Really high quality content. It doesnt sound like you know what your talking about when it comes to some of the gear, i would get more experience with the gear and the pack in general. Also try do an over night test with the bag to see if it meets all your needs. I personally wouldn't have 2 full rolles of tape plus so many zip ties and glue, they are repair items and shouldn't be neededing very much of them for 72h. I would also like to point out that you will probably be quite cold at night with your shelter setup. Think about adding some emergency blankets or a emergency bivvi, or even better a light weight sleeping bag. Good video but not such good setup for a realistic situation

Cool video. Lot of good stuff in there but I'd strongly argue that you will want to add wet wipes. They are worth their weight in gold when out in the wild for longer stretches. Done a few week+ maneuvers and they are just pure gold. Also, to give yourself the best chances possible; please take the tourniquet OUT in the plastic. Because of how fast you might need it, you don't want to **** around with unpacking it when you might be dealing with a broken arm and only have one hand to break into that plastic. If you need to put it on in under 45seconds you don't want to mess with unpacking it. Stay safe! Cheers.

I recommend carrying an entire ROLL of fishing line as well as having a few hooks in your kit! Besides being able to fish for food you can do a million different things with fishing like to hunt(trap an animal) make an early warning system for approaching bears or people in your camp site. Tie logs together and make a shelter off the ground or even booby traps. There’s still a ton more you can do

My guy has 3 kinds of superglue but no bic lighter... Instead of imagining what you would want, go on a few weekend trips and you will end up with a pretty good idea of what you'll actually need. The best way to do this is to write down everything you didn't use during a trip. If you didn't need it a few times or you didn't even come close to using it then chuck it. Vise versa for things to add.

Suggestion: really consider reducing the weight for a 72 hour kit. If you need to travel long distances weight makes a huge differences and there's a lot of items that you could get away with a lot less of, like the duct tape, tp, packaging, chap stick, etc. Also lighter weight options for essentials like fire starting, bags, hygiene, etc. Just my .02, everyone's situation is different! Good luck on your journey, and great job with the video, keep them coming!

  • @BorealEDC
    @BorealEDC Před 6 měsíci

Great video, it makes for a good reference point to build a kit. As a knife guy though, I'd recommend a better fixed blade. Those Gerber's don't hold up and you'll constantly be sharpening it, so you'll have to add a good pocket sharpener to that kit. I recommend a better knife like the Cold Steel SRK in 3V, Falkniven A1, ZT 0006, Bark River Bravo series, Demko Free Reign in Magnacut (ignore the aus10), TRC Apocalypse or South Pole, Cold Steel Master Hunter. Those are fool-proof, rock steady options.

MIRA safety are pretty much the gold standard in gas masks! Well done on a storage bag for the mask. Think about investing in a proper folding saw such as Bahco or Silky, the wire saw is labour intensive whereas the folding saws cut branches like a hot knife through butter!

As an alternative pack compared to what most everyone else uses, that's a very nice and interesting "grayman" pack. Only thing I was disappointed not to see in there as no shelter of any kind. With it being a clam shell, you could simply put basically any kind of tarp in between the 2 halves. Gold Armour has "for the price" a great 10x10 that you can put in most any kind of configuration.

    • @999torres

It didn't look like it. So if it's no more than a waterproof blanket, I would want something a little more to go over it. Better safe that sorry.

Two is one, one is none. You MUST have two or more ways to make fire, purify water, and cut things.

the mylar blanket thing aint waf, I promise you. You can squat/kneel sit on part of it, wrap the rest around you and it'll save you from, cold/wind rain for 2-3 hours, Then youll collapse. it's worthless when (not if) you have to lay down What you need, really badly, is a 1 b net hammock, the 1.5 lb XL size reflective tyvek bivy, $95 from 2GoSystems, NOT the regular size! it's too small for any but little Asian men.. You need to make a plastic "envelope" to put aorund that bivy, cause it's not worth much without one. Make it out of a couple of heavy duty 55 gallon drum liners, taped together and also tape in a full length sleeping bag zipper. You'l find this combo to be quite amazing, Pull the hammock and a ridgline thru the bivy, and close off the ends. Pull another ridgeline thru JUST the envelope, so that the envelope does not touch the bivy anywhere.
There can be no air-leaks, or this system wont work. So use a light to look for pinholes. and tape them shut. If it's cold, set the hammock 6" off of the ground, with you in it and kick debris under it. It's important to stop the flow of air under you. It's also important to not let the bivy touch you anywhere and to keep your face out of the bivy. With just cammies, balaclava, gloves, unlaced shoes, 3 pairs of sock liners, and shemagh, this set up will let you sleep just fine in wind and rain at 40F.
If you'll add a couple of 1/4 lb each full body bugent 'suits' from Amazon ($30 each) and a pair of their 1/2 lb each "cut-leaf" type of camo nets, same price, you can sleep fine at 34F, in wind and rain. What you do is wrap the camo nets around yourself, in between the bugnet suits, all of this worn as longjohns. I wear Wiggy's net longjohns to do this. You can add another 10F degrees of warmth by putting dry debris between the bugnet suits and under the wraps of the camo nets (this time outside of your cammies) Since you need the hammock, bugnet suits bivy/canopy, gloves, shemagh, sock liners, and camo nets at any temps, this is VERY little extra bulk and weight to handle a lot of cold weather.
You can gain 10F more degees of warmth if you have enough dry debris to stuff between the bivy and the "envelope", but that's a LOT of debris (not portable). Same thing can be done by using a discrete Dakota fire pit to heat up water or rocks, and put those items inside of the foot box of your bivy. They stay warm 2-3 hours, then you have to repeat.
Sedatives, pain killers, "go" aod "no go" pills, antibiotics, Ace knee wrap, sleep-mask, earplugs, stimulants, anti-inflammatories have almost no bulk or weight and are PRICELESS aids in a crisis, guys.
The morning sun or the one way projected heat of a Siberian fire lay can be "aimed" at a 3x4 ft oval of clear PEVA shower curtain {wallys) that is taped over the open end of your bivy and gain you up to 20 F degrees for 2-3 hours. So this kit is easily modfied to handle TRULY cold situations. There's a discrete way to dry out the body-amount of wet debris in one night, and a way to (not discrete) dry out the big amount of wet debris. Once it's below 10F (especially at night) having an open fire is no big risk, as long as you are GONE from that area by dawn'". By not having to have another such fire, the large amount of debris can be a life-safer.
I use both a 1 lb buttpaack and a 1.5 lb daypack. I empty them out, stuff them with debris and use them as sleeping-pads (normally, up in the hammock) I had to add a much wider, stiffer belt to the buttpack. My spare t-shirt and boxer shorts are my hip pads. My spare socks are my shoulder pads.

A little tip for you, loose the toilet paper, instead replace it with unsented wet wipes. Not only are you able to use it as toilet paper but you can also wipe your hot spots if you're in a pinch. A little infantry tidbit for ya

From a prepper’s perspective: the first thing I would do is add some higher calorie foods - sugar is good for a short term energy burst but if thats what you are carrying it for i would recommend some instant coffee or caffeine pills for that instead. I would instead carry trail mix, beef jerky, and other more calorically rich and higher nutrient snacks, this will keep you going for much longer than the sweets. Carrying more food id especially important if you live in a more urban area. Also, if you have the budget I would highly recommend getting the mountain house brand freeze dried meals instead, they usually have about a 25 year shelf life. I would also break down that $100 bill into 20s 10s 5s and 1s so you can more easily have exact change for things. Also take your duck tape and wrap only about a quarter of it onto an old gift card or something like that. It will make it a lot less bulky and a lot lighter. You don’t really need that much duck tape in a pack like this. Also, if you take everything out of its packaging, it will make things a lot less bulky and lighter as well. I saw another comment about this too. Lastly Iraq I recommend switching your double walled insulated water bottle and that baking tin for a single walled stainless steel bottle and nesting cup. This makes your cooking situation a lot easier. This is a fantastically well put together video overall though! As soon as I came across this video, I hit the subscribe button!

I would ditch that roll of duct tape for a roll of gorilla tape. Ive used so many different types of duct tape in many different environments (extreme cold, wet, extreme hot, wind, etc.) and gorilla tape is the only tape that has proven its worth.

if you put more tban 15 lbs in any pack that lacks a wide, stiff hip belt, hip pads and a frame, it will eat your LUNCH before you've lugged it even 5 miles, and even less if you'te fighting brush, mud, snow, hills. Use SOMETHING to make the weight shift onto your hips and get pads between the hip belt and your hips, or you'll regret it, I promise you!

Loved the video but one thing is bothering me. On the Get Home Alive Kit you have the TQ on the outside of the bag for quick access, however it appears to still be in the plastic that it came in which nullifies that. Brand new TQ's are not properly setup for quick use, and so in the event that you actually need to use it you'll waste time getting it out of the packaging and properly setting it up.

You need some gold and silver coins, not USD paper, if what you're preparing for would occur. All the best from Switzerland
