    Your presentation is effective and informative without being overly serious. This is rather rare on CZcams. Your videos are very watchable, also rare to hold interest throughout. I've owned this camera since it came out, also own the SX50. Both are good but the SX70HS is far better in many ways. These cameras fill a great gap in the range of cameras out there. This one I highly recommend as a travel/vacation camera. You'll come home with shots you'd never get with most cameras and you''ll travel light! Keep up the good work & I'll keep watching and learning new things about gear I already own!

    I really needed this video, thank you so much! You covered all the possible topics, all the details, and cleared up a lot about the equipment. I've been trying to decide which camera and lens to buy for a few months now, and it's pretty expensive for me at the moment. The toggle on the side of the lens operates a slower zoom that works really well with video. Of course, the zoom control located at the shutter button will also zoom at a slower rate. But, if you are not careful you may accidently zoom quickly which may not be a good look in the video.

    Nice review of this ”old” camera. I use mine mainly for documenting wildlife. Compared to a system camera it is slow and needs a lot of light. It is not expensive and the size is small enough for me to always carry it in my backpack every day. It works great for both macro photo of insects, flowers etc and telephoto of birds, mammals etc.
    One thing that is really annoying is that insertion of coordinates doesn’t work. I don’t know why Canon failed here because it worked well in the SX60!?

I currently have a Canon EOS 700D with standard lens and 55 - 250mm lens, but looking for something with a bit more zoom, mainly for wildlife and more portability than the heavy camera and lenses. Great video! Its so in depth it puts othrr reviews to shame. Can I ask when taking video using zoom: 1. Does the camera lose focus easily on a moving subject and 2. Is the stabilization good for tracking moving subject?

    • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  Před rokem +1

      Hey there ! Much appreciated for the comment - to answer your questions- as the zoom increases, the autofocus does have a tendency to hunt a bit You can see from the video that the stabilization to me was the biggest disappointment- at high zoom it’s pretty shaky so I would say for critical work , I think you might be disappointed especially if it’s a fast moving subject. Thanks again

    • @alanlow6195
      @alanlow6195 Před rokem

      @@techtoremember8096 hey thanks for fast reply. I guess things get tricky when its zoomed out anything more than 20x. I m using a Nikon B700 and its has disappointing videos when zoomed out and tracking moving subject. Especially in sunrise condition against the sun the auto white balance fails to correct and subject becomes over exposed while in gray skies condition the subject remains dark and under exposed. And top it off the inbuilt mic picks up internal sounds during recording. Auto focus loses subject easily if its moving when zoomed out and auto stabilization does nothing much even in HD mode only.
      In your experience would you recommend for shooting video of moving subject in the sky, a Panasonic Lumix FZ2500 or a Nikon P1000? Thanks once again.

      Hi there. Thanks for the comment. A tripod would definitely have given steadier footage but most people who buy this camera are using it casually and I wanted to show the results you can expect if using it without a tripod because in my opinion, this is how most people will be shooting. • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thanks very much! Personally I think the FZ300 is a more consistent performer than the Canon. If you need the 1200mm zoom however the FZ300 will only get you half way there. If you need really an incredible zoom, then yes either the P950 or the p1000 are options (I have several videos on these cameras too). The P950 goes to 2000mm and is more manageable in terms of size and weight than the P1000. Its a bit more expensive than the Canon and Panasonic too, but I'd say if its within your budget and you don't mind a bit of extra heft, then you should consider the Nikons.. Otherwise the Panasonic still has great reach with 600mm and the images are surprisingly good. The Canon is good if there is ample light, but was a bit disappointed with the stabilization overall. Thanks for your comment.

    Preparing for a trip to Glacier NP and Banff Canada. Any tips for best results on landscape settings? I would like to set the C1 and C2 for Landscape and critter pics. I want to be able to zoom in on any possible animal encounters from a fair distance and still get shots that aren't too grainy. The pics from my Yellowstone visit are not as good as I had hoped. Had just recently purchased the SX70 and had not had a lot of time to play with it. Any tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    • @techtoremember8096
      @techtoremember8096  Před rokem +1

      Hi! I have the same trip as you by the way coming up in September. A great spot for photography indeed. What I would recommend is try to avoid the temptation of using the longest zoom setting. Sometimes we feel we must use it because its "there" but in fact I have noticed a pretty significant degradation at full zoom. This is common with zoom lenses, especially ones like this which have such a long zoom range on such a small sensor, and to keep the price down, compromises must be made. So when you zoom in on those critters, try not to go to full zoom. Landscapes should be totally fine for the camera as they allow a lot of natural light in. I would suggest going full wide at 21MM to get the full advantage and try the panorama mode for shots as they can work great! Remember if you are shooting video, you will lose that wide angle in your landscapes so take plenty of photos in wide angle as opposed to videos. Good luck. Hope this helps.

      @@techtoremember8096 Far better? most of the videos I've seen look pretty similar at least to me, I would be awesome if you could do a video comparing the video vs video and picture vs picture quality of the SX70 vs P1000 on the same day and on the same objects.

      I ditched my Nikon p900 for the canon sx70 purely from a portability viewpoint - and I'm not disappointed. The 65x vs 80x optical zoom isn't such a big loss to me.

    The video stabilization seems terrible even compared to the Panasonic FZ80/FZ82.

      @@techtoremember8096 The autofocus isn't really Sony quality, either. I'd say both my tiny DSC-HX99 and my DSC-HX400V have better autofocus than this.
