    the MLP fandom introduced me to sex and porn at a VERY young age, which ended up seriously harming me. I was a victim of rape at a young age, but when it happened, I already knew about sex because of MLP NSFW content. I thought that what I experienced was just what was supposed to happen, so I felt proud of it, even though I hated every second of what happened. I felt so mature. I wasn't even ten. I've never been able to fully cope with what I experienced because of the way my mind has learned about sex. I got near no sex-ed in school, everything I knew about sex until I was fifteen, I had learned through MLP porn. I was offering myself to predators online for NSFW roleplays because I thought that it made me more mature. I wish I had more supervision back then. Parents, siblings, anyone at all, please, let's protect kids from this kind of shit.

    I just wanted to say that, for people who saw the gore or sexualised content and then ended up consuming more (either more of MLP or of NSFW or gore content in general), and they didn't understand why they did that - it's your brain trying to take control of what it is seeing or experiencing. If you know that it will be shown to you, no matter what you may try to do to prevent it, it will try to make you seek it out, because now *you* are the one in control of what you're seeing, *you* are the one looking it up. This is not intended to go "oh well, you were looking it up", not at all, I just wanted to let people know that it was just *your brain trying to protect you* . The brains reactions to trauma is not something that is convenient, nor something that will make sense, but it was just your brain trying to protect you; trying to give you some semblance of control that was taken from you as an attempt to lessen the blow.
    My experiences with the Brony fandom is rather different to the majority of other people who were young during the fandom's peak - for me, I was introduced to the fandom by an older family member as a method to desensitize me to sexual topics (the same was done to me via adult shows like Family Guy and American Dad), it will not take a genius to figure out why. I don't want to put the blame entirely on the fandom for that, since it was simply weaponised by someone with malicious intent, but it still does apply. I just wanted to say something so that people may feel less alone, or may blame themselves a little less.

    What angers me about Bronies is, they usurped something intended for little girls and made it into being all about them; a child innocently searching for My Little Pony content and coming across something that traumatizes them. On top of that, it was because of their complaints about the toys having real hair (so little girls could brush/braid it) into being more of an action figure with solid manes. Like they started to cater more about the Bronies versus children that the show was intended for. I’ve heard that they were assholes to people at conventions, too. Like the audacity to insert yourself into something you perhaps originally mocked and wasn’t even made for you, and then being a dick and potentially traumatizing kids in the process.

    • @giggig6703
      @giggig6703 Před 5 měsíci +7

      Where did you hear about the figures not having real hair later on?
      And bronies just saw a Tv show and thought was pretty good for a little girls cartoon, I don’t think it’s their fault that Google had it’s flaws when it came to image collecting.

    • @FembotFangirl4992
      @FembotFangirl4992 Před 2 měsíci +11

      Not to mention there would be a later episode in the show that would entirely cater to fandom in-jokes and headcanons, the episode itself is very innocent but it really shows how much control bronies had with the show despite not being directly involved with MLP's creations. Also to correct you as a MLP toy fanatic they didn't entirely change the G4 ponies to have solid plastic manes but they made some separate toylines that were more like action figures that do have solid manes.
      I remember watching this one video where a group of bronies were at Toys R Us and thr guy filming was like "NoBoDy WaNtS tO bUy tHiS oThEr GiRlY cRaP oN sHeLvEs ThEy OnLy WaNt PoNiEs FoR rEaL mEn NoT fOr LiTtLe GiRlS tHaT dOnT hAvE tHeIr OwN mOnEy" the 0 self awareness and elitism made me cringe HARD, the elitist bronies who would always complain and single out the targeted demographic for MLP will always bother me.

    About time someone actually stood up and talked about how this used to be completely ok when it should have never been.

      This was never ok, impressionable kids just dug around and found things, CZcams was never inherently for children, it was just a place to upload videos.
      That’s where all the scary stuff came from, they were attempts at creepy pastas, art projects and indie films, or they were just there. (uploaded by ghosts ooooh 👻)

      I'm sorry, but the 'grooming' you speak of is a ridiculous tall tale because it is something that required effort to find.
      There are much more degenerate topics required to graduate that are forced on children.
      The VAST majority of subjects addressed by the show are wholesome in nature.
      It is up to parents to work to be a part of their children's lives, and to prevent access to inappropriate content.
      "Well how should they do that?"
      Be INVOLVED in your children's lives and education! They are YOUR children, not anybody else's! Don't just shrug your shoulders and say "well, they were going to find our one way or another..." THIS IS YOUR CHILD! You have control over their lives and what they learn!

    • @geeeltee
      @geeeltee Před rokem +10

      @@thetinpin To clarify, i'm using the term "grooming" in it's original context, as in children being apart of forums and interacting with adults with ulterior motives. There are plenty of documented instances (especially from MLP-focused CZcamsrs) engaging inappropriately with their young audience.
      Watching the show or being apart of its online communities as a minor isn't inherently a problem, as I'm sure that most kids at the time had a fine experience. However, the amount of NSFW content readily available and normalized within these spaces increased the potential danger for these children, as pointed out in the video.
      I agree, it is the parents responsibility to monitor their kid' online activity, but internet culture moves so fast that it is unrealistic to expect the late Gen X parents of 10 years ago to catch everything.

    I think the weirdest thing for me was just how much quality was put into the R34 for this show. Like there was this brief period of time where Pony Porn was just really weirdly high quality, not in the “wow that’s hot” kind of way, but more in the “the drawing itself is really well done” kind of way. Just peg it on the folks who had way too much money, and the Hentai artists who would draw literally anything you want if you paid for it.
    I think the worst that ever happened to me back when I was a brony was that the cupcakes story genuinely turned me off of cupcakes and cake in general. Like even today if there’s cake at an event or something I won’t eat it more often than not.
    Obviously this isn’t the first time this has happened to shows intended for younger audiences, I still remember my first introduction to internet porn was at like 7 years old when I saw Zone’s Teen Titans toon with Raven getting tentacle’d just randomly browsing Newgrounds one day, but now I realise how genuinely out of hand it got with My Little Pony in particular.

    I think the most interesting use of the "Cupcakes" stuff I've seen was in a crossover fanfic between MLP and _Silent Hill_ of all things.
    It had Pinkie being drawn into Silent Hill due to a repressed trauma (standard Silent Hill fare), with Cupcakes Pinkie as one of the monsters for her to overcome. There was even a few "Alternate Bad Ending" extra chapters at the end, one of which where Cupcakes Pinkie _killed_ the regular one and took over her body, thus waking up and preparing to begin the actual Cupcakes story.
    Cupcakes makes a _lot_ more sense as a bad ending of an MLP/Silent Hill crossover than it does as a straight up MLP fanfic.

    The chapter “Effects on the Brain” honestly broke me. I had to keep on pausing the video just to process all the information because from my own experience, everything you said was true. Although it wasn’t MLP porn that I saw, it was Bluey porn. Same shit, same result, sexualizing characters from a kids show, It’s worst given the fact that Bluey was at the time 6, she, her sister, cousins, and friends are all minors (she’s 7 now, but still, Bluey is a CHILD).
    I was searching fanart of my favorite character Rusty, one of Bluey’s friends and classmates. I scrolled and scrolled and accidentally discovered Bluey NSFW from an artist by the name of Polygon 5. This artist made artwork called “Bluey’s Fantasies” featuring Bluey doing *things* with her father Bandit, her little sister Bingo also doing *things* with Bandit, their cousin Socks doing *things* with Uncle Stripe (her father, Bluey and Bingo’s Uncle) and Lucky, Bluey’s friend and neighbor, letting Bluey do *things* to him. It was completely uncensored. I was only 12, I just got my phone for my birthday too.
    I could never see my favorite show again, not to mention that it made me extremely paranoid of sexual themes, sexual education, and just sex in general. But what really baffles me looking back is that despite my extreme anxiety of sex, I still wants to search Bluey NSFW. I liked Bluey pornography because it was a pleasure I could enjoy by myself without having to be judged. It was so bad I actually DREW a ton of Bluey NSFW, and my I remind you that Bluey, her sister, cousins AND friends are all minors from 1-7 years old.
    At the time I never really knew much about “child pornography” and thought that since a lot of NSFW artists drew Bluey and her friends and family I’m extremely sexual ways that drawing children characters was “normal” which looking back on this is something I DEEPLY regret. Is something that bothers me so so so much to this day.
    On top of that, my mom tends to not sugar coat things when it came to sex since like I said, I was 12 so therefore I’m old enough to know, I told her that I was pretty uncomfortable about learning about sexual stuff and maybe I could learn about it when I’m in high school. However, it was often seen was childish and that I was being over dramatic and that I would grow out I of it. *But I never did.*
    Now knowing that I had literally no one to talk about how sensitive I was about this because I way too uncomfortable to even bring up this topic of sex, I kept everything to myself. I ended up loosing a lot of friends in middle school, I felt like an outcast. By the time I was old enough to take sex edu, I hating myself deeply, I hated how I could no longer preserve my innocence, I hated how puberty is a thing, and I hated how it was in an environment I didn’t feel safe in. I hated myself so badly, I was 14 at the time.
    I don’t behave like this anymore, I’ve come to except that sex education is VERY important, this is how babies are made, puberty is nothing to be ashamed of, and that drawing porn of children is wrong. If I ever draw NSFW content, I would do it as an adult *responsibly* I’m glad I’ve left my paranoia of sex phase, but I feel like if I wasn’t introduced to sexual stuff at a young age, I wouldn’t have felt so petrified of the fact that sex exists. It’s honestly really sad, I was just a kid, and even thought this awful phase of mine lasted for 2-3 years, it felt like forever. I never thought my pre-teen and early teen years would end up this way, it’s heartbreaking to look back on.
    It makes me sick to my stomach how parents nowadays don’t give a damn about this new generation, I give you not I swear I’ve seen CZcamsrs from 9-14 years old saying how they wanted to kill themselves, minors drawing porn of minors (through their avatars btw) and although these kids and teens maybe overreacting and not truly understanding how wrong it really is to tell your child audience that you want to commit suicide or that drawing porn at the age of 9 is very abnormal, you can’t put the blame on them. It’s the content they watch and their irresponsible parents.

Hell, some of my favorite characters I can't even look up images on popular search engines because of the kind of artwork made for them appearing on the top results. I just came back to this video after experiencing similar things as Lilith. I’m not exactly sure what started it, but a few days ago, I started getting really bad compulsions/urges to look up really weird/gross stuff on the internet. No, I don’t enjoy it. It gives me a horrible feeling of discomfort everytime I do it, but the anxiety is even worse when I try to ignore it. I’ve had to go back to therapy for it. I think a lot of people seriously misjudge how dangerous the internet can be and there seriously needs to be better control to keep kids from seeing this kind of stuff.

    At 18, I was part of the brony community--until it started becoming the Brony TM community, and while I initially laughed at some of the parodies and that it really started to disturb me somewhat that people were so utterly open with their dark/NSFW takes in child-friendly spaces. There's a reason fandoms have always tried to have ratings and sections for adult content, and I think part of the reason there was such a strong backlash against MLP fandom WAS an inability to keep that content out of spaces where children could easily see it. I loved all kinds of macabre horror content back then, but even at 18 I understood that that stuff didn't belong where children could get easy access to it.

    • @faceless_zer0
      @faceless_zer0 Před rokem +18

      I remember when I was WAY younger like 8-11 years old, I used to get genuinely ANGRY at some of the "anti-bronies" as some people called them or those that might've shown any negativity towards the fanbase itself, I almost took it as an attack on MLP itself at first cause some of the edgier ones would talk about killing off the fictional characters to probably provoke a reaction from people or being a total unlikable dickwad in the comments.
      But looking at some of this stuff now and reflecting on it, especially as an older person, especially if you know there's other haters or people who dislike the show out there are actually more sane than the ones I listed, I can kind of genuinely understand where most of them would actually be coming from now, and I seem to understand their motives for why they might've hated the brony community so much. I honestly wouldn't hold it against them for being that way at this point, especially knowing all the children in the fandom that might've had to see the most depraved shit because of some of those people.
      I remember literally coming across a bunch of fetish stuff as a child and actual prawnography (saying that in case YT doesn't take kindly to it), and I remember it messing with my mind for a while after that. So I can understand a lot of people being angry, cause of that. The horror aspects of the fandom still screwed with me a tiny bit though obviously and scared me for years cause I was so young, but I'd definitely say the explicit stuff was worse for me, especially since I was actively consuming the macabre content more willingly in a way also.

    I don't even know why I did that thing in the Derpy Nyan Nyan video, maybe the nature of the fandom influenced me too, I was fairly young when I joined it. That sort of thing was everywhere, and mine seemed tame by comparison.
    And it sucks, what I enjoy making is cute wholesome stuff, I want to make people's days better with my art, but then CZcams changed its algorithm and screwed over animators. Like many others I started a Patreon, but I barely got any support there until I started doing nsfw like everyone else. Now I can't make totally safe works anymore, or I risk people looking around expecting more like it and finding nsfw instead, so I need to at least make them suggestive as a sort of warning to push people away.
    That's why I became so inactive on CZcams, I hate feeling like I have to do that and be part of the problem, so I usually go months or even a year or more between uploads.

    I joined the fandom in high school, when I was already a very traumatized individual. I feel like it's important to highlight that there Were people talking about the issues at the time. There was a widespread organized effort among the teenagers and adults in the fandom to try to scrub through google safe search and report adult content, named Safe Search Wrap-Up after the "Winter Wrap-Up" song from the show. After the movement gained significant traction, nsfw content was virtually nonexistent on safe search. Every time I came across nsfw or adult content, I did my part and put the report in the system. Having grown up on a lot of these, I think it's what had my brain mature way faster than most people (probably also just the way I think had an effect on maturity of my brain, times got dark in my own head) and to me, the show and fandom is what got me into drawing.
    It wasn't brought up in this video, but MLP Speedpaints were a BIG thing that I grew up on, and led me down a digital art rabbit hole of MLP stuff. Having seen really gorey speedpaints, I became numb to seeing *drawn* gore. I even wanted to draw it all the time. I was so desensitized, if it wasn't gorey I wasn't really interested, I would find anyway I could to draw mlp gore, or rp really dark stuff (Roblox, PonyTown, Discord, etc.).
    I won't ever regret it, cause I love drawing and plan on it being my job, and I occasionally draw gore (not with ponies, my own characters) but I was just.. so obsessed and desensitized(still am), it was not healthy. I still go listen/read some of those stories and speedpaints now because I do very much enjoy them still, and still watch the really good not gorey/sexual YT series like RDP/MAS.
    I won't ever defend the videos not having warnings, but I don't think I will regret watching it cause I wouldn't be where I am now without it.
    TLDR: I grew up on the gorey side of MLP, mostly speedpaints, became desensitized and obsessed, but it made me start drawing, and I wouldn't be who I am today without those vids 👍

    I never really felt too comfortable talking about this because I just turned 14 last month. I probably shouldn't have said my age, but I just want to emphasize how young I was and still am when I was exposed to this. In the beginning of the video, you mentioned “inflation.”
    Whenever there’s something inflation-related, I feel very distraught. When I was about 6 or 7 years old, I did things to my body that no child should ever do to themself. The only thing I’ll tell you is that it involved bicycle pumps. Being the naïve kid I once was, I attempted to replicate the actions depicted by the characters in the media I saw, whether it be pictures or videos.
    As weird and unheard of as character inflation is, it really, really changed the way I think, and it really hurt me in many ways. I even get slightly triggered when I see bicycle pumps, or pumps that inflate sports balls. I still have the same bike pump I used and it’s in a tool shed outside. One time, I tried getting a shovel from the same shed, but I saw the pump, and I stayed as far away from it as possible.
    Other than my brain changing from it, it affected the way I see my comfort characters. Whenever I see inflation-related content of my comfort character, I go into my bedroom and cry. It might sound pathetic and stupid, but like I said before, it really changed my life, and in a terrible way.
    Please, for the love of God (or whoever you believe in), STAY SAFE ON THE INTERNET. If you ever have children, KEEP THEM SAFE. I would watch the gore videos constantly. I led me to get more into Creepypasta and developing an unhealthy obsession with things that I really should not of been getting into at that age. I also saw some of the NSFW and, like Lilith, I also began to get an addiction to that type of content. It affected me in real life situations at the time. It also led me to learn way more about that type of stuff WAY too early.
    I have a much better outlook on things now. I love horror and gore but understand there is a limit and I have a much healthier relationship with NSFW and that type of content in general.
    Although the Brony/MLP Fandom did lead to me having positives in my life (such as my hobbies, interests, relationships with some content, and my art) it also made me feel unsafe and cautious of groups online. I was always afraid something I used to cope would be sexualized to heck. I was always afraid a fun, break from stress show would turn into a monsters playground. As a 12-year-old (in 2012-2013 -- which was the height of the fandom), I had traumatizing experiences with this fandom that has affected me to this day. I stumbled upon these things while innocently browsing the web, and what started as a harmless curiosity soon turned into a nightmare.
    This group was filled with individuals who held extremist beliefs in violence, sex, and more, and engaged in hateful and discriminatory behavior. As a young and impressionable person, I was deeply affected by the negativity and hostility I encountered there. The experiences I had with this group led me down some dark paths, and I struggled with anxiety and fear for years afterwards. Some after effects of this was: desensitized to p0rn, violence, and other malfeasance's. I also had outbursts of anger that manifested in various things which included even gaining unauthorized admission to some bronie's fanfiction account in protest.
    The trauma I experienced also affected my relationships with other people. I found it hard to trust others, and I was always on edge, waiting for someone to hurt me or let me down. Even now, years later, I struggle with these feelings and find it hard to form close relationships with others. I am into my twenties now, and I am still apprehensive of forming an intimate relationship because of the distrust and scars. I view sex very differently now, because of some of the despicable behavior that I saw people doing and affecting other with (Luckly I never was preyed upon or involved).
    Bottom line, please for the love of God, don't let Gen Alpha near this. This must be monitored better to try to save the next generation (doesn't seem that way for now), and quite frankly, even at 18, they shouldn't see half the stuff I did.

      @@itscc2004 It was essentially the gore that was enticing me back then in a way I could not understand. I wasn't in the best terms in my life then, so I found an escape through this. However, some content like the Rarity webcomic, Cupcakes, and even later (unrelated) things like Battington VHS videos really started to have affect on me over time. It kind of sucks that I am in an IT job which is pretty isolating, so even as an adult, I am removed socially and mentally. I don't watch this stuff nearly as much as I used to (some content I never went back to), but I'm kind of in a state of self reflection on where I am at in life, where the world is going, and what I am going to do with the next 4 decades of my existence.

    I remember being only around the age of 6-10 during all of this happing and i remember watching so many of these messed up videos. Never realizing the effects it could of had on me or even that it was bad for me, My parents were overworked and dealing with a lot more then to watch my every move on the internet, But i wish they did because watching these videos bring back memories which have been buried deep in my brain, It even has made realize how it shapped me as a soon to be young adult but thank you for talking about this

    I was in college when i was first exposed to bronies. At the time, I was aware of the show because my girlfriend's younger sister watched it. A couple guys that lived in my building fit the negative stereotypes perfectly. After hearing some of them talk about 'Princes Molestia' I felt the need to intervene if ever saw anyone of them near small children.

    For that warning point: a lot of kids ignore warnings anyway, so I think it would have been best if the videos were never made at all, or at the very least heavily restricted to the point that no kid could ever possibly come across it (I say "at the very least" because I'm not sure how that would be possible).
