As an (insignificant) member of the "endlesss community family" I would like to thank you for speaking very respectfully about the end of a great project.
But I would also like to say that things like audio latency did not play a role in endlesss. Without getting technical, let me describe it this way: imagine a friendly and mutually trusting community of like-minded people, talking (musically) to each other. While someone is "speaking" you listen to what they have to say and then react by sending your own "musical message" or "musical response". While happening, members of this community come and go spontaneously, so there is constant variety and mutual stimulation. There were breathtaking moments in endlesss, and this, the musical conversation among each other, had a unique quality and is equal to that of playing music together live in every aspect.
Imagine an endlessly running tape (not sure if this is where the name comes from). Even after days and weeks you could return to a musical idea, what we might call in language an important thought, of you or someone else, and develop this "thought" from its origins in further or a completely new way. In this sense, this long, endless exchange, endlesss was much more than a tool for music. Endlesss was the foundation for a vibrant, creative, wonderful community of people.

Interesting listening to the Endlesss because there a few things you miss about Endlesss BUT that 100% isn’t on any of you, it more speaks to how hard it was for Endlesss to express its own magic.
I mean Endlesss wasn’t a live collaboration tool, you’re not playing at the same time… more like a room full of people playing tennis, batting rifffs back and forth, turn based combat almost.
Essentially Endlesss solved the latency / timing issues by side stepping it entirely.

I love to drone because of how meditative it can be. Building a soundscape and wall of sound that slowly and constantly changes timbre is like a cheat code to letting all those thousands of other thoughts and bothers drift away.
Engage my doing brain and shut off my thinking brain.

I sometimes make a evolving drone on my modular when doing repairs, schematic drawing or PCB design. They are interesting enough to not annoy me but don’t take up all my mental capacity like listening to good music.

Oh, and for a recommendation of pleasant listening drone music, Loscil just dropped a new album. Listening atm. Very mellow.

Yoad, the instrument you have could also be a Geomungo, which typically does have frets, but also has a very warm and fat sounds like you describe, or a it could be a Guzheng, which is basically a Chinese Koto, although they are known to be even brighter, I believe.

    • @Yoad_Nevo

Thanks! I think it is a Guzheng indeed

The full livestream with Benge is up on Coastal Electronauts CZcams channel if anyone would like to see his performance (about 2hr31m in) and all the other amazing performers that evening at The Gulbenkian Theatre. It was our 2nd annual International Drone Day event and pleased to say it’s getting more popular each time

Great show and i agree with most of the points about Drone Music. Drones are cool BUT they need to go somewhere and some "Drone Artists" don't go anywhere why their drones.
Alessandro Cortini "Sonno" album with the Roland MC-202 + pedals and the "Forse" series with the Buchla Easel are great examples of how you can create ambient music with, like Nick said, a pop sensitivity.

QQ for Stimming: Any idea of what’s happening with MFB’s legacy products? I still wanna stab myself in the eye with a 1/4 inch jack for not getting the Tanzbär mk1.
NB. Stimming’s video on it very enjoyable.

    Re. Drone Day...
Yoad, I think you should set up synth drones on all your hardware synths, and mix into the Neve! How cool would that be, with the EQs and Filters and Drive on each channel - "playing the desk".
If you feel somehow guilty for not meditating, then I prescribe that you indulge in the flow-state meditation of 32 channels of Neve playing synth drones some Sunday afternoon! 🙂

@@magicalsynthadventure3216 Nobody pointed out your disability but you, I have autism as well, thanks for making me feel bad for wanting & TRYING to be better, and well done you for blaming something that can't be helped. Maybe TRY being better rather than just putting the blame and responsibility for your actions on something can't be changed, that nobody can know about you without you pointing it out to them and which absolves you of all blame for any of your actions.
