      @@leanneadams2549 Thrush can also be high iron in the water. Ask me how I know about that, here in NE Texas.😂 OMGosh, I've had my Mustang mare for 16yrs, from a 2yo. I might have had a thrush problem 3 times....until last year around this time. It's been non-stop. I thought it was the one horse whose owner only comes when the farrier is there, but now understand it's the high iron in the well on this small private farm. I finally found a mineral blend with no iron, higher zinc, higher copper, no selenium (TX is high in that too), to offset the iron....Vermont Blend. They have been fabulous to deal with. Bought a 1lb sample...and within days my mare is loving it. My bigger bag is on the way. I'm seeing it starting to work on her hooves in less than a week. Anyway, we were enjoying the house and beach one day and a guy drove by and asked my mom if she wanted some horse manure on a bed of pelargoniums (like geraniums) in front of the house. She said "sure". He just dumped it on and of course, at first it stunk, but honest to God, I have never seen flowers bloom like those pelargoniums did after a few months. They were gorgeous! That is how I learned the power of horse manure on plants! lol! So yeah, sell that manure. Note: The guy who dumped it on my mom's flowers was giving it away to anyone who wanted it. lol!

    I thoroughly enjoyed that. It's very interesting to me how you take care of the manure compost. That is a lot of work. I can't believe you got it all done in one day and the drag as well. The horses all look great. Tiny is such a great cat.

    When we had horses we called them “pot rocks”. We used wood shavings top. Horse manure is the best fertilizer for outdoor gardening as far as I am concerned. I am hopelessly in love with Nigel.

    Stewy looks so smart, and understanding when you go and say hi.
    I love your channel, and this video reminds me of when I once upon a time lived in a town I'll call Doham. It was a large farming community but had a charming small town feel, and home to one of one of the largest Fairs in the state.
    It began to grow with many, what we called Yuppies (Young Up and coming Professionals) moving in and building very large houses on what was once fertile farmland beginning sometime in the early 1700's.
    In a favorite area of mine there was an expansive farm that raised many, many horses. I used to drive by and sometimes sit, getting my horse therapy. The smell, feel, and mere sight of watching the beautiful creatures did wonders for my spirit.
    After many parcels of land nearby were sold and developed with homes, the "neighborhood' became inundated with many joggers, bicyclists, and other outdoor enthusiasts.
    After some time there was an article in the local newspaper that said how many people in this "new" area were starting a petition to monitor the farm and the amount of horses they could maintain. All of this started over what they called, "the obscene odors of horse manure." I am not being fictitious here.
    Lawyers who had recently moved in and invested their time and money became involved and successfully got enough people on a petition to force some ridiculously stringent orders and rules to this farm that had been operating for many generations. Some of the rules were sadly disturbing such as where and how to store the manure, and even imposed a limit on the amount of horses they could have.
    It obviously split the town between the older residents and the new, and was disenchanting to watch. My time there ended because of prior commitments. I was happy to leave because many of the newer people were getting into politics and surprisingly had many supporters. They were somewhat victorious too in changing what was once a charming and idealic place.
    I still go through the town from time to time, but it lost so much purity to me. The horse farm is still there, and although it has been encroached upon, it is still breeding and taking care of horses. I left a lot of details out, some by choice, others I can't remember. Thanks for reminding me of this C.C. Keep on making that beautiful, "Stinkin', smelly gold," as it is so healthy to our nostrils, and beneficial to many, many farmers, agriculturists, and mycologists, as well as the wild life.

      We are running into this when looking for a property! 10-20acres parcels but only 2 horses allowed! Blasphemy!

    • @davidwolfson7060
      @davidwolfson7060 Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@TheCleverCowgirl I can't say I agree with it in a small state like Rhode Island or Connecticut, but I could begin to understand, but that's it-- especially if it is in a rural area with much acreage surrounding it. In a states such as California, Texas, Montana, etc. it is Blasphemy, and more.
      Twenty acres is more than sufficient for at least ten horses, and I am no means an expert but my honest estimation would be an acre per horse, and please correct me if I am wrong, or out of my league.
      Thanks again for your interesting content and the Horse Therapy that I get.

    Use to compost just like you do. Made good money at it. 'Bob' my 743 Bobcat skid steer is my most important piece of equipment on my little farm. The heat in the compost pile can really get up there. I used to wrap eggs in their cartoon wrap in double plastic and shove them deep into the heat of the pile. Retrieve them a few days later for the best no effort hard cooked eggs ever! Really enjoy your videos.
