  • Converted my 94 LT1 T56 to LS style by swapping the input shaft, front plate/mid plate, and bell housing to LS1 parts.
    Lots of people do this swap to use the earlier, cheaper 93-97 trans behind a truck LR4/LM7/LQ4, etc. I'm using it behind a 4.8 for my Beretta RWD swap.
    I had two trans to convert so I could run a Tick-built LT trans in my Camaro and the stocker in my Beretta. But here are the parts to swap LT style to LS:
    input shaft: amzn.to/3tjTbhk
    new front plate: amzn.to/3NYPJjW
    modded front plate: www.ebay.com/i...
    bellhousing: amzn.to/3Q2WiUw
    clutch slave: amzn.to/3MtM8JA
    or an (expenisve) kit with everything: www.ebay.com/i...

    Wow, you have a Beretta with an LS1.

    Two questions:
    1)Do you have a video for converting LS1 to LT1 T56? You mentioned in your video that you would do that. I want to convert a LS1 to a modified LT1 because I want to use the clutch fork instead of the center clutch hydraulic.
    2) Why is the LS1 input shaft much longer than the input shaft of a LT1?
    Thanks

    • @GEARHEADdezign
      @GEARHEADdezign  Před 4 měsíci

      I don't have a video of that, cause it's the exact same process with the parts reversed.
      LS input shaft is longer because the bell housing is longer and the pilot bushing is deeper inside the crankshaft

    • @GEARHEADdezign
      @GEARHEADdezign  Před 4 měsíci

      BTW, I think the center hydraulic slave is better than the fork setup. You can also run a mechanical fork with an early BBC bell housing and an adapter

    thank you for sharing. What is the difference with the bellhousing beside the slave bolts and maybe the holes for the lines for the concentric slave? Can I get away with using a stock bellhousing ? Is there any difference with the width?

    • @GEARHEADdezign
      @GEARHEADdezign  Před 7 měsíci

      I think the slaves are the only difference. There's a place on eBay that converts lt1 front plates to ls1 style.

      I pondered converting it myself, but ran into a deal on ls1 style so I took the easy route🤣

    • @GEARHEADdezign
      @GEARHEADdezign  Před 4 měsíci

      Hmm. You could probably put an LS1 front plate and bellhousing and keep LT1 input shaft to work. The LT bell is too small for the LS flywheel. I have another video where I tried that out

    I lost 3rd gear in my 99' camaro's t-56 so i wanna swap in a t-56 outta 05' gto I got off c/l. Is it a direct swap? They do look the same other than they are diff gearing, and do you recommend any way of looking over if its good without ripping it apart?

    • @GEARHEADdezign

      Yes, direct swap other than the shifter. But that's just a cup change or something, you can Google it

    1) is the LT1 tran body more skinny than the LS1 tran body?; 2) is the LT1 front plate more skinny than the LS1 tran body? I need a narrow T-56 to fit inside a narrow tran tunnel of a Jaguar sedan with a V8? Thanks

    • @GEARHEADdezign
      @GEARHEADdezign  Před rokem

      No, same size. The LS/LT style is a little bit smaller than the new aftermarket T56 Magnum. But you'll still need to open up the tunnel probably. I did with my 2nd gen Camaro

      406 SBC? If so, you can use a regular BBC bell housing and clutch, with an adapter plate on the LS to the 4 bolt old bell housing pattern

      Unfortunately I don't have the old one the previous owner swapped to a built th350 from the original 4spd and my t56 has no bellhousing so I'll have to get a stock one. Do you know where I can find a full kit that's not 1million bucks
