  • DEMO: SIMULATED MAJOR TRAY COUNT | surgicaltechgeek flashcards
    Surgical counts are one of the most important task every surgical tech has to do. It has to be done correctly and there's no other way around it.

    In this video, I show how I demonstrate a surgical count using my brand new surgical tech geek flashcards for the major tray. I picked the major tray because it's one of the most used tray in the OR. It may not exactly look like your facilities tray but don't worry, it encompasses about 90% of what is already included in your own tray.

    What my cards are aim to do is to simulate a proper surgical count prior clinicals and sometimes even used for post clinical tech students. Memorizing this tray sets a precedence to any tray that you will open I the future. Why? because of its contents are the same, just either longer, bigger, with or without teeth and sometimes, with different names. I would rather know even atleast 50% of the instruments prior surgery than know nothing at all.

    Keep in mind that I already know this tray by heart so my counting simulation is that of someone with experience. So, to start, you must learn the instruments and what they look like and how they're used. Some may look the same but trust me, they do not. Once you know the instruments by heart, you'll be able to count them as flawless as I can and once you do that, you'll be able to go into clinicals with much more confidence. Along with my surgical pocket booklet, I believe that you will be already of the game! (I'm a little biased but I have credible reviews from students across the US that keeps me updated from their clinicals so I think that's pretty legit right? lol)

    Please follow the instructions on how to use these cards and let me know what you guys think! Just a reminder, for big, open belly cases, counts can be repetitive up to 4x (initial, before fascia, sub q, and skin). So go ahead and simulate a case 4x. The more you do it, the better!

    Goodluck future ST!

    I’m a new nurse in the OR and they teach us to scrub at my facility (only the newer orientees) and they are testing all the nurses on a basic major tray regardless if they scrub or not.

    Do you have any videos posted about how you studied your information in school? Before instruments, just textbook info? I’ve just started this semester

    When you setting up the operating room, "Are you timed on setting up the instrument table"?

    • @SURGICALTECHGEEK
      @SURGICALTECHGEEK  Před 2 lety

      Not necessarily timed but you are given alloted time to set up so for 730 case, you get there by 0630, 0645 huddle then you put all all ur supplies together and open. Be ready by 730 and if u have time, eat something

      When they look at your resume, do you have to have a "Basic Life Support" certification and pass your national certification exam with all flying flags or what?? I'm freaking out cuz my parents did me wrong

    • @SURGICALTECHGEEK
      @SURGICALTECHGEEK  Před 2 lety

      Hmm... we wear hats all the time so they probably won't see it but the school might enforce no pink hair and also, your interview. Not professional
