What tricks are you excited to teach to your dog?

My girl is new to me and was a stray. She is just getting used to being with us but we are weaving sit into our day as appropriate. I am looking forward to her feeling a little more at home with us so we can start something like spin. Thank you for this great video.

This is super helpful and clear, thank you!
After Puppy Preschool, we and our 5 month old puppy have Sit, Lay down, Spin, Go to Bed, Leave It, Take It, Heel (to turn by your side), and sort of With Me (loose leash walking) and Stay figured out, but I’m excited to add these extras, and look for others to start working on!

Can "Good boy" be as effective as yes as a marker? I find that is my default but it certainly gets used more than just a marker related to specific tasks

Any word or short phrase can be an effective marker. The key here is consistency - as long as you say it the same way each time, it could work. But the “marker” should only be used to mark, not in other situations too. If you want to give praise, do it! But doubling as marker too may lose some of its potency.

It may be a bit too early for trick training Antonio, but keep at it. It can take 3 months for a dog to really show their true colors after coming into a new home! 🤯

I think you should not say the new command like ”touch” or sit before the act if the dog does not know it? I would say sit exactly when the dog sits and click immediately. Then the dog combines the word and action. No use of ”spoiling” and using any word if they don’t know it yet. Teach first the action with clicking/rewarding, after that add the word few times for the dog to learn it.

I actually discussed this exact process in this video. It’s important to get a behavior kickstarted and fluent before you “name” it! 👍🏻
