    Lego Battle of Shanghai
    At all cost !
After a lot of Problems with this Project, I present you my first big Pacific battle.
This Animation took me for some reason so many attempts, that I got like a Million cut out Scenes.
For me, this Animation is like the Spanish Civil War, I learned alot more how I can and cannot animate better.
This will influence my future Videos positively.
Nationalist Chinese and Imperial Japanese troops fight during the Second Sino Japanese War in the chinese City of Shanghai in 1937.
The german equipped Chinese try to fight off the better organised and prepared Japanese at during an attack in the heart of the City.
One of the Units, which defends the City, is the german trained 88th Division, which is potrayed in Field Grey in this Video.
The blue figures are in reality communist forces, which played no big role in the war, they're supposed to be normal infantry so excuse my wrong usage and lack of figures.
(Also, the chinese look german, because they use german supplied guns and uniforms)

To those who are going to ask the German VS Japanese question.
    1. Chiang Kai Shiek's China was supported by Germans till 1941. However it was already wavering since 1940.
    2. There are Divisions that were trained by Germans. 88th Chinese Division is one of them.
    3. Chinese standard soldiers do wear German helmets and others like the British Brodie.
    4. Their rifle the Chiang Kai Shiek rifle is directly similar to the Kar98k or the Mauser98
    5. Blue uniforms are not restricted to only Communist Chinese soldiers. The more extreme nationalist parts of China wore blue also.
    6. For some reason people say China did not have tanks. They did actually have a array of it all thanks to the Spanish Civil War. Panzer II and the T-26 for example.
    7. Chinese soldiers would wear Japanese equipment due to Shanghai being slow on their supply runs.
    8. It is not suprising to find most Chinese Divisions with straw slippers. The 100th Chinese Division is a example as everyone wore it and after every battle they would take Japanese boots off their dead corpses.
    9. Most uniforms seen here are by the Nationalist China. Warlord soldiers have way different uniforms. So don't be surprised to see different versions.

Hey, man I see you did an wonderfull job with this project. Doing a battle in the Second Sino-Japanese War is kinda rare for brickfilmers. You posted a long comment on mine Second Sino-Japanese War animation so I'm going to do the same. Altrough the uniforms aren't 100% acurate. Like the armband of the 8th route army. (I'm not going to bitch on that). You still did a great job on the animation. despide you shot it in 10 fps it was still smooth and nice.
I also love your I-Go tank design.
I also feel you when people ask about why the Germans are figting the Japanese in the comment section. The Chinese were trained and equipped by the Germans at the beginning of the war, but around 1940 they were mainly supplied by the US. They were also supplied by the Soviets.
It was an honor to help you out a bit with this project and I would love to see that our animations will spark an intrest in the Second Sino Japanese War in the community.

I'm trying to get enough figures for my own Changsha animation. Mind if I ask do you have any websites to recommend getting cheap figures? Or any tactics?

    • @starwarsstudio100
      @starwarsstudio100 Před 7 lety

Well, I got mine from Brickmania, but I'm not sure if they sell them anymore. It's only the torso they sell. You can also check Hong Kong Toy Store (In the link of this video) for some cheap knock offs.
The torso's on Brickmania are around 6 dollars a piece. The Chinese in Changsha wore those German Kepi's and brodie helmets. There are no known photograpghic evidence of the M35 helmet used during all four battles by the Chinese, but it's save to asume they did as, the M35 helmet was also used by the central army and by the Collaborationist Chinese Army.
But wich battle of Changsha are you planning to do as there were four battle in and around the city of Changsha in 1939, 1941, 1942 and 1944?
It would be nice if you do it about your Great-grandfather.

Japan did win at Shanghai 1937, but the Chinese defended it very heavily, and it took a heavy toll on the Japanese, if you are showing that part of the battle. Aside from that, great job with the set and stop motion, and the suits for the figures are accurate considering the Chinese used German equipment.
