- James O'Brien discusses the assassination attempt on Donald Trump and praises his reaction to the incident.
Saturday evening saw a shooter take aim at the former president during a rally in Pennsylvania, with Trump shot in the ear by a sniper before being rushed off stage by close security.
He's now said he's "lucky to be alive" in his first interview since he was shot at.
James argues that the former president's response was 'very impressive' and 'objectively remarkable'.
However, he stresses that this still hasn't taken away his 'disgust for what he has done to democracy.'

I do think that O’Brien is an idiot also, but some entities/ ideas can be intrinsically remarkable.
For example, I think that reproduction is intrinsically remarkable, it is impressive in virtue of itself, that being the action of creating a new life.

He could not have made it clearer he still despises all that Trump believes and stands for. He said that several times. This is what he was talking about. Objectively if it were a more sane former president who had done the exact same thing, we would all (including me) be satisfied with his reaction. However there is the dichotomy because it's Trump, a man who has exclusively stood for hate and bigotry, so we are rightly skeptical of his response. James said exactly that, nothing else. Everyone knows what Trump has done and stands for, the question James is thinking about is how thay affects our view of the event and the aftermath

And how quickly we were told what was happening off-stage. Yes, his reaction was indeed bizarre. He had never “pretended” before - ever. Lied. Certainly. Acting is a different skill, and he couldn’t carry it off. Though it was as brief as they could make it. As for the “shot” itself - which actually connected , so we are told, ask any firearms expert. If the journalists had any private doubts, they wouldn’t share them with us. They would be risking their credibility.: they’ll wait until later.
