The portrayal of Josephine in the film is solid, but in this scene it is historically completely wrong. Josephine is/was infertile and could not bear Bonaparte an heir to the throne. She was therefore (to put it bluntly) useless to him. So it was Josephine who was dependent on Napoleon Bonaparte and not the other way round.

Joséphine was really important to Napoleon's rule, especially in high society circles with her appearance and manner (She bunked with virtually every important French revolutionary leader before marrying Napoleon including Paul Barres of the Directory, (France's Government before Napoleon's 1799 coup).
She was a paton of the arts. Her son Eugène was one of Napoleon's finest military commanders and administrators. Even most historians of this era regard Eugène as more competent than Napoleon's own brothers. Finally, through her son Joséphine is related to nearly every royal house in Europe (abolished or present) and, at one time, Brazil.

She held his heart and soul in the palm of her hand. So yes Napoleon was quite dependant on Josephine.

Disappointment of the year. It's too much like "The King" with Timothee Chalamet. Angsty for the sake of it, and yes, full of historical inaccuracies, seemingly for Scott's own childish amusement. Austerlitz, Borodino and Waterloo are completely misrepresented and trivialised, and the battle scenes generally just feel brief and unconvincing. It literally just looks like 300 extras in a field with CGI blood added in. None of Napoleon's real tactical genius is represented, let alone done justice. The acting is solid throughout, however a film in french with a french cast was the only way this subject should have been dealt with. It was filmed over a short timeframe and it really shows- the story wanders and stumbles around so much that I was left wondering if even Ridley Scott knew what the aim of his own film was. A sad end result from a production that promised so much and a director that is capable of great things.
