UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE! Thanks to a lovely commenter I've realized if you edit in DaVinci you CAN disable lens corrections if you shot your footage in RAW. I shot RAW for all my tests but I also edited in Premiere Pro where that option is not currently available. For DaVinci users, go to the raw controls and change the Decode Quality from "Canon" to "Resolve." Then the lens corrections disappear! I talked to both Canon and Adobe on the phone today and they each pointed the finger at the other. Premiere DOES have Decode settings available for other camera brands like Black Magic with BRAW files because BlackMagic created a plug-in for Premiere Pro with extra functionality, which includes many more options than just color temp and exposure. Adobe said it's Canon's call if they want to offer that support with a plug-in. Canon said it's Adobe's responsibility to interpret the metadata... in other words, it doesn't look like either is working on a solution at the moment. And no matter what NLE you use, you still can't monitor the image in the C70 without distortion correction applied.
My favorite C70 content creator. 👏🏻
Presenting facts is not negative…it’s informative. Than you.
Great video. Very thorough. I learned a lot from your C70 course and highly recommend it.
Never thought of FOV that way. Great video
Hello. Hope all is well with you and yours. I just wanted to say thank you for your C70 tutorial. I bought it a couple weeks ago and it has been extremely helpful.
wow thanks for doing the test and figuring it out. about to order this lens with the soon release C400. and this is good to know the lens limitation. thank you! extremely helpful
Annnnd another interesting video :)
Subbed.
I hope to add this lens to our kit soon. We run and gun with a C70 and it ticks so many boxes. Gotta have it.
The C70 has been a game changer for me. This 24-105 f2.8 may be my next add
Great video as usual. Appreciate the update as I’ve been considering this lens if I can save up for it, lol. If youre even in NH and need a second shooter or assistant, let me know. I’m a C70 and R5c user myself.
let's geek out!
From my tests --- If you shoot CRM with C70+24-105 f/2.8 you will not get lens corrections in Davinci Resolve when decode quality is set to "Full res - Resolve". The lens corrections WILL apply if decode quality is set to "Full res - Canon".
But not he best implementation. For instance with nraw from Nikon Z8/Z9 there is a checbox in raw decoder wether you want the lens corrections or not.
I just tested it myself and you're right! Thank you times a million!
A simpler explanation of entrance pupil difference is rather simple: focus breathing, or the lack thereof in 24-105L f2.8 In fact, all lenses mark their focal length by their FOV at infinity. You used a reference photo focused on a nearby subject. The focus breathing of other lenses made them look wider, not other way around. If all lenses focused at infinity, the subject plane aka CMOS plane should stay the same.
Love it
Interesting, I’ve always set my camera on the tripod to center the image sensor. But your findings are telling me thats wrong!
As a RED komodo x owner very interested (obsessed) with this lens. Ive heard good things from other owners, but looks like it would be best suited to a super 35 fov where a lot of the distortion is much more controlled.
BUT since I cant actually buy this lens yet as its backordered into oblivion. I actually just made a very similar discovery on their cheapo 24-240 lens. Similar engineering decisions were made on that lens. But on my S35 sensor, it looks good and Im having a blast with the focal range.
Ill make a little video about that one on my KX because I feel like its being slept on.
Anyway, thanks for the info. Youre great!
I think I mentioned the correction in the comments in your other video.
U have a video how u fit it on a gimbal
Hello! Great video! Can you please measure diameters for geared rings on both - focus and zoom rings?:) Acording to tech specs - the widest diameter on the lens is 86mm, but the zoom ring is clearly smaller
What would you say is the real world focal length on the wide end then? 28mm? 30mm?
Would you recomend this lens to my upcoming Canon C400? I was thinking going with the Sigma 24-70 Art but this gives more range and quality. What do you think?
My theory is that Marcel is so cute the lens just wanted to get tighter on its adorable subject
This is the godfather II of gear review videos. Thanks for all your diligent work. I don’t shoot cannon but Now I understand how to figure out entrance pupil 🫡
In case you didn't catch last week's news: Nikon bought RED outright, so I wouldn't expect another RF-mount RED camera.
I wonder if RED is going to release some of their old cameras with Nikon mount now
thank you ! next time, can you compare it with 24-105/f4?
Which F4 are you more interested in the EF or RF? I don't own either but the EF seems like a better buy because you can speedboost it...
@@SoundItOutFilms Of course, RF 24-105/f4, I also have an EF24-105/f4 with speedbooster, but it has a critical miserable lens issue, when I zoom the lens
Interesting
Can you bypass correction by shooting raw video in R5C?
You can not disable on the c70 in raw, I only had limited time with the R5C so I feel like I can’t speak definitively on it but I believe the recording mode also made no difference to the lens corrections being greyed out on that camera as well.
RED will most likely end up with a Z mount in the coming years, due to their purchase by Nikon. But of course they have a good number of RF models in production right now.
They literally just released their new flagship cameras with RF mount. Although its likely they will release a ZMount option. I do not see them abandoning the RF mount anytime in the next 5 years. Bold claim I know 😅
But for real, Jarred has been gushing about the RF mount and how awesome Canon has been doing, I think he’s been trolling Nikon lol
@@TotalRADandMORE I agree they will continue to support the RF mount on their currently released cameras. I would be surprised though if they release another camera with an RF mount. Nikon is not in the business of selling RF lenses, and they will sell more Z mount lenses by making the switch to Z mount on future cameras.
Did you shoot raw st\lt with the c70? Raw video shouldn't have lens correction in the file...
Yes sir
Did you increase the price of C70 course as soon as I was about to afford it? 😭
Nope, price is still $75!
Noice.
has your osee t7 melted yet?
Haha, nope!
I leave canon land and then they drop this monster 🙂↕️
00:52 minumum to infidely hehe
The Ramaswamy shot lmao
I don’t love the guy… but the camera loves him.
Are you a Biden supporter? lol
Where is the C70 course everyone isbtalkin about
