I am middle aged and it t is only recently through CZcams that I have discovered different techniques such as putting a highlighter near the tear duct and putting eyeshadow on the lower lash line to balance. I can't do things like baking because it emphasises my wrinkles but I'm gradually learning how to wear highlighters in a subtle way. This channel has been helpful and fun.

Hi Mel! I remember noticing that you were gradually lightening up on make up because I started wearing make up by watching you - and I am an older lady. I remember thinking that you were really good at it - no matter how much you used, but it always looked like too much on me. When you lightened up on your eyebrows, and stopped using the false lashes (which still look stunning) I remember thinking how lovely you looked without having to do all that. I think you have gone through a lot of evolution for us, to try lots of products and to experiment with different products and methods. Without your prompting, I would not have, I don't think. So no matter what you did - it was worth it for me. I learned a lot, and I believe you did too. I would not delete any of your videos (unless you have to for some reason). They show how you learned the look that you like and how good product and good methods, create a look without over doing anything. You taught us to bring out our best "us". Love you for that! When I was mega into makeup and obsessed with MAC, I used to wear sooooo much blush! And layered the cheek products to the hilt. Thought I was killing it! My first highlighter was MAC Shimpagne - that thing was a glitter bomb. And yes I still have it.... shhhh. My crusty old 187 went in the bin only recently and I would use it the exact same way. After already using it with highlighter. Sadly this was before the days of brows and was proud of my perfect plucked brows. Save me! Oh but all the bashing aside, MAC Woodwinked is still my fave eyeshadow of all time. Yaaaassss!
I used to use all Mac as well!!! It was all my holy grail a lot of the products you used I used to have I’ve moved away from Mac quite a bit, only buy there holiday or limited edition sometimes! Great video I think it turned out looking pretty good😊

Loved this video!!! Ahhhhh, our makeup mistakes lol. I used to mix equal parts of my liquid chanel tan de soléil and my foundation and looked like an orange peel! Then I had a favorite yellow gold eye shadow from Lancôme that I would partner with a taupey gray in the crease, using the sponge applicators that came with them.... not blended at all! 😮 and this was in the 90’s so all that mess was paired with brown lips always!
It's awesome to have seen your look evolve! I admit I got a little sad hearing you deleted a few oldies because I think they're great reminders that everybody starts somewhere, and you don't have to know everything to start playing with makeup. Even your old ones taught me tons. ❤️

One of my favorite Bond girls is Famke Janssen in Goldeneye. I LOVED that she wore a bold eye and a bold lip, just like this (although eye was even darker). I’d rock that every day if it wouldn’t scare people in my office.

Funny thing.. I was preparing to do this exact video - how I did my makeup in high school - and, when I pulled out my senior pictures, I sat, staring at them. And Ky first thought? The saying is so true; trends may come and go, but they always come back. Why? Because I did my makeup in high school EXACTLY like what is in trend currently! LOL! But, I think I might record the video just for fun...and to prove to people that trends and fads always come back around. As I tell my kids, hang on to that, and in 20 years, it will be back in style again! LOL! Of course, I graduated in 1987, so I've been able to see them come and go. Now, I'm just waiting for James Jeans bell-bottoms to come back! Then, I'll be rockin'! The only problem is that I cannot find many of the products that I used back then. I don't even think Max Factor is for sale in the US anymore. And, heck, even the MAC products I used to use are no longer sold! And I started using MAC the year after they started! Yes, I'm THAT old! You look gorgeous without any makeup! It's funny to look back at how we used do our makeup. Yes! I used to be hooked on MAC PLW concealer! And I dropped the glass bottle more than once- I'm clumsy 😂 I used to highlight the hell out of my under eyes and I went so ham with bronzer. And I used to wear so much more makeup- I think I don't use as much now since I started really focusing on skincare. I think my skincare takes just as long as my makeup these days! It must have taken a hot minute to apply foundation with the 130- I use that brush to stipple cream blush/ bronzers on. A round of applause for doing all of this with your left hand 👏🏼👏🏼 Hope you are recovering well doll- you know I need to get my holiday shop on with you 😘

Love the video. It brought back memories of when I first did my makeup and used so much neon eyeshadow. I cringe just thinking about it now. I'm totally amazed it only took you a couple of hours to do that makeup with your left hand. If I had to do my makeup with my right hand (I'm left handed) it would take me far longer and look sooooo much worse.

Yeah. So I'm 40 and when I first started doing my makeup it was in the early 90s. I don't think I need to say what trends were around back then, suffice to say my brows will never be the same😂😂😂
you are just great! i love this look!! back in the day i was a minimalist....no shadow EVER just black winged liner, tons of mascara no blush just some glittery bronzer in the tiniest amount possible and cherry red lips...never EVER did my brows...i had great natural brows with the perfect arch i was seriously blessed and just recently plucked them for the first time and ruined them forever. if you look at my profile pic, its almost the same but now i have embraced blush, bronzer and highlighter and love a natural lip but this video has me wanting to pull out that cherry red lip and a black wing...i think that’s exactly what i’m gonna do!! thanks for bringing me back in time girl!!

Awe, it's your channel and you can obviously do whatever makes you happy but I think you should leave the older videos up! It's honestly inspiring to see those. It's nice to be able to look at someone change and improve and know that you don't have to be a pro, but if you practice you will get there. It's nice to go back and see how lovely your first videos are. Your videos now are so lovely too, please don't take that the wrong way, your literally my favorite blogger, but I like seeing the journey people take to get where they are at. The brows look great. It’s a look, definitely different to what you do now but it doesn’t look bad at all. It just depends what you’re going for I guess.
It would be cool to see the same products in this video but applied with the new tools (beauty blender and brushes) you use now. It would demonstrate how much faster you can do your makeup with improved results. It could inspire people that they can update/speed up their makeup just by using updated techniques. Since some of these are discontinued maybe you could suggest something similar. I feel heavy handed and want so badly to learn how to lighten up to more of a natural look while still looking polished like you. I’ve seen a million tips and tutorials, but it’s going to take a mind shift to embrace the change and make work for me. I think our eyes need to be trained that natural doesn’t mean washed out. If you could share how you trained your eye to get used to less would help me. My favorite eyeshadow in high school was a trio (my first luxury) don’t remember the brand, of bright rich purple and blue and plummy blush. Covergirl made a loose powder in pink for an all over brightening effect and I absolutely loved the brightening effect. Was bummed when they discontinued it.

Maybelline Blooming Colors...up to 8 different shades applied with the little applicators in diagonal lines from corner to corner and a ton of great lash mascara in blue. A smear of the purple Yardleys Pot o Gloss, ( I can smell it right now!), and makeup was complete, and I looked amazing😉 A couple of strong hits of Loves Baby Soft, or Fresh Lemon perfumes and girlfriend was out the door ready to take on 9th grade!

I’m looking at your old videos and you are so cute 😍we have all been there .. I remember in the early 90s I would have such heavy eye makeup and a very heavy crease and I would use the same colors day in day out .. layers of mascara for doll like lashes and bright lipstick .. when I look back oh my I had so much flashback on my pics because I just had to have bright undereyes and face lol aww but I was so happy and had so many compliments .. you continue to be so stylish and beautiful however you choose to do your makeup 😍

Yep MAC prolong wear for sure. I remember seeing your older videos and you used the care blend and using these techniques,. But Mel u taught me how to blend my bronzer and blush with that 187 brush, I do that everyday and it works well for me! This was so fun. We all did this tho you were right with the times.Oh how we mature and grow and find better products. Also companies coming out with innovative tools and make up. Thank God right!?

Gurl this came out bomb beautiful you should never doubt yourself your awesome! ok I use to use Bobbie brown foundation and a flat foundation brush and a little bit of bare minerals powder girl by the end of the day it was all in my face crevices. I would look in the car rear view mirror on my way home from work and be like ughg u looked like that all day and no one says a word. Oh and I just wore a little bronzer in the center of my face that’s how the B.B. counter taught me 10 plus years ago. Sometimes just a bit too much again I’d look in the car mirror and be like ughg oompah loompah but not even my bf would say a word. The only way I tried to improve it was to make sure I applied a lot of moisturizer the next day. Lol ridiculous now that I look back at it which is kinda sad because those were my good makeup face years I was young ya know. Now I’m so good at the application and it comes out great but the canvas is old and tired lol. Wtf I’m doing it backwards! thnks Mel this was great! ❤️😘🙌🏼

Used Soft n Gentle yesterday and noticed it wasn't quite as bright as my current highlighters which is fine. 👍🏼 Love this! I used to put a silver/purple eye shadow on my lids, mascara, blush, a sheer berry lip or a pink/rose shimmer and spot conceal any breakouts and out the door. 😂😂😂

Aaaand, I'm not gonna lie, this is sort of how I like to do my eyes. I just really like a LOT of depth, and i like to transition down from really light to really dark, because I feel like it makes for a nicer, more blended look, mostly because it forces me to blend more, but I just like it. Sometimes I go a little more simple, but mostly I like the drama. I'm glad you've grown from doing your face this way though. Again, still love ya!

Love the video. It brought back memories of when I first did my makeup and used so much neon eyeshadow. I cringe just thinking about it now. I'm totally amazed it only took you a couple of hours to do that makeup with your left hand. If I had to do my makeup with my right hand (I'm left handed) it would take me far longer and look sooooo much worse.

Yeah. So I'm 40 and when I first started doing my makeup it was in the early 90s. I don't think I need to say what trends were around back then, suffice to say my brows will never be the same😂😂😂
you are just great! i love this look!! back in the day i was a minimalist....no shadow EVER just black winged liner, tons of mascara no blush just some glittery bronzer in the tiniest amount possible and cherry red lips...never EVER did my brows...i had great natural brows with the perfect arch i was seriously blessed and just recently plucked them for the first time and ruined them forever. if you look at my profile pic, its almost the same but now i have embraced blush, bronzer and highlighter and love a natural lip but this video has me wanting to pull out that cherry red lip and a black wing...i think that’s exactly what i’m gonna do!! thanks for bringing me back in time girl!!

Awe, it's your channel and you can obviously do whatever makes you happy but I think you should leave the older videos up! It's honestly inspiring to see those. It's nice to be able to look at someone change and improve and know that you don't have to be a pro, but if you practice you will get there. It's nice to go back and see how lovely your first videos are. The brows look great. It’s a look, definitely different to what you do now but it doesn’t look bad at all. It just depends what you’re going for I guess.
It would be cool to see the same products in this video but applied with the new tools (beauty blender and brushes) you use now. It would demonstrate how much faster you can do your makeup with improved results. It could inspire people that they can update/speed up their makeup just by using updated techniques. Since some of these are discontinued maybe you could suggest something similar. I feel heavy handed and want so badly to learn how to lighten up to more of a natural look while still looking polished like you. I’ve seen a million tips and tutorials, but it’s going to take a mind shift to embrace the change and make work for me. I think our eyes need to be trained that natural doesn’t mean washed out. If you could share how you trained your eye to get used to less would help me. My favorite eyeshadow in high school was a trio (my first luxury) don’t remember the brand, of bright rich purple and blue and plummy blush. Covergirl made a loose powder in pink for an all over brightening effect and I absolutely loved the brightening effect. Was bummed when they discontinued it.

Maybelline Blooming Colors...up to 8 different shades applied with the little applicators in diagonal lines from corner to corner and a ton of great lash mascara in blue. A smear of the purple Yardleys Pot o Gloss, ( I can smell it right now!), and makeup was complete, and I looked amazing😉
A couple of strong hits of Loves Baby Soft, or Fresh Lemon perfumes and girlfriend was out the door ready to take on 9th grade!

I’m looking at your old videos and you are so cute 😍we have all been there .. I remember in the early 90s I would have such heavy eye makeup and a very heavy crease and I would use the same colors day in day out .. layers of mascara for doll like lashes and bright lipstick .. when I look back oh my I had so much flashback on my pics because I just had to have bright undereyes and face lol aww but I was so happy and had so many compliments .. you continue to be so stylish and beautiful however you choose to do your makeup 😍

Yep MAC prolong wear for sure. I remember seeing your older videos and you used the care blend and using these techniques,. But Mel u taught me how to blend my bronzer and blush with that 187 brush, I do that everyday and it works well for me! This was so fun. We all did this tho you were right with the times.Oh how we mature and grow and find better products. Also companies coming out with innovative tools and make up. Thank God right!?

Gurl this came out bomb beautiful you should never doubt yourself your awesome! ok I use to use Bobbie brown foundation and a flat foundation brush and a little bit of bare minerals powder girl by the end of the day it was all in my face crevices. I would look in the car rear view mirror on my way home from work and be like ughg u looked like that all day and no one says a word. Oh and I just wore a little bronzer in the center of my face that’s how the B.B. counter taught me 10 plus years ago. Sometimes just a bit too much again I’d look in the car mirror and be like ughg oompah loompah but not even my bf would say a word. The only way I tried to improve it was to make sure I applied a lot of moisturizer the next day. Lol ridiculous now that I look back at it which is kinda sad because those were my good makeup face years I was young ya know. Now I’m so good at the application and it comes out great but the canvas is old and tired lol. Wtf I’m doing it backwards! thnks Mel this was great! ❤️😘🙌🏼

Mel, this means we can all be saved from these makeup ummmm overages (?). 😂😂😂 NW20 not sure when I last used it. Used Soft n Gentle yesterday and noticed it wasn't quite as bright as my current highlighters which is fine. 👍🏼 Love this! I used to put a silver/purple eye shadow on my lids, mascara, blush, a sheer berry lip or a pink/rose shimmer and spot conceal any breakouts and out the door. 😂😂😂
today I enjoyed that tutorial and I remember using Browns and blacks to bring the my eyes out and notice just my eyes and using eyeliner and just I used to brighten up my my eyes on the bottom and use the liner and make the cat look I have a lot of memories just like you I just want to thank you for it if it was you look on fleek

Aaaand, I'm not gonna lie, this is sort of how I like to do my eyes. I just really like a LOT of depth, and i like to transition down from really light to really dark, because I feel like it makes for a nicer, more blended look, mostly because it forces me to blend more, but I just like it. Sometimes I go a little more simple, but mostly I like the drama. I'm glad you've grown from doing your face this way though. Again, still love ya!
