For a vintage kit, it's in incredible condition. Nice!!
Hi Henry, I agree I’m just one year older than the kit itself😁 it was in better shape than me. Thanks for watching.
One of my Holy Grail kits! Great demonstration. I got one of my own projects to use that tape on. Thats got to be the best method Ive seen to decant paint. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Alan, I appreciate you watching. My pleasure to share my tips with you all. I'm glad you found value in the video.
That decanting straw. That is practical genius on the Ron Popeil level. Awesome!!
Thanks Paul, a good friend of mine showed me that trick years ago. It’s almost fool proof🤪. I appreciate you watching.
My best friend owned and restored a 1970 AMC rebel machine, he painted it Big bad blue. You built a beautiful model, a master craftsman, some of your techniques can apply to model railroad frieght cars, enjoyed the video 👍
Thank you so much for watching Joseph. I appreciate your support 👍
Great choice on that kit! Looking forward to more of it and to see how you tackle that lovely interior tub.
Thanks Marty! I'm still thinking about what I can do with that interior to make it stand out a little more. I appreciate your support bud.
Cool technique with using a pipette for decanting. I’ve been using bendy straws for that.
Thanks for watching Robert. The pipette trick works well because it fastens to the tip of the can without much work.
Coming along nicely...I know it's a bit outside your usual builds, but looking great...thanks for sharing 😎
Thanks so much Robin. Back in the day, I built strictly Mopar muscle cars. This isn't as outside as you think :) I appreciate you watching.
I just made myself a cheap spray booth. To replace the original one I had.
Old exhaust fan from the bathroom, cardboard box and a filter !
When money starts getting tighter. you do what you have to do.
That way you can enjoy your hobby.
I've had my share of paintbooths over the years. I had the opportunity to buy a professional unit and jumped at it. It is by far the best I've ever used. It is made by Pace Industries. Pricey, but it'll last forever.
Looking good . Like spray can tip. And watching you cut the BMF . I found myself cutting it with my finger on the table. Lol
Thanks Rick! Believe it or not the cutting foil scene was at 2x speed! I figured nobody would watch 15 seconds of me cutting foil. I appreciate you watching bud👍
Very cool. Personally I may have chosen the wagon but I just kinda like wagons in general. This is looking amazing of course. Impressed with the number of parts in that box! Looking forward to what you do with that interior!
Oh and huge congrats on 5k! Love it.
Thanks Spencer! Most of the parts in the box I won't be using because they are for the Drag car option. It really is a simple kit to build. I'm a little concerned about making the interior something interesting to look at.
Cool Stuff James! Vintage kits were meant to be built!
Thanks K-Dog, I totally agree! But… some of those old tools are so crude and basic it’s better to sell them to someone who just has to have it 🤪
You can also use the button and tube off a can of breaker cleaner or canned air. Run a little cleaner through it and it ready to go time after time. Saves me a lot of time decanting. Keep up the good work. I look forward to your videos
That’s a good tip Thomas! Thanks for sharing it. I appreciate you watching and supporting the channel.👍
You are a master of decals sir. Very impressive.
Thank you Peter! I find decals and polishing satisfying. Not while I’m doing them but after I’m done. Thanks for watching 👍
Congratulations on having 5,000 subscribers. That is quite an accomplishment.
I agree with you. You picked the right kit to borrow. Also, you are painting the model the color it deserves to be painted.
Great tip for decanting paint.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Michael for your kind words. I really appreciate your continued support bud👍
Looking good, thanks for not playing loud music during your video
Thanks for watching Brian, I'm working on the sound quality of my videos for you the audience's enjoyment. I appreciate the support!
@@ScaleModelExperiment I thought the sound quality was perfect
"The Machine" was a good choice James (the '65 Chevrolet Wagon would have been a good option too).
I agree Wombat. I'm a Mopar guy so this was an obvious choice for me. Thanks for watching!
Wow she's looking good
Thanks for watching Travis, I appreciate your support.
Hey James, LOVE these kinds of videos dude! I do the same thing whenever I build.
It's funny just how far kits have come over the years huh? This was very cool to watch.
I'm glad that you did a "vintage" kit this time. But the one's you usually do are not one's
that I build, so it's cool to see how you do them. Like I've said before James, your CZcams
channel is AWESOME! Always something to inspire me, always something to learn. So
thank you for continuing to put out great stuff James!
I’m flattered Jeff! Thank you so much for your encouragement. It’s nice to know that when I put something together and throw it up on CZcams that some people are inspired by the video. I really appreciate your support Jeff, Thank You!
That spray can hack was genius! One of the things that I loved about Jo-Han kits was the wonderfully odd subjects they pick to release.
Thanks for watching JD, I'm glad to share all of my tips to make your model builds easier. Johan did have some odd ones :)
Most excellent! Remember to breath though!! 😀😀
Thank you Neil👍 I appreciate the support bud.
Very nice work James. Thanks for sharing! 😎🇨🇦
Thank you so much Peter for watching!
Love AMC cars. The rebel machine is one of the coolest cars AMC made. This is a cool build. Great job so far. Congratulations on 5k subs 👏👏👏👍👍😎
Thank you so much Old School. I like the Hurst S/C Rambler “scrambler” as well, it was a sign of the times. I appreciate your support!
I know your Love for Stripes, Rims, and Tires. Great choice , Nice Video! Excellent start James!!! Congrats on the subs
I do love a hood stripe package on a muscle car 🤪. Next episode is coming soon showing how to polish an imperfect clear coat. Thanks for watching Mike, I appreciate your support 👍
That was a really good choice and a very rare kit, I have one but it's in the never ending pile to build. 😂
Very good tip on tinting the primer! And the decanting of the Tamiya spray.
Body is looking great!
Thanks Gary for watching, I like to share the little tips I’ve picked up over the years. Thanks for watching👍
I don't know hot girl was pretty impressive I think you made the right choice beautifully done great job on the subs
Thanks so much Bud, I’ve never done a figure before it may have been an epic fail. Lol. I appreciate you watching and supporting the channel.👍
Thats the kit i would have picked nice job
Thanks for watching Kevin, I appreciate your support👍
Yup!! You made the right call.
Thanks for watching Mars! I appreciate the support 👍
This looks Amazing so far!,it's nice to see old kits like this built! not left on a shelf to collect dust!looking forward to the next update.
Thanks Curtis, that was Dave's thought too! Build those old kits instead of watching them sit on the shelf. This kit was an original 1970 issue!
Great work as allways. Your models look so great 😊😊😊
Thank you Sindre! I appreciate the support👍
awesome stuff James …thanks for the great video!
I’m glad that you enjoyed the video Sean, I appreciate the support 👍
Nice choice of kit there James, I would have chosen the same from those available! Great work like always, looking forward for the next update on this. Nice tip for decanting paint, will definitely try it out. Well done for the 5K subscribers too, you truly deserve that 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you so much Karl for watching. I’m already working on part 3 of the video series now👍
Looks great James, 👍👍
Thanks for watching Joker! I appreciate the support.

Very cool video lots of cool stuff to see how you guys make them look so cool
Thanks for watching Horton. I appreciate your support.
Love your paint work! Thanks for all your pro tips. I especially liked your decanter method with the pipette. Thanks for the video 😎👍
Thanks for watching Intake! it is my pleasure to share tips with all of my audience.
Awesome work James!
Thanks so much CB, I appreciate the support 👍
Very cool, looks great!
Thanks for watching Antithesis! I appreciate the support.
i just bought this kit . thanks for doing this video
That's awesome Jeff! I ended up using the decals from Firebird designs because the decals from the kit were off white and would have stood out against the bright white body. Good luck with your build and thanks for watching.
@@ScaleModelExperiment look up ray's decals he has a great set for them and a lot of other kits as well
James absolutely gorgeous paint and it's very cool to see building a vintage Johan model and you know johans are my favorite kits! Remember to tell him if he doesn't want the extra parts leftover from the kit that I'll buy them or trade? ❤😊
Absolutely Shawn, When I am finished with it, I'll mention that you are interested in the drag parts. Thanks for your continued support brother, I really appreciate it.
@Scale Model Experiment thank you James and Damm you are killing this build!!
@@thescalemodelcarguychannel8681 thanks bro!
@@ScaleModelExperiment ❤️
That is looking good!
Thanks Left Coast. The final video is uploaded as well. Check it out.
Looking good so far bean looking for that kit at reasonable price hard to find hear in Vancouver Canada looking forward on more of this great build very detailed video one of the best shows out their thanks😊
Thank you so much Thomas for your kind words. Keep looking, you'll eventually find one of these kits in an unlikely place. Thanks for watching.
Nice work so far. You need a "Dead Cat" on your mic, can hear you breathing 26:30
I really do need to up my game with some equipment. I’m using my iPhone mounted to a boom right under my chin while I build to give you that first person view. An external microphone will make for better videos. Soon…
Beautiful Work Brother 🏆🏆 GBA 🤗 Gary.
Thanks for your continued support Gary! I appreciate you man!
👍👍
Great job brother! Congrats!
Thanks for watching and commenting Jamie, I appreciate the support!
@Scale Model Experiment your welcome brother
Nice work, that’s the kit I’d have chosen too. Incredible how they fitted all those parts in one tiny box.
Not sure if you’ve done the interior yet but I’m currently building Jo-Han’s ‘72 Javelin and I’ve found cutting out the floor and seats separately go be the best way to detail a one-piece interior.
Thank you for watching. I will have the video up soon for the Rebel. I painted the seat inners with flat black and the rest semi gloss. It’s pretty dark inside with all that black. I’ll still need to add a few more touches before final assembly.
Cool 👍🏿
Thanks for watching MC1589! I appreciate your support.
Superb! Congrats on the 5k subscribers!
Thanks so much for watching DMG, I appreciate your support :)
cool kit and nice job on the bare metal foil this kit is going to look really good and like the tip on the paint Now I know your way better then me but have you ever tried just putting a little tape down and then using clear food wrap aka Glad for the rest of the kit does cut down on the amount of tape needed ,But like I said you way better then me just wanted to put that out there for you looking forward to the net video 👍
Hi Deen, at $3-$4 a roll tape is cheap in the grand scheme of things. Better safe than sorry. Getting blue off of white would be a real pain. After clear I’ll mask the whole body again to spray the inside of the body black. I get 3-4 cars from a roll of tape. No worries👍. Thanks for watching bud!
@@ScaleModelExperiment cool , like I said your way better then me
@@deenjoan9938 not better, just different ways of looking at things.
Great build and congratulations on the sub count ☺️
Thank you so much Ty, I couldn't have done it without all of your support.
Man U r a star!😝
Hahaha Kevin!
@@ScaleModelExperiment 5,000 congrats 🫡
I think I would've somehow found a way and means to build dem all😅😂
Hi Scooter, maybe just maybe I’ll get that Torino someday in my hands too.
I built the 1970 rebel machine as a black and orange Washington DC taxi in 1986. Still have it. Why built it as the same old, same old. 😊
Thanks for watching Peter 👍 I bet it does look cool as a taxi. Thanks for the smile😆
Very cool, but I'm trying to figure out why CZcams is just showing me this now when it's 7 days old? I have notifications set on "all". Dang YT!!
Strange! They suggest what they think you want to watch. Guess they think they know you better than you do. LOL Thanks for watching👍
omg dambit man 😬😵
Thanks man!
No other video on this kit?
This is the first in the series. This ain’t Netflix man! LOL I’m still working on it.
@@ScaleModelExperiment Sorry... i just realized its a recent video.
@@GrandNational66 stay tuned bud there’s more coming.
Wow l think somehow you got screwed you build it for him and don't get to keep don't like that at all lf l build something it is mine to keep
Hi Edward, I can see your point. I’ve known Dave for almost 20 years now. He is a great supporter of the channel and it was a good idea for me to build something I normally wouldn’t on the channel. After this one I’ll be going back to JDM, Racecars, and exotics for a while. I actually give away quite a few of my builds. It means a lot to the recipient. Thanks for watching. I appreciate your support.
Hey that's cool🤔
Couldn’t tell if you sanded the edges of the tape, I always do. Helps with paint adhesion and keeps it from ever bleeding through. That is one good looking model Bub! To bad those cars turned into rust dust! Just poke a hole in the paint can with a nail ! 😝 looking forward to seeing this one done ! Dang you’re good with those deckals, I always hated doing them ! Hey what ever happened to Tim Harber ? 😎✌️🫡🇺🇸
Thanks Kevin, I forgot to sand the edges. I lay the paint down so thin that it doesn’t have time to bleed 😜. Tim was another one of the guys I always looked up to. I think he still builds but doesn’t come to meetings anymore or shows. Thank you for watching my friend.
@@ScaleModelExperiment yeh I always thought yours and Tim’s were great! 😎✌️
Tim’s stuff was wired and plumbed to the max every time!
@@ScaleModelExperiment yeah and he thought his builds sucked!
