Why Barriss Offee Aged So Fast in Tales of the Empire

- Why did Barriss Offee age so much between her second and third shorts in Tales of the Empire? The Fourth Sister barely seemed to age at all, but Barriss is looking far more wisened. At the end of the short Realization, she promises not to let the Jedi die. At the start of The Way Out, she is referred to as the Healer. She must have done something to earn that reputation. My current guess is that she has been using her own life energy to heal others through the Force. Rey describes Force healing as exactly that. Giving some of your own life or Force energy to another. And we saw Ben Solo give so much of himself that he became one with the Force. I could see Barriss atoning for her actions in The Clone Wars by giving up her own vitality so that others, like the Jedi she promises to save, will live.

I always figured it was a 10-year timeskip, since Lyn is still with the Inquisitorus by the time of Kenobi.
She would be like in her early to mid 30s she was like a year younger than anakin
@@YoriichiTsugikuni161
Anakin was 22 during Revenge of the Sith, yeah?
She was a kid lol? 😂
Mirialans like Bariss are supposed to live for centuries.
@@YoriichiTsugikuni161 Tell that to Bo Katan in the Mando and Book of Boba ( likely 50-60s but looks younger ). )))) her looks may be deciving . Same thing with Boba Fett ( being younger than Vader but his actor is and looks older than the character ) . I would guess stress and force related factors are probably the reason why Bariss looks so old
Kind of similar to Kenobi on Tatooine, both just aged so rapidly due to stress and trauma, it’s a real thing in our own world.
This is a little past that though, if you assume she's the same age as Ahsoka, that makes her 17 during Order 66. Lets say 20 give or take, and adjusting for how much time may have passed during training or other Inquisitor missions, the empire still being active is max 24 years later, so she's only gonna be 45 at the most. And Mirialans live for about 200 years. Rwoh is in Acolyte and looks 40, at age 100. Its the equivalent of a 20 year old looking like they're 70, its so far past trauma at that point. They call her a healer, what about the Force healing thing makes no sense?
@@alexisborden3191 no I thought she was close to the same age as Anakin
@@elijahsmith7918 That's not much older, if you assume this takes place during the same time as Episode 6 which is probably the latest it can be. If she's the same age as Anakin, she's 45, if she's the same age as Ahsoka, she's 40 by that time.
In Legends : She was a healer. I am guessing it's Canon. now.....
Wasnt she one in the clone wars?
@@krosskreut3463 The show never addressed that. Her skills as a healer were explored in the MedStar duology of novels
@@CouncilCape897 she indeed was still a healer in Canon
@@pharaohbubbles1547 Sure, in the wider Canon. But the other commenter was asking specifically about TCW. I've watched it enough times to remember she was never mentioned to be a healer in the show.
@@CouncilCape897 she was during the 2nd Geonosian invasion
So it’s like she’s giving her life away little by little so that’s making her age quickly ? Ok I’ll buy it
But Kylo doesnt age he just dies. And Rey doesnt age either....
@@gamedude412well Barriss has probably been doing it for years especially if she’s even earned a title for it
@@gamedude412 yea but kylo was at 1HP
@@gamedude412Kylo gave everything he had all at once. Rey gave small pieces like twice. Bariss has likely been giving small pieces on the regular for the better part of a decade.
I guess it’s like a a side affect of using this type of force healing eventually you will look older then you are
Stress!!! Sis was healing lives😂😂😂😂
Barriss Offee didn't get enough Barris Coffee
lol 😂
Just want to add. I also think that it is in addition to this logical explanation that I also think it's great symbolism to show how baris offie has learned and evolved in this aged while her dark side opponent has made Frozen and stuck in her fear and hatred. Similar to how while they did age. Dad, Darth maul looks very much like he did when he appeared in episode 1 but Obi-Wan aged really rapidly on tatooine.
I definitely agree, but also, the harsh conditions on that frozen planet took its toll
yea the stress of being hunted down
Another thing we can add to Mirialan physiology, considering they can live long lives because of Vernestra Rwoh in The Acolyte despite first appearing at least a century prior to that show as a teenager.
I would hesitate to say Mirialans in general have that age, in legends I remember seeing that force sensitives can have longer natural lifespans but rarely did live that long because of the nature of their work. Vernestra might just have that benefit from the force
@@Zombotron5678 I think in some interview they pretty much explicitly stated it was more her species. Force users can gain some minor degree of longevity, but not close to 100 extra years worth.
@@Zombotron5678 It's a Mirialan thing. General Viess from the High Republic franchise in general was not a Force user (and made a reputation out of killing Jedi) and she lived to be at least 170 years.
I just assumed there was a time skip and this was later, like maybe around Rebels
I think the issue with that is that Barriss is around Ahsoka's age, I say slightly older. And we see that in Rebels, Ahsoka is around her 30s which she looks like her age there. Barriss here looks like she is in her 50s-60s.
Besides, Mirialans age slower: Vernestra Rwoh from The High Republic books is 15 years old and in the upcoming show The Acolyte, set over 100 years later she lookin her 40's
Even if this scene took place around Rebels, she shouldn't look this old. Excluding the epilogue, Rebels takes place 14-19 years after Revenge Of The Sith. And given that Barriss is around Ahsoka's age, who was canonically in her 30's during Rebels, she wouldn't be older than 40 in this scene
That would make this a difference of like 15 years, she's not gonna age that much in that short a time
lol even if there was a time skip to the end of the galactic civil war there’s no way she would go from looking like a teenager to a 65 year old.
Ok here’s my view. Palatine wasn’t lying when he said Darth Plagueis could use midi chlorians to influence life and prevent death. But the Midichlorians had to come from somewhere. That’s how padme died. Palpatine used her life force to save Anakin. The Jedi ‘force heal’ is exactly the same, but a Jedi is selfless so they use their own life force to save someone else. This is also a perfect example of the difference between the Sith and the Jedi
Plag didn't need to siphon anyone's life force when he was toying with Venamis or others
@@blitzkrieg2928 I know it doesn’t line up 100% continuity wise outside of canon but what does. It’s just how I think of it.
She is older than Ahsoka by a few years, although this explanation is nice
One of the few things I like about canon: Force healing requires your own life energy to preform.
It puzzled me during the episode, but this makes sense.
She attended Obi Wan school of aging
That explaination was way better than I expected I didn't even connect the fact that she is called the healer with her faster ageing.
Han Solo said: “It’s not the years it’s the mileage.”
More likely that she’s not aging, but the rough terrain and harsh weather isn’t very good for her skin. She has to work hard and doesn’t exactly have access to lotion.
You age slower in cold weather though
@@KingShibe I literally just said it’s not age. It’s just her skin is roughened from the harsh weather.
@@jackreynolds2144 no
@@KingShibe wdym no?
Somewhat like Obi-Wan
The Path Of The Dark Side has many skin regiments and treatments some consider to be... unnatural
I guess the life of a fugitive might not be good for health
i aint even seen this yet, but the animation looks immaculate.
well, they are different species so maybe miralans age faster than whatever the hell lyn is supposed to be
Actually I’m pretty sure miralans age slower
In SWGoH she is healer type lol
It's also possible Lyn's species ages slowly
I love how Star Wars will take an idea that has been just hounded on by fans and then use it again with a better execution. M-count from the bad batch is another really good example it’s given time to be explained and interwoven with the plot instead of just being a random bit of Exposition.
Another reason that this is confusing is that I would assume that Mirialans age slower than other species considering Vernestra Rwoh looks to still be middle -aged around 100 years after her early jedi knight days
Also Species age differently and planets’ day and night cycles and therefore how time works on them is completely different.👍
Wonder if Kenobi would do some thing similar to age 20 years. I know Tattooine is brutal too
In Legends, being a healer using the force was said to be like taking on a burden. Similar here i imagine.
From what I read, Barris is approximately 3-4 years older than Ashoka, being born in 40-39 BBY, so in his final episode of *TOTE* he should be between 39-44 years old, depending on what chronological moment he is in. episode occurring, either 0 BBY or 4 BBY.
That Would’ve Been A Good Answer For Obi Wan 💯
A nice nod to her in Legends being a healer.
Granny Chiyo style.
Bottom line , she betrayed my girl ahsoka , won’t forget that
I don’t think it’s that complex, I’m sure it’s just a time skip. Had to be 10 years or so since Lyn was still an inquisitor during the Kenobi series which was 10 years after ROTS and that was the same time Barris became an inquisitor
That’s possible but I also think the harshness of her living conditions contributed a lot. Similar to how Obi-Wan aged so much in the Tatooine desert
I figure Barriss's aging compared to Lyn as being Lyn already a matured adult 30s-40s so does not change as much as a younger person moving into their adulthood of early to late 20s.
It’s a beautiful story but it’s just not what I imagined for Bariss.
Like Obi Wan she got old man Ben syndrome 🤷🏼♂️🤓😎✌🏼
This is a neat process, but I think its far more straightforward. When you live on a literal iceball planet or desert planet for years, you end up aging faster. Obi-Wan literally changed actors.
Lmao.... You realize that's not the reason, I hope...
The video is absolutely correct.
Lyns species my just age slower, she implyes it's been a significant amount of time saying they'd had almost given up looking for her.
She is such as a baddie yo
Well, Barris was a great healer in the comics, I believe, so they're adding that character trait to her on screen.
I feel her species ages at a more human rate compared to lynns species, it probably was 20 years or so was my thought
Living out in the wild and homeless really really age a person super fast ... I've seen it happen first hand.
Tragic, she was too cute.
Or maybe it could be that Mirilian's age differently then whatever species of Twi'lek Lyn is
Seeing how it is presumbably taking place in maybe 2bby
Amazing
Maybe they’re different points in the years and canon, that’s what Morgan’s story did, clone wars, Empire age, new republic. I mean if we think about it more than complain and come to fast conclusions
The reason people didn't assume this was the case is because the other Inquisitor did not have the same level of aging. Also if it's during the New Republic said Inquisitor would be unlikely to still be out and about doing their normal Inquisitor stuff.
Star War Ageing is just weird and case and point Bo-Katan.
Also she's an alien, different lifespans and all that.
Pretty sure the version of Force Healing Rey and Ben use is supposed to be a dyad only thing. I mean, we’ve seen others heal with the Force, but they are technically different techniques.
So Obi-Wan could've saved Qui-Gon and aged merely a few years...but nah he's just gonna screw with everyone by letting his master die, emotionally damaging his padawan, abandoning Luke halfway into his training and letting his broken grandmaster finish his job...and of course leaving a veteran to die on the streets.
wonder who OWK healed on Tatooine then to age so quickly between ROTS and ANH???
How does she change her name after the clone wars?
I mean isn’t she Anakins age?? Vader was like 30s
Barriss was around Anakin's age in Legends continuity, but she was aged down in TCW to make her Ahsoka's contemporary instead, which carried over to the current Canon. But I still find it odd how quickly Barriss aged in this scene she shares with the Fourth Sister, given that the Inquisitorius had been decommissioned by the time of A New Hope due to most of its members having died, which wouldn't make her 40.
She was 21 by her last appearance in the clone wars. If the Empire is still around, which it assumably is then she'd be 36-37 at most
Also she was close to Anakin's age
She didnt have beauty routine, Ive seen mothers like that , theyre look like near 50s while only they are on their 30s.
Here's hoping that Rey does LOTS of healing, so that we can move on to a more interesting character when she dies of old age at 30. 👍
I just realized I've been calling her the wrong name; ny mind always filled her last name as Soka XD
I assumed it was a time skip not sure where she would learn an obscure force trick like that
She was actually already a healer in legends, where she frequently used her healing abilities to treat the clones under her command and to keep them alive.
It's actually one of the things that led to her turning against the jedi in that continuity, they are just reestablishing here.
@hyliayggdrasil2725 first time I heard of her was that mission on geonosis. I remember there was a jedi medic book vaguely but no details
@@adam-di7rk *nods* I only know from lore videos and from what I've read about but in legends continuity she was very powerful in force healing, and she was incredibly gifted in that ability.
A large part of her fall apparently came when after months of really violent fighting over a planet that the republic and the separatists both wanted for its resources the planet was ruined and both sides abandoned the planet.. so the whole series of battles was for nothing.
So Barriss, watching so many of her soldiers die and seeing the devastation that it all caused went to Luminara because she was so deeply conflicted about the whole experience.. and Luminara being.. herself.. basically told her to get over it and move on >.>;;
I assume it was. A time skip
Would've preferred a duel between her a vader leading to her realizing hes anakin as their fight mirrors their duel in the clone wars, followed by her death because darth vader, of course she's going to die there. The redemption felt a little forced and her death kind of needless and weird, but it was in character and I still enjoyed it so oh well.
Is this show any good?
It's prison
The only problem with that is that in the original timeline, Barris, as well as other Jedi healers, did not lose their life force to use the healing powers they were adept at using from The Force.
Aging her to this point maybe an attempt to show her as more mature than when her story arc began. More tired and world weary or even something done by herself through The Force as a disguise.
In any event although I like Barris, Disney is pulling far too many retcons to the franchise for it to make any kind of logical sense or be enjoyable to watch anymore.
Force healing.
Uhh okay...
...you know when they introduce "force healing" into any situation it basically translates to "terrible writing, and we ran out of ideas"
Because it’s a cartoon. Next.
A channel called Star Wars Explained is taking on Disney Canon?
Good luck with that.
Tales of the empire was very disappointing
i dont buy it... thats a very baseline take...so all healers that are jedi give their life away..that seems rather pointless....
Oh god. Spare me this nonsense
By far the stupidest thing in star wars behind “palatine somehow palpatine returned”
Disney! Please stop trying to justify the existence of force healing. No one likes it.
Pretty sure force healing existed before Disney
1) It existed WAY before the "Disney canon"
2) Barriss was always a force healer in Legends
I like force healing.
Force heal isn't a disney made ability
