Mashed potatoes with brussel sprouts, onions, mushrooms (optional) and minced meat. Add some salt, pepper and nutmeg and voilá. You're Dutch. Extra Dutchie-points when you add gravy.

One of my favorite parts about the nutmeg discourse is that he literally bought the smallest container of nutmeg in the store, so it's not even like he bought a ton of something he'll never use. I also totally agree with why he bought nutmeg. I've never used nutmeg in alfredo, but 100% recommend that when you learn how to cook, you should buy ingredients based off of dishes you will actually enjoy enough to cook more than once; not based off of some arbitrary list of what is considered "pantry/fridge staples." Rob was trying to help, but he was wrong :/
@@GerbillCage hundred percent agree, and so does French cooking. if you're not putting nutmeg in your white sauce, or your cheese sauce, you're sleeping (also, for cheese sauce try a small amount of mustard powder).
If you have no ingredients whatsoever, you start with the ingredients you need for your recipes. Apollo was completely in the right. Next time he cooks in 3 years he can get another spice and build the collection. Don’t just buy oregano just because you’ll use it more later.
what? no, if you live a lone you'd buy shit like milk, eggs, bread, cheese, and basic vegetables and a cheap thing like groundbeef and flour. you're fine for like 100's of food items. not gonna buy tortilla chips, sour cream, groundbeef, and cheese first to make nachoes. you'd spend the extra 10$ when you're feeling something
Rob, You're wrong about white pepper. NL is correct that it's primarily in Chinese cooking. It does have a different flavor though. I feel like it's spicier, that it builds more. It has less fruitiness, if you're one of those super tasters
Oh man, Apollo wasted his ONE trip to the grocery store everyone knows you're only allotted one grocery store trip for their entire lives and can't get anything else. /s

Hey can we have a compilation of Ryan's storied of when he was in school/a kid. For example, when he chucked crackers in the trash or threw the flower at the teacher's feet. Or the gravel mound in his driveway.
Apollo was so in the right on the nutmeg. Why would you change your childhood recipe? If it was Rob he would’ve gone on a million hour long spiel about how it’s the best Alfredo he’s ever had and it would’ve been a war crime to change it
I think robs argument can only be valid if he has actually tried alfredo with and without nutmeg. Due to the nutmeg debacle I tried it and i found that there was absolutely no difference.
does NL really not have more than 1 type of cooking oil in his home? canola, olive and sesame oil all serve different purposes tho it seems like NL only eats wraps and take out so I don't imagine he actually cooks anything
The only thing he did wrong was buy ground nutmeg instead of whole. That ground stuff is gonna be sawdust in a month. Whole nutmeg grated fresh is way better and lasts for years.
I'm super late but like many people have said: canola is a high heat oil and good for high temp frying, deep frying, and is also a neutral oil (no distinct flavor of its own) olive is a med heat oil and can be used med temp frying, it also has its own distinct flavor and can be used as a topping (mostly commonly in Italian food) sesame oil is a finishing oil, and shouldn't be used for cooking in most applications as it loses flavor and can burn nutmeg goes great on alfredo and if you're making a dish often because you like it, you should buy invest in the ingredients
