    One of the most useful things it can do is when you pitch one octave higher, it makes bass much easier to hear, especially in some dense or weird mixes.

    I bought this based on your recommendation 2 months ago, and I can say that I really do love it. There are mobile apps out there that do some of the functionality, but this program is best IMO. My son uses it for piano, and I for bass. Thanks for turning me onto it! I recommend people learn the shortcut keys, which can be found and printed if desired from the help menu. Just makes practice so much more efficient.

    Use this myself with studio monitor headphones, and in much the same ways 😊 DAW I have yet to figure out, and don't forget those measure/beat/subdivision markers! They help to visually tie in those crazy funky super syncopated rhythms to what you are hearing.... especially if you are just starting (like me) and want to accurately write out what you're transcribing.

I'm trying to learn This is Amazing Grace by Phil Wickham and my ear tells me one thing, watching the performance video shows me something else and a YT video lesson shows something completely different. Any thoughts on how to use Transcribe! to help me? TYIA! PS started another bass course on a trial sub from another provider, will not pursue, just can't deal with sub-par teaching.

    To people trying out transcription for the first time, "transcribe" will not be as easy as it comes off here. Bass is definitely easier than guitar or drums to identify, but even that can be difficult. The issue is lack of clear audio. When people play real instruments, not midi or synth, there are a lot of extra noises and imperfections throughout that make the sound muddy. When you slow it down, because you can't isolate a single instrument from the track, it becomes an extremely distorted and sludgy, digital mess. Beginners beware, using these softwares will work, but only with a lot of work put in. It is not a quick and easy solution by any means.

  •  Před 9 lety +1

    • @joshfossgreen
      @joshfossgreen  Před 6 lety +1

      Not really, it's more of an assistive technology than a spoonfeeding technology. It will do spectrum analysis and stuff but I can't imagine using that to auto-transcribe anything.

    I'm following your suggestion to try and hear more bass on Living Color "Love Rears Its Ugly Head". When I'm in the FX panel and click "bass select", there's almost not sound, and when I turn it up all the way, there is this very faint distorted noise. Ugh.

    • @joshfossgreen
      @joshfossgreen  Před 8 lety

      Hmm, never had that happen before. Make sure you have the Mono/Karaoke tab disabled, maybe you're losing a channel of audio or something? Does it sound okay when the EQ is disabled? You can also customize the bass select effect once you select it just by dragging the frequency sliders, try bringing 320Hz up for starters. Different bass players occupy different little frequency pockets, so I always tweak the EQ from song to song.

    Josh, i'm about to buy this product. Have you used the tuning function? If i want to adjust the tuning to 1/2 step down in transcribe, is it -1 octave? Thanks for the help

    • @joshfossgreen
      @joshfossgreen  Před 8 lety

      +Joseph Navarre Yeah I use it a lot. You can change pitch and tempo independently, and you can change pitch by octaves, steps and/or cents independently. So for example, you could change a songs key from C to B with one slider, or if a song was slightly out of tune you could adjust the cents slider to get it in tune with your instrument. Also, you can use Transcribe for free for 30 days if you want to check it out yourself!

    • @joshfossgreen
      @joshfossgreen  Před 6 lety +1

      Nope. Transcribe doesn't do that much work for you, it mostly just lets you modify audio files. I don't know of anything that can accurately "auto-transcribe." Plus, you'd be missing out on the ear training, which to me is 99% of the point.

    Hey can u use that program on a tablet or do they have one for that.

    • @joshfossgreen
      @joshfossgreen  Před 9 lety

      melvin hunt Nope, here's the answer from the FAQ on the Transcribe! website: "Is there going to be a version of Transcribe! for smartphones and tablets?"I don't think so. The reason is simply that I don't have the time. I
      certainly expect to continue improving and updating Transcribe! for
      Windows, Mac and Linux desktop and laptop computers, and that takes up
      enough time as it is. Of course one solution to this would be to
      employ people to do the work, but that doesn't appeal to me as I have
      no desire to become a manager, and I greatly prefer the laid-back
      hands-on approach which I currently have. There's also the fact that
      there are already quite a few slow-down- and-loop applications
      available for iPad/iPhone/Android, most of them at very low prices. I
      intend to check them out properly at some point, as I might have a use
      for such a thing myself! Yet another point is this: Transcribe! is
      quite full featured, and this is what distinguishes it from other
      applications in the same general area. But if I did a version for
      smartphones and tablets, it would be necessary to lose quite a lot of
      features. This would result in a product that wouldn't be very much
      different from other products already out there - so what would be the
      point of that?"

      Works for any audio file, it's not an instrument specific program. The only difference I can imagine for drums is that it's harder to EQ out other instruments since the drumkit inhabits a wide range of the frequency spectrum (i.e. kick is down low, hihats are super high).

That is what the analogue lock does, it makes the pitch go up and down with the speed. Untick the 'analogue lock' and the pitch doesn't change with the speed.
