- Hello, this video is all about EPP, fussy cutting, odd-shaped hexagons, and a very talented woman called Lucy Boston.
She lived in one of the oldest continuously inhabited homes in the UK. I've found a video on CZcams if you'd like to know more.

Lucy Boston was a patchwork maker and her specialty was EPP, particularly optical illusions created by fussy cutting and hexagons.
I did find a website selling pre-cut papers

Hi everyone glad you're still enjoying this video, just for clarification the link to the Etsy shop is not my shop! I make my own papers but I thought a link to buy them would be really helpful, I am not affiliated in any way with the Etsy shop. Happy sewing 😊
Yes U have inspired me, I have everything I need 2 start but just needed the know how and U gave it 2 me this Autumn morning here in New Zealand watching U on Utube when I woke up and saw Lucy Boston's name pop up, so I watched and now just having breakfast and thinking on William Morris fabrics or French General. Ohhhhhh am I going 2 have fun, thank U ever so much in waking my brain up 4 action this Friday morning of April 5th 2024, busy head 2day. So maybe after Lucy Boston, Jane Austen is next on my list .
Have fun stitching and cutting, as I will be 2 challenge myself 4 a lap size quilt, so watch out Christmas time here I come .
Best in stitching.
Cheers Crisy
I just watched inspired by Lucy Boston - video/ I never thought I’d want to try paper piecing - not enough patience - your Video has changed my mind -I’m disabled - but hyper a good old 66 years of age -I must create & use my hand for sanity’s sake - I’m crochet, learning quilting in CZcams& love embroidery - Kate in Arizona high desert ( the real Wild West!) My Grandfather was born in England- I will keep watching & learning - thank- you for inspiring my brain & emotions🌸🙋🏼♀️🌵❤️
Sorry for texting to many words😮
Absolutely beautiful. ❤
Absolutely beautiful xxx
Beautiful work, and a great tutorial!!!
Totally inspired - and will be sharing your video with my quilting friends!
Very interesting. I am new to EPP and was glad to see the variations of the hexagon. Very informative thank you for sharing.
This has been really helpful, thank you very much!
Stunning
how inspiring! thank you
I tried starting this quilt several years ago. My tastes changed in fabrics, and then I felt overwhelmed to try this again. Your quilt blocks are so beautiful. They inspired me to start stitching again. Thank you :)
Wonderful video. Really enjoyed the whole history of the author. Thank you for sharing, this was very enjoyable and educational. ❣️
These are beautiful. I am looking into starting English paper piecing and you where the first to come across my feed and I am so ecstatic about it! 😆
Just WOW! Not seen these hexigons before. Done all sorts of patchwork by machine and hand. Beautiful work might have to have a go
Your art is SO BEAUTIFUL. AWE INSPIRING. Thank you Eleanore🥰♥️X
What a fascinating video. Thank you very much. Completely inspirational! I am just about to get started on my first project, so I'll be watching this again as it had so much useful information in it.
These are so beautiful, and all easy enough to make if you know how to pick the right fabrics and remember your geometry and design. I've always shied away from border prints and stripes. They are the perfect example of why we need to practice design. It's back drafting. Eleanor you are so talented and your Mom too.
They are absolutely beautiful. Like medieval stained glass windows. Just subscribed xx
I love the way these blocks come together and - to see a more traditional simple way of patchwork methods being used, without all the modern paraphernalia! - the result is so unique and beautiful! thank you for sharing this🙂
What a great video. I have just ordered some of these paper pieces so that I can start a Lucy Boston quilt. I realise now that it’s going to take time but that’s the point of EPP. I have only sewn normal hexagons before so it’s very useful to watch you constructing and joining the ‘church window’. I haven’t tried fussy cutting but you have inspired me to have a go. Thanks for all you advice.
Great technique!
Tip: if you flat-stitch the pieces together you can be even more accurate and no threads show. If you make a correct finished sized template from a clear plastic sheet you can permanent pen key points of the design on it matching the shape perfectly on the wrong side of the fabric. Then you can biro round the shape precisely, no exact seam is required and the paper liner for piecing can fit perfectly within the biro line, and no need to stitch through the card. This approach is a very comfortable approach especially when stitching together large pieces and quilts. PS. Love your work, well done.
Those border prints are gorgeous!
Love these!! Thank you for the instructions, I've been working with hexagons for a short time, but fell in love with the Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses. So...starting to gather fabric and making plans. Thanks again, your blocks are beautiful!
Simply beautiful. Many thanks.
You’ve inspired me to attempt a Lucy Boston crosses quilt 😊 just beautiful ❤
I just found this video the other day the blocks are amazing. I brought some fabric to have a go with. I have photocopied it and cut out various hexagons so I can play around with different areas of the design workout actually cutting in to my fabric. It is amazing how many designs you can get from one piece of fabric.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL....
Gorgeous program always!!!❤❤
Thank you for this wonderful walk through on creating EPP fussy cut blocks. Your explanations are great and very clear. Now I want to raid my fabric stash, though I don’t think I own many boarder prints. So that just means an adventure to find fabrics. 😃
I could listen and watch you all day. Love your voice. Love, love all the information you give us. I have just ordered a book on Lucy Boston's quilt which I am so excited to receive. Take care and enjoy your stitches🤗
Lovely 😍
All those blocks look amazing!
Hello, I just found your channel recently and I wanted to comment and let you know how much I'm enjoying it! I love learning about EPP patchwork design and your voice is just lovely to listen to. I appreciate that they are on the longer side as well, as its nice to listen to while I'm working. Thank you so much!!
Lovely video. I just started EPP and am finishing up my first quilt top - all regular 2.5” hexagons and no fussy cutting. But I believe I am hooked and would like very much to venture farther into EPP. Your video is truly inspirational. Thank you!
Wow Sharon, congratulations on your first quilt top! Glad you enjoyed the video, thank you.
Thank you so much for this video. I just made your template with you. You have given me so many ideas with some old fabrics I have that I had no idea what to do with. This is great!
Thank you so much for sharing. I’m new to your channel you just popped up on my CZcams. It’s like someone knew I need this video because I just get a book on hexagon to do one of the quilts. I’m working on a Grandmother’s flower garden with hexagons. I will be starting to get my fabric soon. God bless you and your family have a blessed morning.
I Love these blocks. I am also working on a Lucy Boston pattern. But mine is mot as beautiful as what you and your mom did. Gave me some inspiration.
how beautiful thank you for sharing
Those blocks are so pretty, I'd love to try this sometime. 'Foolhardy with fabric' sounds like a great name for a CZcams channel.
I Love LM Boston. Thank you for sharing your book and trip. These EPP pieces are beautiful. I am trying my first hexagon one. Just a newbie.
Marvelous Video! I am in love with EPP and Lucy Boston. I have four blocks completed and always looking for fabric that with fit into the Patchwork of Crosses. Thanks for your tips!
Lovely video, EPP is my favourite kind of patchwork but I've yet to try fussy cutting. I enjoyed hearing the history of Lucy Boston ,the blocks you and your mum have made are beautiful !
Thank you ☺️ fussy cutting is so much fun I hope you have a go one day.
This is so beautiful... I love this. I have always wanted to start EPP but didn't really like the other hexi- styles (too much old grandma's garden) but this is it.. I am going to us these "church" hexi... I love everything about it... Thank you for inspiring me!
Thank you for your lovely comment Deb, and good luck with your hexie project.
I’ve just started my first EPP project and this video was both helpful and inspirational, thank you !
I’m using some vintage Liberty of London fabrics (a favorite since I was young) and simple hexagons to start with.
There’s something so relaxing about hand sewing.
Hi Suzy, thank you for your comment ☺️ and I'm glad you found it interesting and helpful, I also made this video a couple of months ago czcams.com/video/RNRCInap_0M/video.html and you might find it helps with EEP too.
What a fantastic video! You have really inspired us to have a go at making one of these. This project just seemed so overwhelming but having watched this video with my poorly 6 year old daughter even she was inspired and asked me to write a comment to tell you. I’m looking forward to starting to collect some fabrics for this and and making it a long term project 😁. Thanks again for taking the time and effort to make this video.
Thank you for reading from her book and inspiring me further on this elongated hexie pattern. I have seen it before but not in this fashion. My favourite quilt I have made is a kaleidoscope version of Katja Marek’s patterns. I can’t wait to dig into this one further.
I'm not familiar with Katia Marek, I'll be sure to look her up. Glad you're inspired.
I have been planning to try Patchwork of the Crosses, and your video is just the inspiration I need!
Hi Debra, I'm so glad you are inspired ☺️ good luck with your project.
Thank youu
Very informative, great guide and interesting history
Why thank you ❤️ we should visit it one day, I think you would find it really interesting.
Beautiful. I would love to try this.
Lovely video. Inspired me to make some more blocks!
I'm so glad, Thank you for lending me all your beautiful blocks. ❤️ xxxx
Beautiful blocks!
Thank you 😊
I call the fabric you were calling shining cotton, polished cotton. Thanks so much I have enjoyed you. Purchased from your Etsy shop also. I hope to get into paper pieceing.
Have fun with your paper piecing, warning, it can take over your life a bit 😉
I don’t know if the French expression is able to be translate but I fin that the colour and design of your fabric is "rich", opulent! Wow!
What an inspiring and informative video. I have been researching epp before I get started, this was super cool view of it! Your quilt is going to be gorgeous!!! You said the fabrics are hard to find, is it the patterns you are talking about or is it a type of fabric?
gorgeous
❤
Subscribed and rang the bell.
Absolutely love the blocks that you and your Mum have created. You said that you pick up fabric by Jenny ?Barer. Can I have the correct spelling of her last name as I'd like to look for her fabric. I have done a lot of EPP but you've inspired me to try fussy cutting.
Hi Andrea, I've only just seen your comment, it's Jinny Beyer 😊
genial
How much fabric do you buy with Jenny Beyer fabrics for each fabric
I would love to do this but a d d does not give me the patience....that would take me till I'm dead
I know it's not for everyone, you could make one block? And turn it into cushion.
