  • The DBX is an important car for Aston Martin, arguably the future of the company relies on its success. In this comprehensive review I ask 4 simple questions. Does it look like an Aston ? Does it have an interior fit for an Aston ? Does it sound like an Aston ? And finally, does it drive like an Aston ?
    The results surprised me, and I even took it off-road !
    A huge thanks to Aston Martin Chichester, part of the Harwoods Group, and Aston Martin for giving me access to such a special car. The guys at AML Chichester now have a stunning demonstrator should you wish to experience this car for yourself.

    I hope this works for Aston. I’m not a big fan of SUVs but if it means Aston can survive then great. Kudos to Aston for creating a bespoke platform for the DBX and not just copying and pasting like the Betayga and Urus.

    The DBX factory is a few miles from my house, great to have a World Class car made in WALES!!! I always see Aston Martin employees in our local supermarkets wearing there AM clothing with pride. Thanks PP looking forward to the next vid.

    My initial reaction when the DBX was announced was, "WTF Aston! An SUV??? OMG - what's becoming of this world!!"
    And now, even though I'd still choose any other current model over the DBX (I just don't have any need for an SUV), if I was told I could only ever have this one Aston, I'd jump to sign the cheque!!
    Aston - the only Marque to make an SUV actually sexy! RR & Bentley's attempts are just ugly, Lamborghinis Urus is just an exotic toy, Porsche & Audi are halfway decent - but the DBX is just shockingly good for a car in this sector!!

    It does look fabulous same for the interior, not too sure about the rear end? Got to admit though if it had a Ford badge on the front from a little distance I'd be fooled into thinking it was a one off production model. Colour plays a big part here in my opinion because if you look at the CarWow reviews other colours make the car look much better than white, even the rear end.

    Love the interior and I really like the back in white, although i'm not sure about it in other colours. However, the front and the headlights look a bit too small and fussy compared to the rest of it and make it look a bit out of proportion. I think maybe bigger headlights would look better, or a slightly less pronounced tailgate perhaps, to make it a more cohesive design?

    Great review. It’s fantastic! I applaud Aston for the DNA styling, instantly an Aston as much as a Panamera is a Porsche. It is the best looking and performing 4x4xfar. Would you really have a Bentley Bentaga with its Austin 1100 rear lights or the hackney Taxi from Rolls Royce? And personally I think the rear of the DBX is gorgeous 👍

    Excellent review as always Pete, I'm no fan of the SUV form as I think an estate/shooting brake is a far nicer looking thing. However, this car has all the styling cues one would expect an Aston to have from the frontal sweeping lights, bonnet vents and grill shape, to the oversize rear haunches... The rear for me is OK but not great but that goes for a lot of SUV style cars. If Porsche can sell Cayennes then this deserves so much more success. Overall I feel its a good car, looks, style, interior, drive.... It ticks all the Aston boxes and deserves to secure the future of Aston Martin just as the VH2 Vantage did from 15 years ago. My only gripe is the reliance on Mercedes but understand why it's happened.

    DBX, the Handling! Can I suggest you have a drive in a Land Rover Discovery Series 2 with the ACE (Active Cornering Enhancement) pack, produced between 1998 & 2004! OK, technology has moved on leaps and bounds since then, but the D2's system, which borrows the concept from the hastily banned F1 Active Suspension, employs a pair of computer controlled (as much as modern ecu's are mini computers!) hydraulically controlled anti-roll bars, with, as I recently found out on mine, a body roll sensor above the headlining and the interior mirror! I first test drove a diesel D2 in early 1999, and my road car was a very, very early Subaru Impreza Turbo wagon (UK model with Prodrive Recaro trim). I collected the car from the Dealer in Stirling for a 24hr test and drove it home to Perth via a very steep and twisty B-C class road leading towards an old Roman Road that ran roughly parallel to the A9 East of Auchterarder & Gleneagles! I jest not, but that reasonably sluggish Td5 D2 sped up that steep and twisty hill taking the corners at similar speeds to my Impreza! And the D2 weighed close to double the weight of the Impreza! So why the comparison an old Discovery? From your, and others' comments, they share a similar concept in Active Roll Bar technology in so far as the D2's very high pressure hydraulic system forces the car to corner very flatly! Given the advances in technology, and budgets, Aston Martin are using a 48volt 'fly by wire' version of Land Rover's ACE system which will allow the response on the DBX to be so much faster than JLR's hydraulic system, versions of which are still being used on today's Discoveries and Range Rovers! Basically the only real limiting factor with the ACE on a D2 was the grip from the tyres, and you would hopefully sense that when you heard and felt the traction control kick in!! I, too have loved Aston Martin's for nearly 50 years (that's James Bond's fault!), but I could easily see me behind the wheel of a DBX if my numbers come up, sorry Land Rover!!

    Thats a car but it needs to be a Land Rover for me at the local shoot. For the price I could get a pair of new Defenders a 90 for off road and a 110 for road work was really impressed with my recent road test. Would I buy that or keep saving for a pair of Purdeys not sure. Obviously I need to buy a lottery ticket and can get everything in one go and maybe throw in the Aston.

Can it cut it as a “daily” driver? Looking forward to seeing it driven alongside Cayenne, Bentayga, RSQ8 ( not including the Cullinan, too ugly).

  • @raywhite7789
    @raywhite7789 Před 3 lety +1

    First, I like it, great car. (SUV) Second, even if I didn't like it, I love it, if it saves Aston and gives us more Vantages and DBS. One thing that does bother me about these companies creating life saving SUVs like Aston & Porsche etc. The sports cars never get cheeper allowing more people to possible reach a Vantage or 911 like thing. If the SUV brought in enough cash they could reduce the others by 10 or 15% and sell more of them to people that would but fined them just outside their price range. (I know wishful thinking) Lastly Pete, I find many cars look better or worse in the dark of night and I have never seen any reviewers like yourself every show the cars at night. I'd be very curious to see different angles of the lights and designs inside and out during the night and what people think of it. On this Aston for example those running lights around the air vents for the brakes. I'm not so sure... Yes pictures are on the internet but then if that's all we needed or wanted you wouldn't have a job doing this. I assume not all your test cars you have for more than a few hours during the day but it would be something unique.

    Hi Pete as an avid anti SUV person, don't see the need or point of them! I'm really impressed by this offering especially those wheels 👌. The car looks great, sounds great and performs great. I even like the burgundy interior, but in my mind I'm still in the 80s burgundy and grey everywhere lol. I love the fact it hasn't got a stupid touch screen covered in oily fingerprints but proper manual knobs and switches 👍. My main dislike other than the price is the bloody panoramic roof, why are they on so many cars now? I hate them, give me metal over my head everyday of the week. The rear is unusual but it's certainly not ugly in my eyes, yes the front is an oversized Fiesta grill but that doesn't detract from the car it enhances it. I can't see I'd ever be able to afford and Aston SUV, but if I had the money I'd certainly considerate it, which surprised me a lot. Take care mate, I'm in the dumps because of Saturday meet and greet had to get cancelled and I was really looking forward to it, 2020 needs to be over with and hopefully 2021 will be some return to normality, so many Motorsport events cancelled this year which I was hoping to attend, gutted. Nice car Pete, not sure about the colour of the interior, a bit like being in the theatre.Is there an option for front curtains?

    Looks a little bit like the Ford Puma from the front IMO. Sorry AM.

    Absolutely love the review and the car is awesome, although the front end does look a little like my Fiesta on steroids, thats where the likeness ends sadly. lol
    With regard to The Casino Royale, Monte Carlo I went there and proceded to let them know that the British had arrived. With my 3 mates Skinhead Moon stomp full volume on the steps of the Casino Royale. 1970 Happy days. 😆 ps we got chased round Monte Carlo by the carabinieri, they didn't catch us.

      I get the reference to the Fiesta but its Ford that have copied the Aston look a little, check out the grill of Mondeo etc. I love Ford's though.

    Sorry Pete but I don't like the front end but the rear design is lovely. As usual I love the sound and performance of the DBX, I would have to leave it in sport mode

  • @HQBProductions
    @HQBProductions Před 3 lety +1

    Yes I would buy one but..the front is very close to Ford thinking, the duck tail thing is awkward and ugly...see Donald Duck....the side os good but don’t park near any new Jaguars and the interior....hmm...I like burgundy and wood but that car is rather like sitting in a plum coloured Melba Fruit sweet. It is all there but is it good enough?...at £60/70,000 perhaps. Then the sound...it is alright. So to summarise...it would be interesting to own...very expensive as it loses money like a waterfall...but not white, the interior needs a lot of work, saw off the duck tail and reduce the price....meanwhile I will head to Porsche and buy a Cayenne Coupe Turbo SE hybrid. A good review again Peter...well done! Stay safe!!Richard 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

      @@PetrolPed Peter...I want to be but that car is just not quite right...in better colours would help as white with sticky plum leather and dreadful choice of wood colour did it no favours. It needs to be seen as you have done but too many Astons are not that good...it is not a car I would go for BUT wish the Company well and I think it will make a huge difference fir them...the Bentayga May be ugly and the Cullian horrendous but they both sell and bring in needed money! The LWB version might look a challenge but the coupe...think MB GLE SUV or Coupe??...everybody hates the coupe..it is a job to get things right! Stay with Charley Clubman..you know that makes sense!!😀😀😀😀

    My Cayenne S diesel, 5.4 secs to 100kph, 157mph top speed, mpg in my hands around the farm and local 26, on a run 36 which = 600+ on a tank full. Just saying Pete 😉...... I’m not sure you did!🤔 😀

    Duck tail would take some getting used to but that purple interior is a 70s rehash (yuk)
    Some of it, yes. All of it, no

    Not sure about the colour. Think it looks more Aston like in the darker shades. Lovely interior but that colour combo is just wrong. Sounds like an AMG Merc, sorry an Aston Martin. What even an SVR Range Rover. Come on Pete you could take the Clubman down there. All being said I think and hope that it will be a huge success.
