      Well done mate, I only recorded a switch replacement video last week. But didn’t try to repair it. Unfortunately if a repair doesn’t work for me, it means I could be accountable for the 2nd repair, so just fit new nowadays 😔😔

    Exactly the same problem on my 2015 Polo - about a month ago they started coming on randomly, did it about 4 times, but last week wipers started going all the time... looks like i need a new switch :(

    Good Video Serious Live Data from the Snap on Scanner ....Interesting that Disconnecting the switch stops the Wipers ....I have seen a open circuit switching The Function ON ....Enjoyed The Video ....🚗🚗👍

    • @kennedysgarage3281
      @kennedysgarage3281  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Ian, Volkswagen can be nuts with the amount of live data pids, it probably took 20 minutes to find the wiper inputs. The snap on doesn’t have a search function with is awkward but I do like the Verus as a scanner.
      Also the wiper switch is only a position sensor for the body control module to see what you want the wipers to do and not a module itself, so disconnecting it only looses a position input and not any form of communication signal, thanks dude 🙏👍

    Had this problem on my daughter's 2015 polo 6c I tackled this weekend, the delay wipe had been running constant for weeks and when she asked the VW dealer to fix it they wanted over £200 to replace the combination switch so left car with me for a day to check out, there no fault codes showing. After checking the internet apparently is a common issue and I suspected a pair of contacts had gone closed circuit, removed the Valeo comb. switch and took off the square plastic cover to expose the internals. sure enough there where spots of bluish verdigris around the brass contacts and confirmed a short circuit with the meter, the fix was simply to gently scrape out the scale with tiny blade, wipe clean and apply liberal coating of Vaseline to all the contacts and re-assemble, been working fine all week.

      @@kennedysgarage3281 Thanks Peter, have to own up a bit here, a local breakers yard had a comb. switch removed from a wreck for sale at £45 and so I thought if I strip my switch and it ended up unrepairable at least I had a plan B to fall back on ....

      @alank2296 Před rokem +1

      @@danyalhussain9525 Hello, since I stripped out the switch and cleaned and dressed the contacts its never given a problem since. Peter from Kennedys garage who kindly posted this video gave an excellent diagnoses of a faulty wiper switch so study his commentary and if you are having similar problems likely it will be faulty contacts in the switch. It is repairable if you are at least a confident DIY person with a decent range of tools and patience, you will need to remove the steering wheel airbag unit + wheel to allow removal the Valeo combination wiper/indicator switch assembly, link down below for this job. Stripping of the switch is a bit tricky, don't let the brass contacts fall out on the underside when splitting the case and look out for Bluish Verdigris across any contacts which may indicate why the wiper is constantly on delay wipe ..... sorry didn't keep any photos of the stripped switch. czcams.com/video/u4KrjuJfLEo/video.html

    I drive a 2015 polo and setting off to work on Monday morning I noticed that my wipers on the slow intermittent setting would not turn off …. My mechanic checked the system just like the video and the result was not plausible, so he ordered a new switch and it’s getting fitted tomorrow, here’s hoping 🤞

  • @ciaranjmurray
    @ciaranjmurray Před rokem +2

    This has just happened with my 2015 Polo. Previously I had to replace the blower resistor as the blower only worked on lowest speed (easy enough to do yourself if you get the right replacement part but very fiddly). Seems like an unusual amount of corrosion of electrical parts in Polos of this era. Don't fancy having a DIY stab at this one if the airbag is in the equation. I'll be shelling out another few hundred to the local garage so...

    Could this also be an issue on a caddy 2017? My wipers just started going on there own with no control from the stalk, had to pull the fuse as they were going even with ignition off, put fuse back in and they were inoperative, got vcds and scanned only information I’m getting is no communication with wiper motor, I’ve replaced wiper motor and power control module, with no success thus far, according to the wiring diagram the signal wire comes from the power control module to wiper but there’s nothing coming through, I wonder if the stalk is not telling the control module to move them cause it’s faulty 🤔.

      Hi Matthew, that sounds like an interesting problem & would be hard for me to say without seeing the car. Can you see wiper switch position on body control module data ???
      I had a screen washer motor stop working on a caddy recently & had no power coming to the motor. Only to find after 1 hr of testing that all it needed was the battery to be disconnected for 30 minutes. Might be worth a try 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

    Good old German equipment failure , at least he will be see if it rains when driving Peter , until the blades tear , the motor burns out , scratches the screen or sets on fire , then his local insurance engineer assessor who watches you tube before bedtime, and has seen this one and thinks I've seen that car on Peters channel , we are not paying for that one , negligence on behalf of the customer 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, why is it in our trade customers think we make a ton of cash on parts , dealers hardly give any discount nowadays , especially after diesel gate , by a certain German car manufacturer (and all the others 😂😂👍), great idea though , no different to doing a dpf regen while driving past a field of crops , great video Peter , many would have jumped at the motor park unit, well done 👍👍
