  • On-the-fly stem separation is the new big thing in the world of DJ software. But what if you want something more studio oriented for your edits and remixes, or to create stems for performing with as a DJ when your platform of choice doesn’t support it? The newly released Stemverter 3 may be the solution you’re looking for.
It’s been upgraded massively over the previous version, and the core AI engine is based on Meta’s DEMUCS, meaning it should provide some of the best quality stems in the game. We give it a full review on the new episode of Beatsource Tech.

To my ear, VirtualDJ and Stemverter seem to sound best across the examples here.

I'm an old and stubborn Traktor user and this is the answer for using stems. After using Stemverter, I can drop the files into "Stem Creator" (free app) and done, I have a stem file compatible with Traktor. I have an S4 controller so the mute/unmute buttons are there. Thanks for all the content.

Nuo Stems 2.0 uses the same algorithm, exports to Traktor Stem format (so no need to use the Stem creator) and is way more affordable (30€).

Nice! I’d be interested in hearing the difference with between Steamverter and Izotope’s RX app. For the price, though, it’s a no-brainer good deal for Steamverter.

These software stem extractors are getting so good! I was stoked about Serato, but there are still lots of artifacts in the stems - great for live but not as much for a higher quality remix. Virtual DJ sounds impressive too, but Stemverter seems like it takes the cake

I like ripx .. just got the remix one for 50 Bucks and its great you can clean up the glitchy artifacts.. still not 100% but you can eq some of it, add some fx and its usable.. like most of these, the source quality also is a massive factor..

Serato Stems is kind of trash! particularly vocals sound like 64kbps rip downloaded from Napster in 2003!

Hahaha for real tho. Vdj stems is more usable, especially the version 2.0 it's just like close enough to studio quality.

I don't understand why producers don't like releasing their content already in stems, how NI perseived initially 6 years ago! This now that you can sort of do it yourself with 3rd party software without consent of the artist/producer. The quality still isn't that good or never will be when relying on software to split a single source, each stem sounds like an 16kbs mp3. Though will be interesting to hear the quality of Traktors implementation when they introduce it to their own software as they were the forethinkers.

Did I get it right, playing all stems at the same time does not exactly equal the original track? I'd really like to use stems inside traktor but since most of the time I will play all stems (like the original track) I don't want to lack quality here just for the ability to play with the acapella, drums, etc. every once in a while

Great to see CFLO continue to improve his app. However, this seems like more of an ad for Virtual DJ than Stemverter. It consistently sounded better in every example. Also, if youre trying to compare them, why would you use different parts of the song?
