Mancala is a 2 person strategy game. This overview explains the basic rules which may vary by family, state, or country. Refer to the official instructions for details.
The way i learned to play Mancala was in 5th grade during the before school morning program in the cafeteria, and when the last stone lands in yourn mancala yes you go again, but if your last stone lands in an empty hole, your turn is over and if your last stone lands in a full hole, you pick up the stones and keep going til the last one is in an empty hole.
She’s playing the right way. This is exactly how it is described on the manual if you all bought the damn game. I don’t play like this and never have but I’m reading the Manual and it’s exactly how she’s doing it
My five year old received this game as a gift, and I had never heard of it before. The included instructions were...not very good, I thought. Watching your video helped clarify the instructions and we just got done playing! It was so simple and so much fun! Thanks for sharing!
Some historians believe that mancala is the oldest game in the world based on the archaeological evidence found in Jordan that dates around 6000 BCE. The game might have been played by ancient Nabataeans and could have been an ancient version of the modern mancala game.
This mancala variant is an American one and the most widely recognized one in the US. Though, I think this one is based on mancala variants from North Africa and the Middle East. The variants from sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean have more complex rules.
We play that if your last stone lands in a bucket with stones in it you take those stones and keep going until you land in a empty bucket then your turn is over
That is a variation, yes. It's a super old game so there's bound to be differing rules. I like the videos version personally but really it all just comes down to the age old question of "are you having fun?"
Southeast Asia has many variations of these games, like Chess it spread far and wide. The one in my country Sungka uses tiny seashells and in some occasions pebbles. And we use 7x7 instead of the 6x6 mancala, the ammount of shells/stones is 49 for both sides. Also we go clockwise instead of the traditional counter clockwise.
Well actually I started to watch this video so I can tell people how to ay mancala in English too because I know this game but I know the mancala terms in my language, so I can't teach a person who doesn't know my language. I know this game very well and I played it for years, and according to the way I learned as the traditional way, she has one wrong thing and she has lackings too. As an example; when you take the stones, if they're more than one, you must always leave one stone in the holes. And there's a rule which is not in this video: if your last stone comes at the your opponent's hole and it doubles it, you can take those stones and put to your stone-hole or something like that. Yes, mancala has so much way to play but this video is not pretty good because it's close to the traditional way to play but it has lackings so it's deficent but more simple.
There are many different rules but these are the rules I recently learned. I like ancient games like this. I work with wood as a hobby and would like to make my own board like this. I'm also wanting to make my own Mills board as well.
My math teacher in 8th grade had this in her classroom. The other students and I would play it if we finished our assignments before class ended. Found an old set in my parents house and had to look this up to remember the rules. Thank you. 🙏
According to the directions that come with the game, if your last Stone lands on your side in an empty space, and the opponents side has pieces in it, you take those pieces and put them in your mancala, but it does NOT say to add your piece as well (your final piece that ended in the empty space).
I'm 33 and we were always taught to play going to the left. So looking at the board, the left big cup is my home cup and the large cup on the right is the opponents home cup. This blew my mind that we've been going in the wrong direction for YEARS! 🤣🤣🤣
SHEEPLE THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE RIGHT WAY TO PLAY. NOT JUST BY CONTINUING WHERE YOU LAST PLACED YOUR STONE, THERE'S NO ORDER IN THAT WHAT ARE YOU THINKING. YOU SHOULD HAVE A FAIR AND INTELLECTUAL TIME WITH THIS EXCELLENT OLD GAME SHOW IT SOME RESPECT AND HAVE SOME DIGNITY THIS GENERATION I SWEAR TO GOD
*At **1:29**....when you drop your last marble on the opponent's side....since it is empty....can you "capture" the stones across it? (which in essence is your side.)*
My friend taught me that if you land in your “bucket”, your turn ends there. And no matter where it is, if you land in an empty space, your turn ends. I am so confused
So I’ve been playing wrong my entire life? I played that you continue your turn until you drop a stone in an empty bucket . For example if your last stone dropped in any bucket with at least one stone , you pick up all the stones in that bucket and continue your turn like that until you land in a bucket with no stones. Damn I’ve been playing it like that since I was like 10.
The last part.. When she got that single stone and put it in her side and then put the other stones in her back threw me off.. I don’t remember doing that in mancala
The Fazo Fam yeah but i guess we all play it in different ways, I usually get the beads in a bucket when I land on it and if I land in an empty bucket, it’s the other persons turn, I guess we all play differently
Have you ever played `awale`? There are many this game`s experts in the world . But it is not for kalaha.Mancala have many hundred of the rule, but `awale`rule is not famous I think so. Awale is more tactical game than kalaha, I think so too.
I grew up playing mancala in your playing it wrong you're not supposed to drop one in the big mancala slot you're supposed to keep going around until you have one being in your hand left and you drop it down and where you drop it whatever if there's a pot a big pile of little stones on the other side of that that's the stones you pick up and put in your mancala spot
This is not how you play. As you see she drop her last marbel n da last cup in it had marbels in it so she was suppose to keep going until her marbels ends in a cup that's empty
I just whatched this and this is not how you play. If theses were the rules and both players play optimally then every game is the same and the winner is determined by who goes first. Take your own advice. Read the rules again . And please take this vid down. These rules make no sense
Poor explanation. Don't watch this video if you've never played before, she'll just confuse you. Or at least watch more videos. Unfortunately, there are many variations of play, which does not help, but neither did her unplanned lesson plan. She was close with the common method of play, however, the order of rules and how it was shown is confusing. For example, near the end, she grabbed 4 stones and put them in random holes. Anyone who doesn't have a clue, would question the random holes she put the stones in. Or when she "tried" to explain that you can take four stones for landing in an empty hole. She Did *Not* Explain *WHY* you can take them. And was it just me or do she not even explain that gameplay goes counter clockwise? This looks like an impromptu video with little to no planning. If you don't know how to teach, *Don't* I know she's trying to help and making videos can take some time, but if it doesn't really help someone, than it hinders them and should be left up to those that know how to teach someone properly.
I grew up playing this in summer camp, and randomly thought of it! Brings back memories
i did too! i bought this game again cause i miss playing it and it brings back memories 🥰
ME TOO!
Same ! 😅 such a fun game. Even when we played speed !
So did I!

Right? Same here. Now I'm confused.
This is way to do it as a child, since the original is more thought provoking
Right thats how we played ...I've never heard it played like she saying
Me too. This video is wrong
This is how i played.
Me here trying to win in iMessage 👁👄👁
Right lol I use to play it in school when I was little

She is not playing it wrong. There are many ways to play. This is the original way to play
Lauren Rhoads no it is not original way
Original way is traditional one
shes playing it the wrong way just like you

That the way we played in elementary lol
Bro that’s avalanche, this is capture

"You're playing it wrong." -Guy who went to a Mancala tutorial, a tutorial to LEARN Mancala.

And i dont care!!!!
this made me laugh hard. Thank you.
This seems to be the most popular way to play but isn't the player with stones left on his side at the end supposed to put them in his mancala?
There are many different rules but these are the rules I recently learned. I like ancient games like this. I work with wood as a hobby and would like to make my own board like this. I'm also wanting to make my own Mills board as well.

Found an old set in my parents house and had to look this up to remember the rules. Thank you. 🙏
This is the correct way to play. The other way that people talk about is super broken and gives a major first player advantage.
According to the directions that come with the game, if your last Stone lands on your side in an empty space, and the opponents side has pieces in it, you take those pieces and put them in your mancala, but it does NOT say to add your piece as well (your final piece that ended in the empty space).
Yes it says "all the glass stones captured including the capturing stone are placed in the players own mancala"
She is right and this is a simple straightforward explanation.
There are other variations of the same game which makes it confusing.
Just like sungka. With wooden board and instead of stones, we use tiny seashells.
I'm 33 and we were always taught to play going to the left. So looking at the board, the left big cup is my home cup and the large cup on the right is the opponents home cup. This blew my mind that we've been going in the wrong direction for YEARS! 🤣🤣🤣
Super helpful! Thank you !!!
thank you. your video was easy to understand.
Damn in camp we was taught differently 😱😱😱
SHEEPLE THIS IS ABSOLUTELY THE RIGHT WAY TO PLAY.

Dude... you’re losing your shit over the rules of a board game... let that sink in
This is the third instructional video I’ve seen on how to play this game and each video was different.
*At **1:29**....when you drop your last marble on the opponent's side....since it is empty....can you "capture" the stones across it? (which in essence is your side.)*
thanks for the instructions 🌻🌸🌺
It’s been over 12 years since I played . 1 round lasted less than a minute we were so fast!
Thank you 😊
What happens if the last stone goes into opponents empty bucket???
Thanks lady!
Thank you so much :)
Thank you!
I like the way you play ma’am
This is the way!
My friend taught me that if you land in your “bucket”, your turn ends there.
And no matter where it is, if you land in an empty space, your turn ends.
I am so confused
Awesome
I didn't understand the last move when she took all the stones from the other side.
YES THIS IS THE RIGHT WAY TO PLAY
Instructions unclear, ate the stones like candy.
So I’ve been playing wrong my entire life? I played that you continue your turn until you drop a stone in an empty bucket . I used to play this game all the time when I was little with my little sister and I need to remember how to play from iMessages
I’m your 1000th like
fun!😁
The last part.. When she got that single stone and put it in her side and then put the other stones in her back threw me off.. I don’t remember doing that in mancala

@@sunisii that is how I learned to play
Yess
when there's no more stones on one side, who gets the stones on the other side?
Both of you do.
I believe that those are not counted. You just count each other's mancalas and compare those two amounts to see who wins.
Good game
Still don't know hot to play it but it help me a bit ig😅
