I laugh when people still argue about first death metal bands etc. Remember : There is a song on Possessed : Seven Churches album called : Death Metal.
So what? Venom has a song called Black Metal and neither of those bands are actually death or black metal. Pleasure To Kill has more death metal elements than Possessed.
Hell yeah, great to see Jeff Becerra interview. Bought seven churches when it was released, I just thought it was a continuation of Venom, Slayer at the time. But yeah it is the first death metal album for sure.
No its not the first. They simply coined the term, just like Venom. Morbid Angel and Sepultura released stuff at the time which were far more DM than anything Possessed did.

Great interview. Possessed invented Death Metal, even though 1983 Metal Massacre 3 track Tyrant - Battle of Armageddon could be considered Proto Death Metal. LA Tyrant definitely sounded less Death Metal by the time their 1985 album Legion of the Dead was released. It featured a new version of Battle of Armageddon which sounded a lot more like Judas Priest than the Proto Death Doom of the demo

Really? I know he was influenced by Possessed early on but Mameli has stated in interviews that he doesn't listen to metal anymore Which is weird considering that he also said in the same interview that he loves death metal which obviously isn't the case if he doesn't even enjoy listening to it.

Alot of early death metal albums were basically death thrash. Most if not all of them had alot of elements of thrash, especially in terms of song composition. Just listen to the first albums by many of the early bands and it'll be fairly obvious. Considering that, even in a genre confining way, possessed definitely counts, it's just that it maybe stuck with that sound longer than the others. Awesome interview, alot to learn from this. \m/

I love how humble of a person Jeff is. He's really cool. He doesn't have a ego and thinks he's above everyone else, just because he was among the first Death Metal artists. To create the genre. Corpsegrinder is awesome too towards fans. Same goes for Alex and Paul from Cannibal. I got to hangout with them for like and hour and shoot the shit with them, before a show in 2019.
