HERE'S AN ALTERNATIVE RANGE EXTENDER: czcams.com/video/4F1-pAUxg7s/video.html. Just in case you can't find the Xiaomi Mi anymore.
Sir this is a king level video ... Thank you!!!!! I'm wondering something to put up a very powerful extender on my house roof will that have the same effect but work better? or can two mi2 be joined? In the area there is alot of interference ... don't get me wrong the mi2 totally changed the video quality for the better... but is it wrong to want more or a fixed home station?
Bless
D
I had despaired of actually getting my Xaiomi repeater working with my Tello. But after watching this (and some diligent work and a whole lot of swearing) I GOT IT WORKING! Thank you!
Awesome, glad it helped.
excellent video th only 1 I have watched that explains exactly how to connect successfully great job
Thanks Alan. I'm glad it helped. Surprising how they don't include any instructions.
@@GadgetInspector Agree this was the only video that adequately explained the process. The device I got today did include instructions but they're worthless. Thanks so much for this help!!
I have probably watched ten or more videos on this extender setup and YOURS is the ONLY ONE that got the job done! Expertly explained ... clear concise and no BS. THANK YOU!!!
BS= BiaS (detour)
Thank you bro, finally my lil tello can fly farther then ever.
Thanks brother, Thanks for this. I had mine for 7 months and needed help setting it up. God bless ya brother and happy flying.
You got it. Glad it helps. Lots of trial and error but I finally got it to work.
What was the extended range? Was it more than 20 meters?
1. Connect to Tello and make WiFi password for Tello
2. Connect to WiFi extender
3. When WiFi extender asks what network to extend, choose Tello network
I know it's old, but this was super helpful. Just bought a Tello ryze and the MI Wi-Fi extender, everything was explained clearly and I'm really happy.
Glad it helped Joyce!
It unfortunately looks like the Xiaomi Mi repeater is no longer available. I have not used it, but based on the research I've done this one will work as an alternative: amzn.to/3fFMrUq. If enough people like and/or respond to this comment I'll go ahead and do a setup tutorial.
No way i would have figured this out without your video. Killer job. Thanks man.
Glad it helped.
It’s a RANGE extender. You place it 100 to 150 from you and it extends your range another 150’. If you place it next to you, you get minimal benefit. You get 100 to 150’ depending on wi fi range. You check range with cellphone so as not to risk your Tello.
thank you kind sir, for the clear and comprehensive directions. After not using the extender for several years, I wanted to get back into it, and your video was instrumental. Wishing you a blessed new year!
Hey thanks! I’m surprised and pleased that this video is still valuable.
You literally saved my ass dude, I didn't realize that the tello didn't appear in the xiaomi app if I didn't set a password...THANKS!
Your video is excellent. I would never had thought to choose China, let alone all the rest of it. You're the best.
On Android and got stuck setting it up in Mi Home, connected to my Tello but it kept timing out and wouldn't go any further. Noticed my light was blue and checked my connects and had a Tello_Plus, and it worked fine! Skipped quite a few steps, somehow it connected everything itself, but I'm okay with that! Great video dude!
Glad you got it worked out.
Okay, This worked. I got my range extender in the mail yesterday from eBay. I used this video for the set up. It wasn't easy and after about 90 min last night I gave up. Today with a fresh mind I got it. And like you said once set up you don't have to do it again. It works great and my signal bars and video transmission are much improved. Tomorrow I will add my Gamesir T1d controller to the mix. and test it further. I used an Samsung S7 Phone, one thing in your video that caused me some initial confusion was that you stated you were using an Apple phone. (I just ignored that part and proceeded with your instructions.) Thank You for this video.
Glad it worked for you.
Thanks for posting this I don't think I ever would have gotten mine set up if it wasn't for your video.
Awesome, glad it helped.
Hi, I found this tutorial very useful. However it took about an hour to work out how to add a device in the Mi Home app. I finally discovered that you have to click the + sign at the top right of the page when you are in the room home page . . . Thanks Chris
Thank you for your explanations, I had a hard time with my Tello and your video solved my problem. Thank you!!
Thanks for the great video. Now that my tello is set up it works with both the Tello and the Tello FPV apps. I've been to 99 feet and STILL have my Tello in one piece!
Whoa, sounds like you like to live dangerously 😂. Glad you got it all setup.
Thanks for the great video tutorials and reviews they are a pleasure to watch because they are easy to understand. I love my Tello. For it’s size and feature set it is by far the best drone out to date. I picked mine up for $100 and it came well-equipped with the quad, extra props, three batteries, a triple battery charger and other miscellaneous odds and ends. The video though 720p through WiFi is totally acceptable for making family memories and the wide angle photos it takes are simply outstanding. Obviously it’s not equipped to handle much wind but still for its size it’s amazing. I do use the Mi repeater if I am flying in an area larger than my backyard. I try to place the repeater central to where I’ll be flying and stand about 20-30 feet away.
Wow, now that was a great deal you got for $100. I usually give away most of my drones once I'm done reviewing them, but I won't ever get rid of this one. Big fan of the Tello. Glad the video was useful.
I live in Brasil, São Paulo.
I become your fan and Yesterday i get my new Tello.
Your're great person!!
Thank you for help me choice the best one for me.
God bless you!!
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Thank You, a Whole bunch!!! -I was seriously discouraged, trying to get my Xiaomi Mi Wifi 2 extender, watching other "how to" vids, finally, after carefully following your clear direction, I am so very pleased that I had success with making use of the WiFi extender with my Hubsan H216A, Thank you for making this vid, -will follow and looking forward to liking more of your vids! Blessings and Shalom :-)
Glad it helped, God bless and Shalom!
Finally someone who can explain every step go the process. Thank you so much. You just gained a follower.
Awesome, I'm glad it helped. Thanks for the sub as well, I appreciate that.
Thank you very much for this very detailed tutorial !!!! I've just bought my Tello, but I'm already in love with it !!!!
Very good. I have a little different repeater but your video cleared the way for me to “get it” ! Thank you
You're welcome!
My Galaxy 5s didn't need a password. I got the plus on the reboot and my FPV is much smoother. I ran my route through the kitchen 3 times in a row without crashing. TY man Love your stuff..
Yeah I've heard from a few guys that they didn't have to do all of the steps. Glad you got it going.
2020 and still works great!!
Awesome, so glad to hear that.
I have seen several videos on how to connect the wifi extender to the Tello, and they're all quite difficult to understand. Perhaps, it's in the way on how they present it. But yours, it's all as clear as crystal. Thanks, Gadget Inspector!
Glad to hear that; that's exactly why I make these kind of videos. Thanks for the feedback.
Jesus that was complicated!! I needed the help of another video as well, but we got there in the end! Thanks dude
Glad you finally got it. Enjoy!
I'll try to provide updates in the comments as folks let me know about them. Xiaomi has updated this app a few times since I made this video, so some things have changed. Please check the comments below for updates. A couple of viewers have been getting errors even though the connection was successful, so as long as you see a blue light you know the repeater is connected even if the app gives an error.
Thanks for making this video!! I watched a different one but it wasn't as well made as yours. I appreciate your time and effort put into making this!!
Thanks for the video saved me LOADS of time. I found the only problem was after setup and re connecting for normal use. From another video i found this work every time. 1 power up MI extender. 2 Power up Tello then wait for the BLUE connected led on the MI extender. 3. Select wifi ####_plus on your smartphone. 4 Start Tello app and your away. Thanks again for your time putting this together.
Thank you so much for this video. I have a Tello and one of these repeaters coming soon. Can’t wait to try it and because of your video I know I’ve got a good chance 😃 Have a great day and keep up the great work.
Thanks for your great videos on gadgets, too! I had one major problem with the Xaiomi I want to let you and your subscribers know about. I wasted several hours, nothing seemed to work. Bottom line, I was trying to get this configured at my desk...right below my TP-Link router. It’s string RF signal was overloading the receive side of the Xaiomi. I moved everything to another location and everything went flawlessly. Wish you were my neighbor! Needless to say, I subscribed.
Thanks for the sub Bob and glad the video was helpful. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this tutorial. Just got my repeater in today and couldn’t figure it out fully by myself. My daughter is going to love me even more now. Off the subject I can’t wait till my Skydio 2 comes in around April or the second quarter of 2020. GAME CHANGING DRONE!!!
Between the Mavic Mini and the Skydio 2 releases, the Skydio is definitely the more intriguing drone. Glad the tutorial helped on the Tello. Still my favorite little drone.
Tip I found out for better video, when connected to the Tello dont connect to wifi first. First open the Tello app and click on connect and it will open WiFi and connect. I use the same repeater. I have been getting better video quality by opening the app first after plunging in the booster cut the Tello on then open app and go from there much less dropp out with the video.
Great video keep it it up.
Thanks for sharing the tip.
No problem. Keep up the good videos!!!!
Thank you for a very clear explanation,I had done it 6 months ago and somehow it needed to be reloaded again and not remembering the steps. So all works fine now.
Awesome, glad it helped.
thank you so much every video they say connect tello to mi repeater but doesnt explain anything so this helps a lot
Glad it helped.
Got it to work (eventually) but it's worth noting that the app shows an error once it's copied the Tello signal. My app said that it was "out of range." If you go back once you've received this message then all works fine. As soon as you see the solid blue light and the Tello_Plus wifi is available then it's worked
Thanks for the tutorial. It took several tries to get it to take the password when connecting to the -plus repeater, but once it did, it worked.
Glad it helped.
Thanks to this tutorial, I got it to work! (The 1st time I did the copy step, the light didn't turn blue but the 2nd time it did!)
Awesome, that's just what I want to hear.
Thank you for this, excellent explanation on how to connect even with the new Mi firmware I managed to figure it out. Thank you so much.
You're welcome!
Good thing you did it the 2nd time you explain you had to connect to quad first before you do the connection to the xiomi app...Thanks great video..
Hi GI...still relevant and excellent video in June 2020! Going straight to buy you a coffee for the time I KNOW this video saved me. Thankgiving for the wise counsel. Peace.
I got it my friend...blown away by your generosity. Thank you so much. God bless you.
This video is stored in my library and once again proved helped me fix my inadvertent password mistake.
1:12 Damn I thought you dropped that wifi repeater back into place so nicely, but got dissapointed when it was just an edit
😂
Great review and demo I already set mine up way back but will save this to my favourites to jog my memory if I ever need to do it again 👍's up
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together, I really appreciate it!
You got it, glad it was useful.
So I get to the part where in Mi Home I choose the wi-fi I want it to extend, and I choose my Tello. I click next, and it goes through the following steps: Connecting device, Sending message to device, Connecting device to network. I cant get it to connect to the network, that part always times out and then I cant carry on with the set-up. It just asks for me to try again.
EDIT: Ok so this is because there is no internet access. If you just close the app (ignore it saying you'll be cancelling the setup if this appears) then it actually does work. Right now I'm connected to the drone through the extender. Now just gotta test the range increase :P
Same deal with my setup. The blue light comes on but the app fails to complete; because it can't see the Internet?
Same here
@@MrEye4get i kep ttrying and made sure the phone didnt connect to another wifi. in the end it said failed but the repeater showing a blue light and it worked!
Thank you so much! I had read in someone's review on Amazon, that you had the best video for explaining how to set this up. I followed your instructions to the letter and it worked beautifully. Who would have thought it?!! Great job!
Glad to hear the steps still works. Xiaomi updated their app since then. Thanks for the feedback!
@@GadgetInspector it is a little different but the basic steps still work.
Yeah! Finally! Got mine working on Android. Thanks!!!
Glad it helped!
Just bought a zerotech dobby drone online today. I also bought the wifi extender. Hope this works so I could get a longer range on my drone.
As long as it uses a 2.4ghz wifi signal it should work.
Very nice job! I think even my wife could have set it up with these directions!
Lol...
Thank for you absolutely perfect instructions. I've been struggling with this for awhile and thanks to you, I was successful :)
Excellent...glad it helped.
Just tested. Must have ithem for TELLO. The image on the smartphone is much more stable and the distance is greater.
Glad it's still working after all these years.
Awesome thanks, I was able to set mine up following the instructions, now just need to do some range testing as I was only testing it at home.
Great to hear! Glad it helped.
Thanks Gadget Inspector for this video to set up the repeater! Only CZcams video that explains it so well that it actually was easy! You asked the question about not having to enter a password when re-assigning a non-hyphenated name to your Tello: Well, after I typed in my new name for the Tello, I pressed into the password field and a blinking cursor appeared, but I didn't type anything, I just hit OK. A dialog came up asking me if I wanted to use a null password, and I said OK! That was that. After rebooting my Tello, the correct name came up in my WiFi choices and all was good!
Awesome! That's just what I wanted to know. Thanks for sharing.
🔴This was most helpful. Thank you! Otherwise to understand the complex Chinese software is a big irritation.
Like anything from China, the hardware is good, software sucks.
Simple straight explanation in the video helped a lot.
Glad it helped. Instructions could definitely be better on a lot of these products.
@@GadgetInspector yea..surely they could do this if they wanted. Maybe they are frowned upon by their peers if they cater to the Americans too much..don't get it. So many other Chinese products with great support.
Thank you sooo much. You have a voice for radio, and radio we all need to do this. Thanks.
Thanks, I appreciate that. I have been toying with the idea of doing a podcast.
Very nice. Thanks
Thanks for the video it is very useful, the app isn't very intuitive an it was very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Oh man! What a hassle! But thanks! Even though I was getting a timed out message, I still got the blue light and a connection. Thanks again
Glad it helped!
You're the man! Thanks for the help.
Thank you so much for your very excellent step-by-step instructions. You rock!
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ty Bro! Great vid ;) Now its working thanx to you! I'llshare your video on several forums ;)
Wow, glad this vid is still relevant after all these years. Thanks.
Thanks bro..it still works..😊😊
OUTSTANDING lecture. Be Blessed.
Amazing video! Thanks for the instructions.
Excellent, glad it helped.
Super informative, thanks Gadget Inspector
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you this would have been very hard without you.
Awesome, glad it helped.
The Mi wifi repeater range extenders go for about $12. *Find it here:* amzn.to/2tRTYq7.
Hi mate, mine tells that the "connection timed out". While trying to connect the extender using the mi app. Any clues on how to fix that?

Glad it helped. Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much. It took me a couple of try. But I got it.
Glad it helped!
@@GadgetInspector yes it did my brother. I'm hoping they put that follow me app on the Android store. Now I'm starting to have lots of fun with the tello.
Best video by far on you tube! Thanks!
Thanks Richard, I appreciate that. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for the Xiaomi setup help video. Mine now works as advertised.
Excellent, glad to know it helps.

Thanks for such a clear and easy tutorial to follow
You got it Geoff, glad it helped.
Thank You for the instructions. They were very helpful even though I am an Android user.
Awesome, I'm glad to hear it works for Android as well.
Inspector:
That's OK - thank you for your help to one & all!
I'm brand new at this... so my question is - what do you do with the wifi repeater now? Does it hook into/onto the transmitter? Nice video. Very seldom is much said about the 2.4/5.8 wifi signals and knowing which phone had which signal to work with the FPV camera feed. Thanks for sharing.
I usually just place it on the ground or if there's a table next to me. I angle the repeater so that it's facing the direction I'm flying the Tello. I did a test flight a while ago here: czcams.com/video/gxOUK3c0bIE/video.html
works perfect with dji tello.
Yes it does.
first off, great video, got mine working, but didn’t extend range or make anything better
infact it made the rage shorter, so far my tello has been a complete waste of money sadly, should of got a spark
Hmm, sorry to hear that. Very strange indeed.
Very good info. Waiting for the same repeater to arrive and will certainly use your guide. Thanks 👍
Thanks Glenn.
Thank you! Works
Glad it got you all set up.
Your instructions were spot on. Thank you sir!
Excellent, glad it helped.
Maranatha???? The dronelord will return???? :-D
Great video with very clear instructions. Thank you.
Awesome, glad it helped.
Thank you for this video. I'm going to try this with the Fimi x8 se 2020 once I find a portable 5ghz repeater.
Thanks! This helped heaps! Works really well too!! Super happy 😃
good tutorial, just an FYI for people with the DJI spark the Mi 2 will never actually connect to 100%. The app will always time out. It will still clone your settings but it won't offically work. Its annoying because it works but you will not be able to change it to wifi repeater mode in the app
Hello mate! Thanks a lot for the video. It was really helpful. Thank you very much for taking the time to make it. I couldn't find any other useful way to set up my devices. Thanks again and keep up the excellent work

My device creates a new network but the light wont turn blue so it is not properly configuring any advice?
Gadget Inspector
The app wouldn’t allow me to use my email address to register although the option was there.
It repeatedly told me:
“not available (indistinct)”
...so after about 15 mins trying, I have up and used my telephone number, and it worked.
On another note, do I have to go through the whole - same - procedure before then setting up a controller to use with the Tello instead of my iPhone?
I also don't see Beijing anywhere
@@BlueShadow777 The controller connects via bluetooth, so it doesn't interact with the repeater at all.
OMG SOOOOOO MANY STEPS LIFE WAS NOT MEANT TO BE EASY
lol....
when doing something tach, do't think of it as so mane steps,
just think of it as step1 and step2 and step3 and so on, dont think of it as all one thing, makes it a lot more easy to get it done..
