound. I like most of their more recent performances more than studio. I recommend checking those out.

Fun fact about Ghost, Tobias Forge can play every instrument. In fact I think he's Swedens Trent Reznor as in hes a one man band.

Oew, In Flames is absolutely awesome with many many great songs. They recently re recorded/mastered one of their best albums (Clayman) and it really divides the fans. The original was just so good with a very special sound. The re-recorded/mastered one is upped in quality and cleaned up so ofcourse not everyone likes it. Personally it took me a few times but now i prefer "Only for the weak" and "Clayman" from the new album.
But again there are so many other great songs. "When the world explodes" is pretty cool with an female singer added.

I'd recommend "Kiss the Go-Goat" to review next, simply because they don't as yet, have an official video for Mary on a Cross, (although there is a fan made one w/footage from the 2015 short film O Negative.)

Nah, that was Justin Andrews as a young Papa Nihil in "Dance Macabre," not Tobias
The character here is Cardinal Copia. He wears masks with all characters he portrays. The guy in the Dance Macabre video is not Tobias and portrays the young version of Papa Nihil who in Ghost mythos was the original Frontman of Ghost and had 3 sons who later became Papa Emeritus 1-3. There's a whole video series introducing cardinal copia who is the first Ghost front man to not be satanic pope and also not from the bloodline of Nihil. Cardinal became Emeritus IV in 2019 but due to Covid we haven't been given any new info. Check out the song "Kiss the Go-Goat" to see Nihil in his heyday
In the wider Ghost mythology, Papa III had failed in for mission of overthrowing churches and governments, sadly, so had to step down (And was killed, but I digress). And Papa Zero had no more progeny, so they pulled in Cardinal Copia. He was much slicker - more of a cheesy lounge singer type. Later, at their last live show before the shutdown, Papa Zero died on stage, following his sax solo (naturally). At that point, nuns came on stage and redressed Copia, promoting him to Papa IV.
