    Most CarGenerator owners use it for 2 or 3 hours during the day to simply and quickly recharge their RV batteries, no need to run your vehicle overnight.

    • @WhyNotRV
      @WhyNotRV  Před 9 měsíci

      Exactly, I was just giving a for instance. There’s endless applications for this. 10 minute use to make coffee… couple few hours to recharge batteries…

    Could this be useful? Sure. Is it the best option? Not even close. I wouldn't necessarily call this product a scam, but seriously, just buy a cheap pure sine wave inverter and call it a day. Better yet get a small generator that weighs a little more and puts out the same power using significantly less fuel.

    • @WhyNotRV
      @WhyNotRV  Před 2 měsíci

      Little older couple who just want cpap and tv overnight? This is a perfect solution for that example among MANY others.

    Have to agree with the other commenters, only good for short term emergency while running car using fuel otherwise IMO you'd be better off with solar, generator, power bank etc, cant be good for the alternator.

    • @WhyNotRV
      @WhyNotRV  Před 9 měsíci

      It’s perfectly fine for the alternator so long as you get the proper size for your vehicles capabilities

  • @marcuspalmer1889
    @marcuspalmer1889 Před 9 měsíci +3

    Seems like a pretty terrible idea. For the price just get a champion generator. Way more fuel efficient and won't destroy your alternator.

    Is Idling bad?
    Idling is a fact of life and everyone does it. Stuck in traffic, or waiting an hour to pickup the kids from soccer on a crazy hot day is simply a job our vehicles are already engineered to do. Use an OBD vehicle scanner and observe for yourself how many "idle hours" are already on your engine.
    If you think about it - an engine doesnt really know of care if its standing stationary or going down the road at 60 miles an hour.
    Ford's ProPower fully supports idling your gas engine for 85 HOURS on a tank, producing 2000 watts of power.
    GM offers a truck bed 400 watt power outlet which the GM instructions state can "be used for things like a Slowcooker or Crockpot", as stated by the manufacturer! How many hours would you idle your engine to run your slow cooker or crock pot?
    Honda Ridgeline has a 400 watt truck bed outlet "for tailgating and watching TV", which requires the engine idling. So how long would you idle watching TV?
    WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS ANYWAY?
    Using your vehicle as a generator is an INTENTIONAL choice for many people. They simply do not want to own, maintain, or wrangle a heavy gas generator. Many people drag around a big heavy gas generator for months and only end up using it a few hours, occasionally. So using your vehicle engine instead is far more convenient and less hassle. That said, if you camp off grid for days in blazing temperatures and need a generator 24/7 around the clock, then a traditional gas generator may be your only choice.

      The below paragraph is directly out of the 2022 ram 3500 6.7 liter Cummins diesel owners manual
      ENGINE IDLING
      Avoid prolonged idling. Long periods of idling may be harmful to your engine because combustion chamber temperatures can drop so low that the fuel may not burn completely. Incomplete combustion allows carbon and varnish to form on piston rings, engine valves, and injector nozzles. Also, the unburned fuel can enter the crankcase, diluting the oil and causing rapid wear to the engine.

      @@richardtaylor2973 Try and define “prolonged idling”. Five minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours, 8 hours, or more? If you are worried about this you can also enable high idle or elevated idle on many vehicles. BTW, this is what the RAM website states, see below
      Bed Outlet
      The 2024 Ram 2500 boasts an available 115-Volt/400-Watt bed outlet in the rear of the truck bed on the driver side for powering tools and tailgate essentials.
      The 2023 Ram 3500 boasts an available 115-Volt/400-Watt Bed Outlet in the rear of the truck bed on the driver side. This helpful feature can power tools and equipment to tailgate essentials and is easily accessed with the flip of a switch.

    This is bad and you should feel bad for posting it, and the creator should feel bad for making it. Unsubscribed (had notifs on too).
    2,000w Predator portable generator at Harbor Freight is $600 (same price) and you're not excessively idling your car. Why buy something that adds more wear and tear to your vehicle that you need to get around places? Not to mention it's 12v -> 120v -> 12v.
    There are laws in some areas banning your car/truck idling.
    I'm assuming a truck engine is much louder than a tiny inverter generator. Quick Google search says 80 dba vs 58 dba.
    Now, this could be useful in a pinch/emergency, it obviously works... But so could a $50-$150 typical 1000w inverter. They sell them at Walmart, auto parts stores, etc. where you can plug into a cigarette lighter... But if you need full power from it, you have to make a direct battery connection. Only downside is that it's not nicely packaged to hang outside the vehicle... But if you're that worried about all scenarios, then buy a portable generator.
    If you want something just for emergencies, a standard inverter is more useful inside your car for a fraction of the price, and you can try to rig it up if you ever really need. It took me 5 mins to connect a battery tender to our motorhome's starter battery from under the passenger seat where I piug it in. Same concept. Only 5" of wire is cutting over from the door seal to the hood, no actual install needed. Weather proof. Have just kept it on there for over a year, even while driving.

      I completely understand where you are coming from. Definitely wouldn’t argue with your logic. But let me ask you, could you agree that this is a good product for our elderly that don’t have the strength to lift and move around a generator? Or even a fuel can? Just to have a little bit of power for overnight? Not talking about AC or anything just minimal like TV and a cpap? Do you see how this could benefit someone like that?

    • @nashdashflash
      @nashdashflash Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@WhyNotRV I can definitely understand the use-case and utility but I think it's limited/niche, irresponsible (to suggest some could idle their engines all night), and expensive.
      Also, this 1,400w generator is cheaper ($450) and only weighs 33 lbs.

    ahhh.... the old wives tales about idling is bad.... lol. Take a look at more and more vehicles with a 2kw inverter generator BUILT IN, Ford F150 non-hybrid idles for 85 HOURS as sold and marketed by Ford, F250 and F350 superduty with builtin 2kw inverter same thing, RAM1500 with built in 2kw inverter, Honda Ridgeline with truck bed inverter "for tailgating, slow cookers etc" as marketed by Honda. Get an OBD scanner and check the thousands of idle hours on your own engine right now. Idling is a fact of life, and simply another job that our vehicles do for us. Cheers
