    Love the hum sound that begins at 2:15 reminds me of when I used to travel when I was younger, the hum gives me that warm and fuzzy reminder

    I'm a big fan of turboprop airliners. Much of the public is not observant, and aren't aware that the turboprop engine is a jet engine with a propeller attached. Much of the public is convinced that it's an old fashioned piston driven propeller engine. Observant people like myself, listen to the engine when it fires up, and can hear the whine of the jet engine that spins the prop. Turboprop engines are much more fuel efficiant than fan jet engines. I theory, an Airbus A-320 with four turboprops would use 40 percent less jet fuel than one with the two fan jet engines. The down side, 80 or 90 miles and hour slower. While that would make a significant difference on a cross country or overseas flight, it would only add approximately 15 or 20 minutes to the flight time on a flight from Charlotte NC to New York LaGuardia. I think it would be worth the extra 15 or 20 minutes of flight time to save jet fuel, reduce emissions, and curb global warming.

    Great video! In every Q400 takeoff video that I've seen on CZcams, the plane looks like it climbs like a 757! Really powerful!

      TheMquads The ATR has had better commercial success because they cost less to buy (5 ATRs = the cost of 4 Q400s), and they are cheaper to run.

    This is a best takeoff video with nice sound after rotating. My girlfriend Nee and son Rondale flew Nok Air Q400 3 times to Loei and to Don Muang. I haven't flown prop plane since 1994 from O'Hare to Peoria in Illinois on United Express EMB-120

      Agreed! Although 2:15 gives a nice sound as well with those blades chopping into the air. But at 2:40 with that rev-up and simultaneous harmonics of the inner turbine and the propeller are just amazing.

    Ahh, the soothing sounds of that 11.5 foot Dowdy propeller as it gets up to idle speed

  • @jackyclaiborne2142
    @jackyclaiborne2142 Před 6 lety

    They usually fire up the starboard engine first, and then the port engine. I really think that for one flight, they should fire up port first, and then starboard. Then for the next flight, starboard, and then port. That way, the engines would wear more evenly. During a fuel crisis, if they want to taxi on one engine, I favor the "POSH" rule, "port out, starboard home." That means, taxi out on port, taxi in on starboard. They let the engines run in low idle for a couple of minutes, but when they are spooled up to high idle, that's when the "box fan" sound of the props is added to the whine of the jet engines. The prop blades become virtually invisible.
    Much of the public is convinced that the turboprop engine is a turbocharged piston driven propeller engine, rather than a jet propeller engine. That's how the word "Turboprop" fools them. A good way to educate the public that a turboprop engine is indeed a jet propeller engine, is to paint in big letters "PROP JET" on both sides of the engine cowels. Also, if you listen to those engines as they fire up, you can hear the whine of the jet engines that are behind those propellers. I especially love it when the engines go into high idle. That's when the props begin to make that "box fan" sound, which is added to the whine of the jet engines. In takeoff, when the props are rotated at approximately 1,500 RPM, they make what I like to call the "Bumblebee" sound. That's the bass hum and vibration that you get inside the cabin, which I think makes takeoffs more exhilarating in prop planes than pure jet planes. Unlike many people, I am a big fan of turboprop airliners. I personally wish that the Airbus A-320, and the Boeing 737, had four turboprops instead of the two big fan jet engines. Though about 80 or 90 miles an hour slower, it would save a lot of jet fuel if such turboprop airliners were used on most domestic flights, like from Charlotte NC to New York LaGuardia. I really think that pure jet aircraft should be used solely for coast to coast, or overseas flights.
