The last time I loaned a guy my knife, I caught him using it to scrape off the battery terminals on his car. That was 45 years ago. I’m not bitter.

I use to judge the guys that EDC backpacks full of gear until I got stuck in the fires in Southern California in 2007. I had a pack in my car for emergencies but my car was a mile away from me and the fire department was keeping us to one section of the property and I was there for a couple of hours before we got any sort of supplies, water, food, etc. Ever since then Ive been grateful for expanding my selection of stuff. I usually keep it in my vehicle unless I am going to be out for a while say going to a store or something but if Im going for a hike, walking around downtown, doing some photography, or any distance from my vehicle then its on my back. A few times since then I have revised, removed and changed what I carry but I still carry the basics, knives, lights, first aid, water, entertainment, back up battery, sos / satelite messenger, fire implements, notepads, pens, rain jacket, gloves, beanie, etc. I live in an area where the weather changes by the minute sometimes and just having a pack with a rain jacket stuffed in it has been pulled out dozens of times.

    Great review!
As I get older (everyone has this problem) I got to realize that weight is a huge consideration for not only my EDC but also my bug-out (BOB) bag.
I had to rethink everything as a result.
How to squeeze functionality, quality and light weight into a small bag with the ability to repurpose any and all items at any time. was a challenge with the "Two is one, one is none" mindset.
Decades ago, I used an old medium framed ALICE pack and load it with anything I saw laying around. One day I was rearranging my room, grabbed that pack and jeez, I could barely lift it up to move it let alone wear it to actually bug-out!
It must have weighed over 50 pounds easy!
That's when I realized to thing "light" but hand select useful items that I actually found here on CZcams survival channels by guys that were Army Rangers, Green Beret and SAS survival guys in their former lives.
I was in the military myself so I naturally thought I had all the right stuff.
Keep in mind that as the years go by, technology changes everything and we get older less likely to schlep around a heavy pack!
Well, I finally put together a BOB that I could live with but I'm constantly revising that pack.
After years of reviewing everything from "BOB" to "return home bag" to "EDC" to "Urban Carry Bag" and all the others, I asked myself why do I need all those bags?
So, my solution was a 72 hour BOB, a "Vanquest Envoy 13 Gen 4" for my "EDC" needs (from a 21L Jansport and Vanquest Mobious bag (which I use as a back-up bag for emergency with all my Communications gear in it).
I use a large plastic tub with all my extra gear that I dumped into it from all the other bags I had and call it the "mother ship" that I use to restock my other bags depending on the mission.
I believe in redundancy and the "two-is-one, one-is-none" theory so I maintain duplication.
One thing I discovered and will share with you is to get two identical police scanners (Bearcat or Uniden) which each are under $100.00 and put one in each bag (EDC and BOB).
Make sure they are identical models so that you can easily remember the usage for each since they are the same.
I made the expensive mistake o getting two different brand radios I bought two years apart and believe me, each one has it's own navigation quirks, so to keep it simple, just get two of the same model.
ope this was useful to you.
Remember, keep it light, you'll be glad you did!

Just look to your own needs and wants rather than disrespecting a guy who is sharing knowledge of the practical items he find useful for his life.

The tape measure is a good idea as it can be useful whenever one is trying to fabricate things in the field or you're considering buying a bag or container and want to know if your gear or some specific item will fit in it. Or you might need to measure distances between holes, notches or fasteners such as nails or screws. Easier to measure than buy something and have to return it, look for another item or screw up a project.Walmart sells some zipper pouches that are fairly sturdy or I find them at thrift stores. I like the idea of using them to organize items rather than Ziplock bags, which are great, but eventually fail to remain in good shape.

This is a great video! Now I would say that I've been carrying my REI trail 25 as a normal everyday carry bag with 3 yards or elastic cord (bought from fabric store). Using a shoelacing method with tying a fisherman's knot, I get asked by a people who does fishing on how I am so fast when it comes to packing my bag so adaptable and mobile. So I always have the answer of "use what you know now to advance what you can upgrade your mind to."
So I've been rocking this edc pack since the christmas last year. I promised myself this would be the only edc pack that I would ever have because many of the backpacks I bought were mostly from dollar store. Some of them are from the qualiity outdoor brands like Osprey and REI brands. But I still adapted to what I need but still having that mentality of what I want in my bag to have. But survival like fine arts is how you understand yourself from any given environment. Artist would look for features externally than internally in survival point of view. Artist sees to think, survival has every senses. Therfore even if I'm not situationally aware, I could be spatially aware.
Tip, pack your edc bag and both the bug out bag about 50-80% filled so that way if you need to collect resources when you travel, you know you have many space to collect fire making materials and other sources from going to point A-B. It is also recommended to do this if you are traveling nationally and you have to buy all of those souvenirs when you get back.

More like a GHB. Two reasons why you carry a tablet/laptop with you daily:

For daily carry, I use the Maxpedition Chubby with a shoulder strap. Just enough room for a secondary pistol, usually an FNX40, a secondary knife, usually a Spyderco Endura, couple mags, and everything that won't fit in my pockets, lighter, extra pens, note pad, and first aid supplies. A lot of similarities between my EDC and yours... Only thing I would say, is that while you seem to want to prepare for less likely but still possible scenarios (as do I) your cash on hand doesn't seem to reflect the same mindset. There are TONS of scenarios where $50 cash just ain't gonna cut it...

I’ve been looking at various bags to upgrade my Deuter ac lite 22 (nice mesh back panel in the summer ) but am coming to the conclusion perhaps the omm classic 32 is the best all round backpack because it’s light around half most others I’ve looked at eg covrt18 , north face recon etc.. I could always add an admin bag when needed but add and take away stuff , oh an the inner duomat padding doubles as emergency sleeping /sitting mat , they do a phantom 25 which is ultra light and the. There is the pod add in options which seem to me to make these an interesting option , what do people think? And perhaps a waterproof cover :)

Great video, as usual. Love your content. I live south of Denver so I can relate to some of your specific gear for the Rockies. As for a pack, I just started using the 511 All Hazards Nitro Backpack 21L . I has a lot of internal places to organize my gear. It does not have side water pouches but 511 carries external pouches of various size. I use a 40oz. Klean Kanteen bottle and it fits in the pouch. I also use a Ka Bar Globetrotter. It’s a perfect size for my EDC bag. Once again, thanks for the great video.

Look into Road ID for identification. It’s a very comfortable rubber bracelet with as much info as you want to add. I have my wife’s name and phone number as well as my medications listed on mine. I have heart issues that require me to wear an ID bracelet at all times. It’s light and super comfortable to wear and great for biking, hiking etc.

Great video, I like some of the gear you carry around as some people on here are saying that's a GH bag or even a bug out bag, my motto is...better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. My disappointment is you didnt give honorable mention to the Rush 12 or Rush 24. I rock the Rush 12 bag as my EDC bag for work and when I am not working, I will sometimes take along my Rush Moab 10 sling bag. 5.11 does make top notch bags as I have had my Rush 12 several years and it still handles and performs as if I just bought it two weeks ago. I worked as a first responder for nearly 17 years, so having certain things on my person or close at hand is a must for me. You didnt mention an EDC or a carry conceal firearm but I guess not everyone can get one and I am sure you have your reasons, I carry conceal a Glock 19 cause it's what works best for me, not a Glock fanboy here, it's just a firearm that works better for me then others. Again, very good video and stay safe out there in Denver....👍👍
Update:I ended up purchasing a Moab 6 today (6-29-2019) to try out. Hell I get it off a guy here locally selling it for $30 and it looks barely used, guy said he used it three times, threw it in the closet. I am not too big a fan of the Moab bags but I got the Moab 10 used, practically brand new, even smelled brand new for $60 when brand new $99.just recently as well. My only gripe with the Moab bags is the little Comm pouch needs updating. No cellphone of today (2019) will fit in it and who uses an ipod anymore...other then that great bags and I couldnt pass on their selling used prices...👍👍
