  • A quick video pointing out some of the subtle but important differences between the Plymouth Trail Duster and the Dodge Ramcharger. Ramcharger‘s were produced in much greater numbers and for a much longer production run. Trail dusters were only produced from 1974 until 1981 and less than 40,000 total vehicles were made. This video points out the emblems and differences that make the Plymouth subtly different than the Ramcharger

1st car/truck was a 79 quad headlight prospector. Miss it very much.

Great Trailduster, looks brand new. I like the other Mopars that you own as well

I've always wondered what the differences were, thanks for making this! Are there any interior changes?

I owned a 1978 Plymouth TrailDuster as a young man!! It was gold rust color with the the four x four on the side and 4x4 on the tailgate just like this one. Flippen loved that truck!! You forgot to mention the most important thing that the TrailDuster had that the Ramcharger didn't!!! It was a convertible baby !! The top came completely off. Took Me and a buddy about 5mins to drop the top !! Absolutely the best feature of a TrailDuster!!!

I didn’t know the Plymouth Trail Duster existed until a few months ago. It seems to me that there weren’t many differences between this and the Dodge Ramcharger, other than different branding and some trim options as well. Maybe I’m wrong but I would like to think that the Trail Duster had a slightly more upscale and fancier interior than the Ramcharger. Sort of like the way the old school GMC Jimmy was compared to the Chevy Blazer.

That’s quite a stash of grilles! Don’t forget the small TrailDuster emblem on the right side of the dash.

Doug, not 100% but I think only sport models got the dash badge....it is a differentiator for sure...I'll have to research whether there is a "standard" TD dash badge. The only one I've ever seen is the Sport designation....now I am curious....
