Well, how to begin? Queen is legendary, this came out in 1975 and they made this video before MTV even existed. They’re considered by most as the best rock band of all time, or at least as much as the Beatles. but mostly voted the best. Freddie Mercury, the lead singer on piano, had the best vocal range of most have ever seen, the best vocals, using his voice in the most sublime way, it’s an instrument all it’s own. Millions are hooked on him and the group even now, over 30 years after his early death. Brian May (top 8 guitarists of all time, awesome) on guitar has great background vocals, could have been a lead except for Freddie standing out so much, same for Roger Taylor on drums), they all were geniuses in their own right, extremely talented, and put together, just sublime. John Deacon on bass guitar had great electronic skills, plus more. They all wrote hit songs fir the band, and themselves. BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY is and was a HUGE hit for them, groundbreaking and so multileveled, nothing done before like it. Anyway, if you didn’t appreciate that astounding harmonies and transitions, and especially the rarity of vocals like Freddie Mercury, I don’t know what to say. No auto tune, wasn’t even invented yet, and they didn’t need it. Raw talent. Brilliance. Seeing this blasé reaction, I’m way put off. Oh well.

This song was revolutionary. It was 1975, all Rock on the radio. This song comes out with harmonies shifting to a ballad, shifting to Opera shifting to Rock and back to ballad. The creativity, the talent, the uniqueness. I know nowadays, when you have grown up on music chosen by music corporations, it is rare to hear something that is different then everything else being released,

this song was released in 1975 from their 1975 album A Night at the Opera. This song and the album was Rock Opera. It hit the charts again in the early1990's when it was featured in the 1992 movie Wayne's World. it hit the charts a 3rd time after the movie came out. That's how popular Queen was and still is.

I understand you not understanding this classic.
It lasts more than 3.5 minutes and doesn't have a repetitive beat, but you have to bare in mind that there were no computers, no auto-tune and everything had to be played on real instruments and sung properly. All recorded on tape, and as someone who has spent 50 years as a musician in studios and on stage I know that you have to master your instrument or voice because there's no miming and any mistake on stage will stick out.
The music before computers was pure and could only be done by real artists with real talent.
It was a different time back then and I'm afraid to say that music today is mostly generic and very poor quality.

    • @coot1925
      @coot1925 Před 11 měsíci +1

@@randymarsh2901 I wasn't criticising them, I was just trying to help them understand the difference between musicians and music back then compared to what is produced today.
I have to agree with you that there are songs I hated many years ago that don't seem so bad now, but maybe that's because music has become soulless and doesn't require as much skill.
For example, Duran Duran was not a favourite of mine, but at least they were skillful musicians.
I was a prog-rock drummer and as you probably know it's the most complicated and difficult music to play, second only to classical.
So this is why I take such a dim view of the generic crap with vocodas and autotune being pumped out today.
It's the recording engineers who should take a majority of the credit these days. ✌❤🇬🇧

The opening acapella portion of this song is just Freddie Mercury multi-tracked. The rest of the harmonies throughout the song are Freddie, Brian (guitar) and Roger (drums and very high falsetto notes). John (bass) really didn't like to sing so rarely treated us to vocals. This is an iconic song from an iconic band. Queen never held to any genre since all four of the members are songwriters with different tastes in music. All of them have written number 1 hit songs and each of them is in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The band is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Queen's catalog is over 200 songs so there is a lot beyond Bohemian Rhapsody and while it is perhaps their most listened to song, I would say that We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions are their most recognized songs along with Another One Bites The Dust and Under Pressure which was a collaboration between Queen and David Bowie. Nobody actually knows what this song is about and Freddie never said, actually he said it was about nothing and the listener should decide what the song means to them. Headphones are really a must for this song because the engineering behind it makes it a whole different experience as they split the stereo and create panning as well as ambient sounds in the background that are not easily picked up without headphones. Thank you for your reactions.

Welcome to Queen, Skotty407! If you let yourself become immersed in their catalog, you will become a big fan. Anybody 50+ has most likely had a long relationship with this band, and especially Freddie. You need to explore this as it fits you and the more you hear/see, the more you will be taken by the band's talent and performance capabilities. These guys put on such quality performances that they are STILL doing it in front of sold out arenas even without Freddie.

Queen is a British rock band that was formed in 1970 and was comprised of:
Freddie Mercury - Lead vocals and piano
Roger Taylor - Drummer and vocals
Brian May - Lead guitar and vocals
    John Deacon - Bass guitar
Queen has released 15 studio albums, 10 live albums, 16 compilation albums, two soundtrack albums, 2 extended plays, 73 singles, and seven promotional singles.
"Bohemian Rhapsody" released originally in 1975 is the creation of Freddie Mercury but he never told anyone what he was thinking when he wrote the lyrics. Freddie tended to write in metaphors so I would not suggest taking any of his songs literally. He wanted listeners to be able to apply to the song whatever meaning it had to them personally. Not what it meant to him.
BTW - Freddie did admit that it was composed of three separate songs that he had been working on but could not seem to finish. So he decided to mash them together, adding some transitions and bridges, and created "Bohemian Rhapsody".
The "Operatic" and the "Hard Rock" sections of Bohemian Rhapsody were featured in a scene in the 1992 film Wayne's World, in which the main character and his friends headbang in a car to the rock part. They re-released Bohemian Rhapsody after the success of Wayne's World. In the United States, the song peaked at number nine in 1976 but reached a new peak of number two after appearing in the 1992 film Wayne's World.

There are some must-listen songs for you if you are curious about music from that era: Led Zeppelin "Stairway to Heaven," Pink Floyd "Comfortably Numb," Peter Gabriel "In Your Eyes (live version)," Rush "The Spirit of Radio," Yes "Roundabout," Rolling Stones "Sympathy for the Devil," Bob Dylan "Hurricane" and John Denver "Rocky Mountain High." Listening to these may change your life. The lyrics from songs in the 1970s are very important as well. Enjoy your musical journeys!

This video, first of it's kind, came out in 1975. No MTV until 1981. No autotune until 1996. I still say this first music promo video ever was the inspiration for MTV.
Before this we had live or pre-recorded live performances on tv, hearing songs on the radio, records or 8 track or you had to see concert performances. Older "music videos" you'll see from before 1981 are just clips from tv shows or live concerts.

    Pentatonix Bohemian Rhapsody Insights:
So, some things to know about this cover and video: -It took PTX years to get the arrangement to where they felt they could do the original masterpiece justice. -The cover, and especially the video, was meant to be an homage to Queen. Some of the moments paying respect were: The mono-recording of the line "easy come, easy go" followed by the panning of the voices from left to right on the line "little high, little low" (which is how the original was recorded), obviously the flashlights being used to mimic the lighting on the operatic part of the original video, the four shooting stars to represent the four members of Queen, as well as acknowledge the fact that Dr. Brian May is an astrophysicist, and the overhead shot of them lying on the couch is to represent the Sheer Heart Attack album cover. -The megaphone was just a prop. It is not needed to reproduce the electric guitar distortion. -PTX can, and does, perform this live with no backing track...something even Queen and the Great Freddie Mercury could not do. -Freddy once said he didn't care what people did with his music as long as they "...don't make it boring, darling!", so I think he would absolutely approve. -The overall video--with the "living room" and couch--is an homage to Pentatonix's own journey as a group. They lost their record deal right after winning the Sing Off and moving to LA, so they started putting out videos on CZcams, performing covers. They would sit on the couch in Kevin (beatboxer) and Avi's (bass) living room and just record themselves on Mitch's (counter tenor who took the lead on this song) iPad. Some of their earliest videos went viral and they eventually were able to secure a new deal, record an EP, go on tour, release chart-topping albums and win three Grammy awards...so they moved out of the living room and down this new, unknown road. At the end of the day, though, they're still the same choir-nerds they've always been; just happy to sit together on a couch and sing. Also when Brian Mays heard it... then he posted it on his web site with the word "ENJOY”.
