Just to point out, v4 does reduced damage to friendly units due to its ability to hit them at all times, specificaly half damage, a v4 missle is enough to 1 shot an athena cannon from a different team :)
so to summarize: Athena Cannons Pros: fastest atk spd, great defensive ability. Cons: projectile is mildly dodgeable, very fragile Wave Force Artillery Pros: highest damage, most accurate bombardment unit, can unleash short bursts of atks. Cons: mildly slow atk spd, attacks reset if target is out of range, most expensive bombardment unit. V4 Pros: cheapest bombardment unit, small size helps in pathfinding, ability is devastating in large army engagements, can attack even with an environmental obstacle in the way. Cons: lowest damaging bombardment unit, slowest projectile, default attack is mediocre and highly dodgeable
Also like to add that the V4 fires much quicker than the other two, which both have a charge up time before their attacks, so the V4 can shoot and scoot away.
I think the most powerful thing about the Empire's heavy bombardment tank is that it can pre-fire with its ability so with a bit of micro it has a surprisingly fast fire rate and low overkill.

But their charged shots take forever to max out before firing, leaving them vulnerable to cryocopters, magnetic satellite, or a charge from Tsunami tanks with nanoshields on.

@@nonya_bidness if microd its a whole other story for all of them, but if the wave force fires at the athena and the athena tanks it by using its shield while the V-4 fires at the wave force then the wave force loses, if the wave force fires at the V-4 then it would die to the athena unless it can somehow out DPS the athena which only needs 2 hits while it kills the V-4 1st which would help out the athena cuz your practically killing what trying to kill it
The waveforce has pierce, athena has shield, V4s are cheaper and can use scatter rockets to improve anti-infantry damage and have better hit chance vs army groups... As always RA3 is pretty balanced once you learn the details and THINK of the prices.
i actually use scatter and attackground it on choakpoints. this gets my v4 promoted to elite fast. you need to put aa though as allied AI actually uses gyrocopter counter them with shrink. so annoying.
Most comparing videos are kind of misleading, but this one's omissions are huge: 1/ The V4 actually does GREAT damage, but it suffered 50% damage penalty in this test due to friendly fire. So the damage test is biased. 2/ Number matters. You can buy 3 V4s at the price of 2 WFAs. 3/ In reality, the V4 is outright the most viable unit of the three, because it can HIT AND RUN while the other two must channel their attacks and thus being super vulnerable. This isn't mentioned in the test.
I can't help but feel in the test against multiple buildings around the 9:00 mark, you should have had four V4s, simply due to the fact that they are that much less expensive than the other two. They still would have lost, but not AS badly.
Okay, here I go: Athena Cannon: + High DPS + Beam has guaranteed damage even with a mobile target + Versatility w/ their Shield + Can slightly fire while moving ~ Fastest - Long and 2-pieced, struggles with pathing sometimes - Can't fire over cliffs V4 Rocket Launcher: + Can fire while moving + Cheapest + Shrapnel gives area damage + Can fire across any obstacle ~ Small profile, can path well - Lowest DPS - Most Fragile - Can miss mobile targets like hell Wave-Force Artillery + Highest Damage per shot + Highest General Armour/Health + Wave-Force Beam penetrates ~ Moves like a tank, pathing wise ~ Can fire early for lower damage - Most Expensive - Movement disturbs firing Realistically, Wave-Force Artillery are the worst (by a small margin) , as the V4's Shrapnel missile and Athena's Aegis Shield offer better versatility. However, Wave-Force Artillery and Athenas are used more in place of the old Prism Tank role of fragile high hitting tank while V4s are used as literal support bombardment.

Thing about V4 is that it's a shoot and scoot vehicle as soon as missile is flying u can retreat or reposition just like the dreadnaught, also it is not hindered by lack of direct line of sight , also it's cluster artillery mode is made almost exclusively to counter Athena's shield mode, as the cluster does so damage, especially with splash damage. However if u want something dead at one shot go for the wave force artillery, while Athena with it's shield is a great support unit, but just like the v4, it's suited against fixed structures.
V4 is underperforming because... Friendly Fire Effects! Unguided Explosives in general have less damage to friendlies. (Dreadnoughts, V4s, Bullfrogs/Flak's Splash damage)

Yeah, you see, like some other commenter stated. V4 damage actually kinda halved because it was all friendly fire. So it somewhat kinda biased. But yeah.
I think russian units should be readjusted to become more competitive. In RA3 uprising, they haven't been given much. If not a buff, I think they should be given faster and cheaper production times so thay they would be like the Zergs in Starcraft. Or mass production upgrade should be provided earlier in the line. They even lack the ability to repair because most buildings dont have repair drones
I always found Uprising not having multiplayer to be kinda stupid, especially when you consider Kane's Wrath does, and their both expansions, hopefully if they go through all the C&C games, they'll put out a new version of RA3 with both the base game and the expansion, and give Uprising some multiplayer, though right now it's looking like only the C&C1 and RA1 are getting attention right now.

ı am sure you people aware that friendly-damage that is created by V4 is lower than other two. against enemy troops, V4 is as destructive as other two.
Hmmm I'd still prefer the Ra2 Prism tank for base demolition cuz it can make short work of entire bases in a few seconds or minutes depending on how many u have on hand, but for utility role especially stopping Suicide squadron attacks, athenas the pick.
I like how the developers said ti themeselves "let's balamce the game" And so they made Japan overpowered, allieds super versatile and russia... well i think they forgot about It (It's not Fair i mean, just look at giga fortress(game breaking spammable, deals lots of damage, has the greatest range in the game, can shift to whater mode and avoid anti air stuff) and i won't even start with the harbinger)
Grinders are close combat, can be slowed down by freezing it or disable its weapons by other units before it even gets to its destination. Apocalypse is a mixed bag. It is a lot weaker than the RA2 counterpart. It cannot even attack air units anymore.... In Uprising Allies got some sicko heavy units (Harbinger gunships...Nice you have a Kirov like armored flying mini superweapon flying around...than you have the Pacifier FAV....it is good against infantry and well...artillery mode is again..broken against bases and even against hordes of units...again where did they toss their brains when they added that thing?...I don't even mention the Schwarzenegger cryo guys...and the FUTURE TANK X-1?!) Japan gets the Giga fortress...it is like the epic units in Kane's wrath...need anything else to say? Archer maidens also not toying around....and those steel ronins are decent too... And what do the commies get? An old motorcycle which is a bootleg artillery, Reapers which if I remember right even does friendly fire with those grenade launchers and it always felt like a horrible "jack of all trades" aka. can attack anything and kinda worthless against anything as well. And yeah, grinder. Where are the heavy units? Ohh wait...there is NONE.... RA3 turned the Soviets into Westwood Nod which means their units are worthless and only good if you spam them...spam them against heavy units which kill them like flies....genius move I miss RA1+ RA2 Soviets...
Me too, especially in RA2 when they were more balanced, as each of the 2 factions had way to compete with the other in every field, but with a different style. Adding Japan the way they did ruined all the game's balance >

Fun fact, the Athena cannon can stop a tier 1 and tier 2 final squadron strike. 2-3 Athenas can stop the tier 3 Final squadron strike, and with enough apollos can also stop the balloon bomb strike by using the apollos or any AA unit to preemptively drop the bombs on the athena's shields cuz the bombs drop at a lower height than the ceiling of the athena's shields so it bypasses the shield itself.
I like the V4 more than Athena and wave force needs a clear line before locking to a Target, and these two sometimes struggle to fire clearly at a Target in a cliff
The only real pro the Athena Cannon has over the wave force artillery is its unique special ability and lesser cost. The wave force is superior in every other way and with the use of its special ability to fire faster it would have beaten the athena without it even firing.
If you play defensive strategy, position several V4s and switch to their cluster rocket and set it to force fire in the vicinity near your base. Your enemies will suffer.
Athena Cannons are still the best imo. Insane range and double duties as a mobile force field. Helps a lot in stand-offs when enemy has strong harrass.
Are you doing these with RA3 Uprising? Just because I think it's not that balanced due to the fact that it has no multiplayer. I think some results would be different.
I never noticed that the V-4 damage is half as much as that of her colleagues. Perhaps due to the fact that except for its intended purpose - to destroy dense clusters of defensive structures, I did not use them.
Well, the half-damage is because it'd be absolute hell if it did full damage on friendly fire. So its damage to friendlies is halved. Save for the cluster missile demonstration, every target in the video is a friendly, hence the ridiculously low damage it's showing.

It's probably a bit too late to fix this in your early videos, but I'd like to see a scaled cost analysis between units. The v4 is just 1200, while the wave cannon is 1800. For a group of 6 wave cannons, you get 9 v4's While the cannon is admittedly super stronk even in small numbers, I do wonder what a numbers advantage for having more v4's would look like.
Note that v4 does less damage vs units from your own team. If you could redo some of these engagement with, say, an enemy player with his units on hold fire, that'd be very nice. Otherwise a great video as always, thanks for making these!
Your style is similar to tg but I won't fault you for it. One, tg seems to mainly focus on RA2 and MO and, second, it feels more like an homage. Heck, I'm tempted to do these kinds of vids for Kane's Wrath.

One question : Why tou don't test F4 in "Cluster mode" with other artilery while testing? I thik if use "Cluster mode" in situations (what you show to us) it's been more effective. P.S: sorry for bad English . I'm Russian. I played in Red Alert 3 and F4 with cluster more Effective. So i just put this comment . So can you testing all artilery again , but F4 with "Cluster mode"???
WF artillery at a bit more than half charge will kill an athena before it can call a beam to hit. V4 shrapnel rockets are good against building and enemy groups. Athena is best played defensively.
since the Soviet n Japanese bombardment tank has AOE damage, you should test for critical mass also: like 2 V4 vs 2 Athena, or 3 V4 vs 3 Athena, .... or 2 Wave force vs 2 Athena, or 4 Wave force vs 4 Athena, .... Wave force can hit upto 4 enemies at once, and can even toggle fast firing mode. V4 in frag mode should be able to hit many enemies at once. My guess is that, in large scale fights, either frag V4 or quick fire Wave force always win.
Just a suggestion jb, maybe in the future if you remake any of the testing videos, test units with equal cost So for example the v4 costs 1200, whereas the wave force Artillery costs 1800, so in that case test 3 v4s against 2 wave force
This is an individual test. There's still strategy. V4's don't get used the exact same way as the others. Athenas and Wave-force get used in mechanised troops for slightly different reasons.
I forgot what the Athena cannon's special was, I do know hte V4 rocket can swap to a single missile or a scatter shot which is devastating against infantry, capable of knocking the toughest infantry unit onto their arse, so multiple V4, lordy

With 18000$ you can get 15 V4 in 2:25, 10 wave force in 1:50, and 12 Athena Cannon in 2:40.

Grinders are close combat, can be slowed down by freezing it or disable its weapons by other units before it even gets to its destination. Apocalypse is a mixed bag. It is a lot weaker than the RA2 counterpart. It cannot even attack air units anymore....
In Uprising Allies got some sicko heavy units (Harbinger gunships...Nice you have a Kirov like armored flying mini superweapon flying around...than you have the Pacifier FAV....it is good against infantry and well...artillery mode is again..broken against bases and even against hordes of units...again where did they toss their brains when they added that thing?...I don't even mention the Schwarzenegger cryo guys...and the FUTURE TANK X-1?!)

An old motorcycle which is a bootleg artillery, Reapers which if I remember right even does friendly fire with those grenade launchers and it always felt like a horrible "jack of all trades" aka. can attack anything and kinda worthless against anything as well. And yeah, grinder. Where are the heavy units? Ohh wait...there is NONE....
RA3 turned the Soviets into Westwood Nod which means their units are worthless and only good if you spam them...spam them against heavy units which kill them like flies....genius move I miss RA1+ RA2 Soviets...
Me too, especially in RA2 when they were more balanced, as each of the 2 factions had way to compete with the other in every field, but with a different style. Adding Japan the way they did ruined all the game's balance >

And yeah giga fortress... i played against ai lots of times, so... i very often lose beacause ai spams that unit, It has that ray that oneshots units and can start from a veeery long distance over anti air bases defenses range, i mean wtf i usualy need more than two squads of aa jets but even with them i Need to restock ammo only to kill One of them, and ai builds even 5 at the time

Fun fact, the Athena cannon can stop a tier 1 and tier 2 final squadron strike. 2-3 Athenas can stop the tier 3 Final squadron strike, and with enough apollos can also stop the balloon bomb strike by using the apollos or any AA unit to preemptively drop the bombs on the athena's shields cuz the bombs drop at a lower height than the ceiling of the athena's shields so it bypasses the shield itself.

I like the V4 more than Athena and wave force needs a clear line before locking to a Target, and these two sometimes struggle to fire clearly at a Target in a cliff
Man the Soviets are my favourite faction but some units truly suck compared to their counter parts.

It has always been the other way round. MO3 comes out after RA3, and MO3 athena cannon are just nigh unusable compared to their counter part in RA3

The only real pro the Athena Cannon has over the wave force artillery is its unique special ability and lesser cost. The wave force is superior in every other way and with the use of its special ability to fire faster it would have beaten the athena without it even firing.
Just mass Wave Force, reverse move them, and see how they destroy anything on the ground which dares to come near.

If you play defensive strategy, position several V4s and switch to their cluster rocket and set it to force fire in the vicinity near your base. Your enemies will suffer.

Athena Cannons are still the best imo. Insane range and double duties as a mobile force field. Helps a lot in stand-offs when enemy has strong harrass.

Are you doing these with RA3 Uprising? Just because I think it's not that balanced due to the fact that it has no multiplayer. I think some results would be different.
You Should do cost efficient tests I mean 1.2k and 1.8k big difference in cost
I never noticed that the V-4 damage is half as much as that of her colleagues. Perhaps due to the fact that except for its intended purpose - to destroy dense clusters of defensive structures, I did not use them.
Well, the half-damage is because it'd be absolute hell if it did full damage on friendly fire. So its damage to friendlies is halved. Save for the cluster missile demonstration, every target in the video is a friendly, hence the ridiculously low damage it's showing.

It's probably a bit too late to fix this in your early videos, but I'd like to see a scaled cost analysis between units. The v4 is just 1200, while the wave cannon is 1800. For a group of 6 wave cannons, you get 9 v4's While the cannon is admittedly super stronk even in small numbers, I do wonder what a numbers advantage for having more v4's would look like.
Also v4's damage type is classified as "high explosive". High explosive get a damage reduction in a friendly fire situation.
Note that v4 does less damage vs units from your own team. If you could redo some of these engagement with, say, an enemy player with his units on hold fire, that'd be very nice. Otherwise a great video as always, thanks for making these!

You didn't demonstrate the Wave Force Cannon's premature discharge ability, it could have destroyed the Athena before it got destroyed.
Not sure if that changed, but with wave artillery you could kill terror drones inside your infected units.
Your style is similar to tg but I won't fault you for it. One, tg seems to mainly focus on RA2 and MO and, second, it feels more like an homage.

One question : Why tou don't test F4 in "Cluster mode" with other artilery while testing? I thik if use "Cluster mode" in situations (what you show to us) it's been more effective.

WF artillery at a bit more than half charge will kill an athena before it can call a beam to hit. V4 shrapnel rockets are good against building and enemy groups. Athena is best played defensively.

since the Soviet n Japanese bombardment tank has AOE damage, you should test for critical mass also:
like 2 V4 vs 2 Athena, or 3 V4 vs 3 Athena, ....
or 2 Wave force vs 2 Athena, or 4 Wave force vs 4 Athena, ....
Wave force can hit upto 4 enemies at once, and can even toggle fast firing mode. V4 in frag mode should be able to hit many enemies at once.
My guess is that, in large scale fights, either frag V4 or quick fire Wave force always win.

Considering the 3 unit's costs and performance, the V4 ought to be a lot less, probably worth 750.
It's only doing half the normal damage to friendlies to offset its massive travel time, hence its poor performance here.

Just a suggestion jb, maybe in the future if you remake any of the testing videos, test units with equal cost

This is an individual test. There's still strategy. V4's don't get used the exact same way as the others. Athenas and Wave-force get used in mechanised troops for slightly different reasons.

I forgot what the Athena cannon's special was, I do know hte V4 rocket can swap to a single missile or a scatter shot which is devastating against infantry, capable of knocking the toughest infantry unit onto their arse, so multiple V4, lordy
