    I used the FILBE during my time in the Marine Corps and I have the MOLLE II now that I'm in the Army National Guard. I prefer the FILBE of the two options. I actually went and purchased my own FILBE since I liked using it so much more.

      seeweezeke , I ran across ur comment on the outdoor gear review when Luke compared the molle II ruck and the filbe ruck and saw that u had a woodland and a multicam molle II rucksack, I have a brand new acu digital large rucksack just wondering if u be interested in a trade on either? I don't have any multicam but really love the look, I do however have a lot of woodland. Just a thought?

  • @Микаэльножницы

    Came here just to post this:
    I used a MOLLE II Large rucksack during my OSUT, and I guess I found it a little lacking, but seeing as they run anywhere from $30-$70 on ebay, I bought one at $35.
    I also bought industrial-grade acid dye (not [sh]Rit dye) purposed for dying the pack.
    The main pack came out with a green-blue hue, but the sustainment packs came out deep indigo BLUE, for whatever reason.
    Just don't dye your packs. Its really better to just spray-paint them (not even kidding, it does work)

    I have a MOLLE 2, however it is the older style with the sleep system carrier separate. I prefer that version because I don't always need a sleep system or a large rucksack and therefore I can remove them individually unlike the newer version with the integrated sleep system

    Supply and demand: no one wants anything ACU. That's why they're so cheap and plentiful. Try getting a multicam molle 2 rucksack. ACU biggest waste of taxpayer dollars.

    Hey man I love your reviews you got some great gear and survival skills ! I have both packs too the Marine FILBE and the Army's Multicam Molle 2 large ruck. I like them both. I think the filbe is a little more durable and well made and my military sleep system fits better in it, than the molle 2 but if you buy the buttpack for the molle 2 it helps, you put your gortex bivy in that and makes room for the other pieces of the sleep system in the bottom of the pack. I only have the main pack and frame with the filbe, I don't have the whole system like hydration bag and the rest of the set but you only need the 2 pieces I think. Right now I'm using the Multicam Molle 2 it seems a little wider to me and more user friendly. they both have a ton of roomI like the barrel drawstring to open the main compartment on the molle 2 better than the closure on the filbeut I like the load strap inside the filbe and the molle 2 does not have one. I reccomend either bag. If you need a big bag on a budget and you want camo go with the molle 2 large or medium ruck. If you want more molle webbing and you have the money to spend go with the filbe ! Both are great packs !!

    all ALICE type packs are very similar in design: it's just a huge huge pocket. The main difference is the quality of the frame. Apparently the FILBE has a better and more durable frame than the MOLLE 2, but both are still prone top break under heavy load or strong impacts.

    hi bro, thanks for the comparison.
    the difference in the frame design is due to the fact that the filbe needed to be more flexible than the molle ii, because the molle frame tended to brake when the pack was dropped from a truck when fully loaded.

    Molle 2 have official load lifter spots on the frame. To have a semblance of load lifters on the FILBE, you have to place something on the top lip of pack and make/attach load lifters to it. I wonder about the maximum torso length of both.

  • @wgiles51
    @wgiles51 Před 3 lety

    Before there was a FILBE system, there was a Down East Industries 1606 pack frame which is a plastic improved LC II pack frame and was sold as an improved ALICE pack frame. You can still buy them from Down East Industries, alone or as the "Son of ALICE" pack. The FILBE is basically an ALICE pack frame with a much improved suspension. The MOLLE was a complete redesign of the military pack system and suspension. As you have noticed, the MOLLE II suspension and the FILBE suspension have much in common. The weakest link in both is the plastic pack frame. If you have the money, there are much better aftermarket systems available.

    Hello. I would like to parrot Canal Tierraventura's post and ask if the frames are inter-changeable with the packs themselves ?? Also... just as a point of interest, the FILBE has the sides "sleeved" for extra carry of gear such as hiking poles, an axe ... or a long gun such as a rifle or shotgun. I had to say so because THAT was what made me buy the filbe over the molle main pack ... that and it was $25 (!!!!) at my local surplus.

  • @13rustyking
    @13rustyking Před 10 lety +1

    Hey Boy Scout Survival! I would go with the FILBE! The FILBE has a better color, has more molle webbing, there is a radio pouch/ bladder holder inside the main compartment, there are water bottle holders on each side of the FILBE, and there are load compressors on the inside of both the sleep system area and the gear area in the FILBE. You are going to pay more money for it but it is worth it completely. You can also switch out the original frame for an ALICE frame too(if you know what that is). Hope this helps! Ebay is the place to get either pack! PS: the FILBE has a better storm flap on it too and there is a place for a name tape on the flap along with having zippers on the map pouch rather than loud velcro. There;s my two cents! God bless and enjoy the outdoors! And as the scout motto goes be PREPARED!

    • @kolinmartz
      @kolinmartz Před 6 lety

      Rusty King more Webbing just means more things to snag on when you’re out and about. And you probably won’t be mounting a lot of external pouches on your ruck (you know, everyone always says you want your weight high and near the Center.) I think where the molle has webbing is really the only places you’d want to add weight.

    Alice pack lovers should enjoy the FILBE pack. I love the Alice in terms of aesthetics and history, however I can't stand the way it rides. Therefore, I don't love the FILBE. For me the Molle ii rides way better. In retrospect, I probably ought to bust out that FILBE again and try to adjust the shoulder straps up, as I have a short torso and adjusted them down, however, the FILBE frame is shorter than the Molle ii so I may have adjusted it too far down. 🤔

It isn't as top heavy as a civilian backpack like North Face and so one. But the Molle 2 weighs 8 ilbs. without the pouches or anything on it. These packs aren't bomb proof. Is it possible that the Molle II is available in different colours or patterns besides the ACU? Why are both the FILBE and the Molle II have different price? Both of the them have some things in common but still not much different but the price. Jeez! Though you said it may be the cause of it come out later than the Molle II. Who knows?!

      Blue this are military bags and the FILBE is a standard issue for the USMC while the MOLLE is standard issue for the army its basic supply and demand obviously the’r more soldiers then there is marines so there are more MOLLE packs in the market then the FILBE

    That's odd... At my local store, the MOLLE II is $150. Is this a rip off? Or it because I live in Canada?

      ***** You can definitely find them cheaper on ebay. Maybe if it's new....I would look around if it was me.

    I am a big guy but those packs are a little big for a long hike. I figured why you need one of them. All the food you eat you need one that big. LOL I have an Alice medium w/pvc frame and that is as big as I want. Thanks for showing us all you do. Enjoying all the reports lately.

    I picked one up and thought it was in great shape but noticed some tearing at the corners of the lid.
    I've been looking for a complete one in decent shape, unfortunately I've noticed they are very hard to find and if I do find them most shops try to piece it out separately and most times they are not in great shape.
    What's the quality difference between the filbe and molle 2?

    I have the ILBE and MOLLE II. From what I can tell the MOLLe II is pretty much the same pack as the FILBE. The frames are made by the same company so the FILbE actually has a molle frame.

      The MOLLE and the FILBE are very, very similar in design. I personally love the color of the FILBE though.
      Be well and take care.
