I with ya on the amber lights. Too many times I’ve been out camping in a dark sky location and have a telescope setup. Then someone rolls up nearby and blast super bright harsh white lights ruining my experience. Makes me wonder why folks want to get in nature if they blast away the night sky. Discrete white lighting works too. No need for the Home Depot parking lot lights I see out there in the wild.
Same here, I will be ordering one in the spring of 2024. Will have to take a trip to Indiana to order it as I have a few not advertised options I'd like to discuss.
I love the screen doors! It was a selling point for me! The air coming through is very nice. During the day, it can feel claustrophobic to have the solid doors closed.

Congrats on the upgrades. Having a shell is a huge plus. I have an off road pop up camper that I tow with my 16 Crewmax Tundra with shell. Been drooling over the Hiker for a while now. The plan is to eventually downsize to a Hiker when it's just the wife and I. I recently found your channel watching another video about the Hiker Trailers. First let me say y'all are putting out some great information with your videos. While watching this video I thought of a couple ideas that I would have tried and am not sure if you tried them first. The first idea is for your vents on the front of the camper. I can tell you used camper sewer parts. Did you consider using a residential exhaust/dryer vent at all? Sandwiching some screen material between the unit and camper would provide the same result, provide a lower profile on the camper wall allowing for better storage, and less parts to install. Another idea I had, since your son 3D printed a few parts for the camper, was colored covers for the lights. I saw you added that film to the light to make it amber, however printing a slide on cover with that film secured inside it would allow you the ability to change the color more easily. This camper seems to provide a great deal a versatility. I am seriously considering getting one for myself now. Thanks!
Thanks for your comment. We have not tried any other option for the vents on the front. We have found this to work well for us. We wanted something that angled down so if you have a driving rain it doesn't come through the vent. We did discuss having our son 3D print something to put over the lights but in the end decided we wanted something permanent - one and done :-) we haven't felt the need for any different colors. The film has worked well for us. We love the fact these trailers are light and very customizable (when you order it and then when you get home to make it your own.)
Hey Matt I like my Bluetti Solar folding 200w panels, because their easy to store and lighter than my Renogy100W solar suitecase!! Like you said of chasing the sun, i bought a set of 30' universal cabkes from Windy Nation and run them in series to my Bluetti AC200P. Now because of my work schedule I've not had them out much. But the last time i was out it was rainy and over cast and was pulling 76% as they laid atop my Rav4.. And I'm sure you know this, but make sure the amountof wattageyour panels will work with your charging system... Mark
Hi Matt. I have a jackery solar saga 100w so I repurposed that SAE zamp plug. I hooked up those SAE leads to the solar charge controller and now I can charge from the roof (200w Renogy panels) and from the jackery panel off side with long lead if we sit in the shade.
Great looking trailer! We are considering upgrading to a Hiker but are concerned about the south Texas heat and humidity causing issues with the plywood construction. Have y'all had any issues with water getting in or mold? Great channel and thanks for the info!

We wanted to try something different. Now that we have it we would recommend getting the XL if you plan on doing off roading that would require more clearance or you are taller and want the awning higher so you don't have to "duck under" the awning.
Matt you channel has been extremely useful. We are looking hard at ordering one soon. when you get a chance, could you tell me what the height dimension is of the very bottom of the galley? Hiker told me 15" but that doesn't seem right.

I wonder if you could use those front vents for a portable AC unit like EccoFlow has. It looks like you could work something up to hook the cool air output into the trailer and leave the unit outside for noise and exhaust.
Yes, its possible with the new AC units coming to market that are battery-operated. Hiker continues to make the front vents for general ventilation and for future AC units.

Great video. What do you do for surge protection? I was thinking about replacing the power strip provided by Hiker with one that included a surge protector. I wanted to make sure my Bluetti would not have a problem at a campground when I’m on shore power to recharge it. The other option is a surge protector outside but then it probably needs to be waterproof.

Why does Hiker not connect the line that connects to the car battery via the 7pin? Can you not take advantage of the tow charging then once you get to camp 'switch' over to solar? It may not be that easy, as I am in the learning phase of these rigs.
There had been an issue when they started making these trailers with making that connection and they have stopped doing it ever since. It is something you could do on your own when you get the trailer home.
We use the WaterPort - we set it on our bummer and it works well. If we want warm water, we can warm it up on our stove first and pour it into our WaterPort. amzn.to/3NnZHxL

Question about the shower. I don't like having the shower right next to the camper because the water runs all over the area we walk. Do you trench to divert the water away?
My wife is considering this model and I'm a big guy 6'5" I was hoping you could share a couple of measurements with me. I was wondering what is the height from the ground to the bottom of the door and I was also curious as to height from ground to lowest spot on awning (hard spot, like a mounting arm) I am curious if I will be able to walk under the awning without hitting my head.

I currently have a tenttrax trailer I tow with my Jeep TJ. I recently looked really hard at the hiker line up as I like the idea of being able to just pull up and your pretty much done. After seeing these in action I decided against them. They aren't really able to actually go offroad. Now hear me out everyone's definition is different. I'm not into rock crawling but push my jeep to limit. These trailers simple will not be able to go every where a jeep can. These are mostly forest road trailers. Even the small ones are too large for trails. So the are too large for trails but too small for amenities like toilet and shower. Every single person I have met who owns one thinks the go offroad but honestly any trailer can go down forest road. In the end just bought another trailer but it was full size
Yeah. You want the whole 9 yards, and probably want the trailer to have the same track width as your Jeep. I think MOST people actually want something in the middle. A straight axle with tall wheels and tires and coil-over-shock suspension would go anywhere most of us would ever want or need. Much more than that, and you maybe oughtn't be solo Things can still get a bit technical, and that's where maybe the Timbren makes you more confident. But I've taken a '73 Volkswagen Beatle and an '84 Pontiac Sunbird places you wouldn't believe. But when there's running water over a washout, I didn't just drive through it with great skill or anything. I freakin' stopped. got out. waded the obstacle so I knew what line to take, how slow or fast I needed to take it. Even that's not perfect, because fast-running water can shift submerged rocks. As long as you just have a handful of those kinds of obstacles, you're fine, because you can take your time and consider (or re-consider), but it's impractical for rougher terrain, in general. You're probably smart to go the way you have. A regular hard-sided off-road teardrop that's much good for what you want to do is pretty spendy.
"but honestly any trailer can go down forest road" Sure, with a good tow vehicle you can drag your Coleman down a rough forest road, and if you're lucky you won't damage it. But it will be very obvious that it isn't made for that purpose, unless the road is freshly graded or something.
Wendy, the gray baskets in the gally top shelf are those the medium size on Amazon? Additionally the felt trays in the upper cubby area in the cabin I noticed the gray and blue also all gray trays. Do these fit front to back in the cubby nicely, they are 10.5 inches deep. what does the camper look like underneath? is it skinned / coated / protected with anything? how many leaks did you have to repair on your first hiker? thanks.
We never had any leaks. It has a wood bottom that has a coating on it. You would have to contact Hiker Trailer to verify what they coat it with underneath.
Very basic starts around $8000 and goes up to mid $20,000 depending on model, size and options. You can get a quote on their website hikertrailers.com - by going to the order tab, just don't complete the order. It will show you a running total of your trailer as you select your options.
Hey guys rewatching your video. My trailer should be completed by the end of this month. Since Hiker doesn't locate the crossbars for my Yakama Topper I need to add the bars like you did for your shower. Im going to mount my Yakama tracks to the added bars and then add my Yakama racks so I can carry my Yakama products. I would like to know where you got the black cross bars? Thanks

People who only use them for sleeping tend to opt for no screen door, because they don't spend any daylight inside.

We have not had any issues with water leaks or mold. We do use a product called hypervent that we have below our mattress to decrease condensation.
You certainly do not travel light! But the trailer itself looks really cool.

I just checked. Our awning is about the same height as the AC unit if not an inch taller. Figure on 82" and you should be good.

I want the 5x10 for the size, but there are options I want that are only available on the offroad which is limited to 5x9.

We updated the hitch to a trimax adjustable and got the sag to within 1/2 inch to 1 inch.

Ground to bottom of the door is 25". Ground to awning about 74-75" - there are some various ways people have made mods to get the awning higher

Hiker doesn't do it from the factory but you can do it yourself if you want to.
I currently have a tenttrax trailer I tow with my Jeep TJ. I recently looked really hard at the hiker line up as I like the idea of being able to just pull up and your pretty much done. After seeing these in action I decided against them.
They aren't really able to actually go offroad. Now hear me out everyone's definition is different. I'm not into rock crawling but push my jeep to limit. These trailers simple will not be able to go every where a jeep can.
These are mostly forest road trailers. Even the small ones are too large for trails. So the are too large for trails but too small for amenities like toilet and shower. Every single person I have met who owns one thinks the go offroad but honestly any trailer can go down forest road. In the end just bought another trailer but it was full size
Yeah. You want the whole 9 yards, and probably want the trailer to have the same track width as your Jeep.
I think MOST people actually want something in the middle. A straight axle with tall wheels and tires and coil-over-shock suspension would go anywhere most of us would ever want or need. Much more than that, and you maybe oughtn't be solo Things can still get a bit technical, and that's where maybe the Timbren makes you more confident. But I've taken a '73 Volkswagen Beatle and an '84 Pontiac Sunbird places you wouldn't believe. But when there's running water over a washout, I didn't just drive through it with great skill or anything. I freakin' stopped. got out. waded the obstacle so I knew what line to take, how slow or fast I needed to take it. Even that's not perfect, because fast-running water can shift submerged rocks. As long as you just have a handful of those kinds of obstacles, you're fine, because you can take your time and consider (or re-consider), but it's impractical for rougher terrain, in general.
You're probably smart to go the way you have. A regular hard-sided off-road teardrop that's much good for what you want to do is pretty spendy.

Sure, with a good tow vehicle you can drag your Coleman down a rough forest road, and if you're lucky you won't damage it. But it will be very obvious that it isn't made for that purpose, unless the road is freshly graded or something.
Wendy, the gray baskets in the gally top shelf are those the medium size on Amazon? Additionally the felt trays in the upper cubby area in the cabin I noticed the gray and blue also all gray trays. Do these fit front to back in the cubby nicely, they are 10.5 inches deep. what does the camper look like underneath? is it skinned / coated / protected with anything? how many leaks did you have to repair on your first hiker? thanks.
We never had any leaks. It has a wood bottom that has a coating on it. You would have to contact Hiker Trailer to verify what they coat it with underneath.
How much do these trailers cost ?
Very basic starts around $8000 and goes up to mid $20,000 depending on model, size and options. You can get a quote on their website hikertrailers.com - by going to the order tab, just don't complete the order. It will show you a running total of your trailer as you select your options.
Hey guys rewatching your video. My trailer should be completed by the end of this month. Since Hiker doesn't locate the crossbars for my Yakama Topper I need to add the bars like you did for your shower. Im going to mount my Yakama tracks to the added bars and then add my Yakama racks so I can carry my Yakama products. I would like to know where you got the black cross bars? Thanks

That is a misconception for sure. We can easily sit up on ours and don't feel claustrophobic at all. But to each their own.

Additionally where the mattress is going to hit the screen door frame did you only trim the foam where the door frames are or the whole length of the mattress?
We trimmed just the one section that butts up to the doors.

Ah, I see you answered this in the video. I wonder if there are any good batteries that can run these.
You would need a really big battery to keep the air unit running for more than a couple hours.
