Cody tackles the toughest questions we receive about our red dot mounting plates.
Our red dot mounts are made from 7075 T6 aircraft grade aluminum and are hardcoat anodized. They are machined to be a press in fit in the dovetail cuts on pistols and revolvers. Certain manufacturer's slides may require some minor fitting to properly install the mount.
All of our mounts come with the required installation hardware.
We now have optics ready plates for:

Our mounts will not work with Optics Ready models including but not limited to:
Glock MOS
S&W M&P Core
Canik TP9SFX
We recommend using a sight pusher tool to remove the old sight and install our mounting plate. Delrin or brass punches can be used, but we always recommend the sight pusher tool.
Sight pusher tools are available at Brownell's, MidwayUSA, and Amazon.
Most of our mounts have a slight lead on the dovetail cut and are meant to be installed from the left to the right.
We recommend using a drip of blue loctite. This will act as a lubricant when installing and will also be an extra layer of protection keeping the mount in place. We recommend not over tightening the set screw.
The mounting screws use a 5/64 bit and should be tightened to 15 in/lbs or whatever the recommend torque is from the manufacturer of the red dot.
We offer a ton of mounts for many different rear sight cuts. If you are unsure of your rear sight cut, please give us a call and we can help guide you to choose the correct dovetail cut.

I put one on my Glock 17/22C about a year ago! Top quality product. Great instructions. Easy to install. I've got at least 5000 rds through it and not a lick of problems. The zero hasn't shifted one bit either. I'll buy another one when I need one.

Hi Adam, if your 320 is the RX and has the Romeo 1 Pro, we do not have a plate that will work for you. The 320 RX plate that we currently make is for the slides cut for the first gen Romeo 1 which had a different footprint than the Romeo 1 Pro.

Hi Harold, thanks for contacting us. We don't have anything that will fit the Star BM off the shelf. I don't know how much different the G.I. site is from the Star rear sight, depending on how close they are it may be a good starting point. If the dimensions are not close enough, you can always use our blank mount and take it to a local gunsmith and have them machine it to fit your dovetail. Thanks!
Does the mount block the decocker on the walther p99?
I just ordered SKU: 49307 for my H&K VP9 and straight up I can't get it to go all the way into the dovetail slot. I have been beating the hell out of it, using a sight pusher, I have marked up the pistol and the slide to high heaven at this point and I cannot get it all the way in. Any tips or tricks or maybe a video or something?

Hey I’m wondering if there’s a mount available for a HK usp .40 compact lem. I can’t seem to find one online nor can I find a reputable company that provides a milling service for it I read something about not being able to make a cut due to parts the inside of the slide being in the way. It seems like the usp compact doesn’t have many upgrades available.

Don't you lose co-witness if you replace the rear sight with the optic mount? How do you get around that?
It'd be cool of the mount had a surpressor height rear sight as part of the frame so that you could drift the frame as your rear iron sight and then mount your red dot so that it's visible in the lower third of the glass.
glock sells one like that themselves for around $120 but you can also find some from random brands for as low as $15 if you just search "glock sight mounting plate with iron sights"

a lot of the red dots now have a rear iron built in to the dot for example - holosun 507k, romeo zero, leupold deltapoint, etc
I don't see this on your website, but I wonder if you could extend the front or rear edge of the mount to incorporate a rear backup sight.
Thanks for reaching out. We don't offer that option on our mounts, but there are some other manufacturers who do incorporate rear sights in their mounts.

Thank you for the great informative video. I just ordered your adapter plate and a Vortex Venom for my 9mm. Since the optic will be raised above the slide and co-witnessing is not possible, will the Venom have enough elevation adjustment to compensate? Any suggestions? Also, what color loctite do you recommend?
Hi, thanks for reaching out! The Venom has a LOT of internal adjustment, as do almost all of the red dots on the market these days. It should have enough travel for you. We always recommend blue loctite.

Hi Ralph, I'm not sure if the Beretta APX rear sights cross reference with any other company's rear sights. I also haven't been able to find any information if the Kahles fits on any of the common red dot adapter plates.

I can't seem to find one. & unfortunately the design of the pistol's slide isn't milling friendly; are the dovetail mounts reliable at holding a good zero and what are some of the cons vs a milled slide? Hi Nathan, we have a few mounts for the Ruger Autos. Which red dot are you looking to mount? Our listing shows it fits models 90-95 as well. We have had great success with our red dot plates and they do reliably hold zero. If you mill a slide you are stuck with that "footprint" or red dot unless you swap out your slide, which is easier said than done.

Noob ass question but I just bought my first glock 17 and i bought the vortex viper red dot mount to mount it. My concern is that the mount deletes the rear sight which I thought you needed for the red dot. Do you actually need a rear sight or can you just run a red dot with trijicon tritium front sights?
Hi Eduardo, our plates do not allow you to cowitness. To cowitness you would need to have the slide milled so the red dot can sit lower.
Do you guys have yet a mounting plate adapter for the Taurus G3. Thought that if the Taurus is comparable with the glock rear sights then why the plates wont fit a Taurus G3?

So I have the delta point pro version (49402) for cz dovetail mount. Fits the cz fine, but the holes for the ddp to plate are too small. Is this expected? The screws supplied with the mount from egw are too short, and the screws supplied from leupold are too wide. Do I need to purchase different screws?

I have a bersa tpr9 XT. It has a slide cutout from just behind the ejection port to the rear end of the slide, but Bersa said that it is designed to accomodate a Sig #8 dovetail adapter plate. The current adjustable iron rear sight mounts in the dovetail slot and has two mounting screws through the dovetail. So does EGW have an adapter plate that will fit this weapon?
We have mounts that will fit the sig #8 rear dovetail. After looking at the tpr9, we are unsure if it will work due to the dimensions above the dovetail. We believe our adapter plates will be too long.

Got mine ! It worked for the glock 19 and a holosun 507c ! Fast install - looks good / noticed a small gap between the front of the RMR and the top of glock slide ? Is that normal ? I tightened down all the screws - so ??? I’m guessing it’s designed that way - let me know what you think or people comment please - I can see just a little daylight between the front 65-70 percent of the actual rmr sight - and then it’s touching and tight in back
There should be a small gap at the front of the plate between the bottom of the mounting plate and the slide of the Glock.
I have a rugged sr9c and I want to put a red dot on it but it has the load indicator on it. Do I need to remove the back site to install it.
Hi Cheri, we don't currently make a plate for the Ruger SR9c, but we will hopefully have one in a few months. The engineers will take the LCI in to account. You would need to remove the rear sight.

Purchased EGW Red Dot Sight Mount #49307 for H&K VP9 (2020 model with optics plate. Doesn't seem to actually seat on VP9??? What's more, it appears that pre-drilled hole on Vortex Optics Venom don't line up?

What's an affordable micro red dot sight that's compatable with the Ruger Mark II 22/45? I honestly dont have the 250 for a Venom Vortex. Can you steer me into a good direction?
We have had some customers use ADE or UTG red dots that can be found on Amazon. They don't always fit on our plates out of the box and may require minor fitting to work with them.

Hi Mark, I'm not sure what kind of dovetail cut the Astra has, whether it is specific to the gun or if it uses something standard like a Novak cut. If you are able to figure out what type of rear sight cut it has, we can check to see if we have anything that fits. We also have blank mounts that you can have a local gunsmith or machinist cut to fit the dovetail too.

Hi, thanks for reaching out! I will add that to our list of videos to make. It is the same plate for both the Shadow 2 and the SP01 Shadow, you remove the rear sight with a rear sight removal tool or a punch. Normally rear sights are removed from the right to left and our mounting plates are installed from the left to the right. We do recommend having a qualified gunsmith install our mounting plates though. no doubt i'm a noob, but i have a Taurus g2c and ordered a mounting plate just like the one in video from lake line (prob diff brand no doubt), and i can't seem to understand how to mount my red dot. to put it into my view; do I need a specific red dot? or wil any do? Since the way my red is that its two pieces, the top which holds the battery and the bottom that acts lke the ground/switch to turn it on. Do i need to purchase a red dot that i can mount without the bottom/rail holder? It's a simple ADE tactical reflex sight. Meaning it seems it's meant only for the top portion.
Hi, thanks for reaching out. There normally specific red dots that fit certain patterns. I would recommend reaching out to the companies you purchased the products from to see if they are aware if they are compatible.

Hi, thanks for contacting us. The GSG normally uses a Novak style rear sight cut. We have had customers use our mounting plate with the GSGs but just note that there may be minor fitting involved due to dimensional differences.
