    Having a single bookkeeper for an enterprise with 300+ employees seems like it's likely they are overloaded. Most companies with that many employees with have a few different people for inventory, receivables, etc.

      Yeah it sounds like they've got a mountain on her plate. They need more people doing the books.

      Agreed. U need a working accounting manager, AP and AR team member, And maybe 1 staff accountant . Not just one accounting manager doing everything

      If one person is doing AR and AP the problem may resolve itself ;)

    Typical management! Doesn't understand an employees job? A good leader should know what it takes to do a job then make corrections.

    Love this new program. Really interesting hearing how Dave thinks about business issues.

    Based on experience most of the time it is just too much work. Management tends to greatly underestimate and not understand the amount of work involved, especially those who didn't work their way up and have good office politics skills to thank for their position. Example: year end closing takes a couple months (at least) and on January 4 the partners were surprised the previous year wasn't closed yet for a 100+ Public Relations firm with international clients.

    He's giving one person too much work.
    A book keeper for three hundred people. That is a lot for one person.
    Or course Dave wants to blame the employee, instead of them being over worked.
    People can only work so fast. You cannot make people work faster.

      He actually said the opposite was his default tendency.

    • @random-nz7dy
      @random-nz7dy Před rokem

      So first of all Dave said the opposite thing and that he usually assumes he gave them too much work.
      Second of all there's other people commenting on here saying that this is a manageable load for a bookkeeper.
      So I think this person really just needs to do more investigation as to what's being asked of this person day in and day out in order to determine if it's too much or unrealistic

    There’s a difference between being lazy and being inefficient. Are there workflows that need tweaking and streamlining? Are there tools or software that could automate processes? Always check for this.

    One booker in a 300 person organization? 😅 Is she handling shipping and building maintenance too? Good lord!

  • @davewarrant8673

    A couple decades ago I was hired into a position that I was horribly unqualified for... as my predecessor did it. My predecessor typed 80wpm and averaged 60 hours a week. My first few months were epically frustrating. Then I automated the whole thing and spent 15 minutes a day doing the job.
    Sometimes it's not the person OR the volume, but the method.

  • @frankcb11

    Good advice! From Dave! This company is behind not necessarily this one person. They might need to have someone in specific areas (payroll,AR,AP) and someone else on the other stuff. Or have someone to the catch up stuff and another keep up with current stuff. Or even hire someone on contract for 3-6months (saves cost on benefits) and have them come in and help for that time period. Hard to blame this one person for their problems right now. If after all that then they are still falling behind then they can evaluate the person.

  • @RozeeBeez

    Here's an idea...maybe ask the person why she is behind. Find out what the problem is.

    I wonder how the person's productivity breaks down. Is it over a year or over the day? Maybe he or she doesn't pace themselves well so that 60% or whatever it was when they're killing it is going all out at a pace unsustainable over longer periods of time. I worked a temp collections job years ago where they just needed someone a couple of weeks and it was around 26 hours per week. I crushed it and made a ton of collections calls and just went all out. Going at that pace 8 hours per day 250 days per year would have admittedly been tougher to keep up with. I temped there once later for a similar need and they later offered me a job but at that point I found one that I enjoyed more. It was a good experience though and made me more comfortable with eventually starting or buying a finance company or bank when I have the means.

    I hate this "team member" garbage. Dave is usually not like this, but it's part of the squishy, modern, corporate speak language. People who work for me are not my team members, they are my employees. I can't fire a team member. A team member is someone you are an equal with. Changing the word does not change the employee/employer relationship.

    • @dacianbonta2840
      @dacianbonta2840 Před rokem +6

      LoL: 16 vs. 300+, plus whatever non-streamlined penny pinching nonsense this owner comes up with (as immigrants we're not always aware of the LONG term consequences of our actions/behaviors). Plus owner does not know number of employees (?) does not understand what the employee does. I can see how the poor employee is just running around, putting out fires given employer's chaos.

    • @joyouscynic3363
      @joyouscynic3363 Před rokem +3

      Bookkeeping for nonprofits is usually absurdly easy. Not trying to rain on your employee's parade here, but the only "challenging" aspect of nonprofit accounting is the allocation of functional expenses, and MAYBE dealing with external audit if you're being subjected to Single Audit. The actual day to day disbursements and receipts is way different from the volume associated with a 300 person for-profit enterprise. The problem with most business owners is that they hire Mary Sue as a bookkeeper because they want to pay poorly, not realizing that whatever money they're saving on the bookkeeper they're losing from how long the CPA firm is involved fixing things at a higher rate.
