2018 Chevy Malibu crank no start. Fault code P023F time wasted because of used part bought

I was told that all the parts that were purchased for this vehicle were bought from the dealership. Only after I spent three hours working through the system, circling back to the fuel pump, control module, calling the dealership, and being told that it was on back order unavailable for a couple of months, I question the car owner in the shop to be informed that the fuel pump control module had actually been purchased off of eBay because I couldn’t get it from the dealership. The part was bad.
