At least in my country.... Scotland the water from the lochs and mountains are pure and fresh so you can drink it at the source just like when it's bottled. No need for treatment plants to make it safe....our water is already safe.

If the earth can create and produce water naturally I am sure it can be done unnaturally with science I believe I heard of a water bottle that pulls it from the air and filters it out in the process allegedly just I have read mixed things about it.

Very many people died from cholera, tuberculosis, viruses, bacteria and many other causes. Boiling water helped avoid many of them, but it still wasn't enough to ensure the water is completely safe. If you mean to suggest that we don't need to treat water before drinking it, you go first; go ahead and drink it raw.
