- Brisbane Jam Nite at Alloneword Tony Royster Jr came along and had a bit of a jam with the Brisvegas Musos. In this video they have a jam playing an ol' skool classic 'The Chicken. These guys really tear it up. Tony is truly talented and very inspiring musician. Mark Peric on Bass, Gavin Manikus on Saxophone and Richard Thayil on Keys really brought it home. Truely an AMAZING night and a very talented bunch of musos. Enjoy.

Yeah i agree. Most everything you see is him shredding which is cool, but his pocket is on point. I think this is what separates him from Thomas pridgen

Tony Royster has what they call absolute control over his instrument. I just came here from watching him play with a metronome and I swear he was telling it how to count. It seems like he never has to question what he's playing, it just comes out natural as breathing.

Notice how tony plays softer during the solos (especially the bass player's solo @5:14); like others have said, this is a great side of tony that we usually don't see on youtube. This is the side of him that has gotten him, and more importantly, and kept him in many superstar level gigs. Great video.
He's respectful and very humble, but a great drummer that plays well with others.
Always has been and always will be on another level entirely. Genius.

All of Tony's resets are magical but the one from 2:05-2:13 is ridiculously great....pocket maintained with the grooviness added...EXCELLENT!!!!

i think everyone notices, the thing about it is though, it feels good the entire time, time fluctuations can easily be looked over even enjoyed when it feels good. tony keeps this amazing groove the entire time, even though he speeds up, it never loses the feel. his groove by far dominates his chops, so important.

Tony really feeds off of the energy of each soloist, which to me is unbelievable! He really feels it with the sax player, but settles down for the trombonist, bassist , pianist. IMO, it's because the sax produced the best solo with the most dynamic and flowing groove, whereas the others didn't have the vivacity of the sax's playing.
This was awesome, Tony Royster Jr is the man on drums.

this was fun to watch usually you see tony on this huge piece set but it was good to see him on a smaller set proving that a simple set can do the trick
