- A quick video showing you how to play the Mancala based on the Westernised version of the rules. There are at least 200 variations of games recorded under the term Mancala so this is just one of many.
Please give this video a thumbs up if it helps you out.

So the way I used to play was if you landed in a pocket with beads in it, you picked those beads up and kept going. It was only the other persons turn if you landed in a pocket with no beads. I can't find any guides that follow these rules but thats how I distinctly remember playing.
There is many variations of the game
same here exactly
That’s how I learned too
Yes that is how we play it
right! Thats how I used to play it.. I was like something is different & thats what it is.. I guess ppl play different but thats how I remember playing it.
Finally. A CZcams video that shows the correct way to play. Thanks so much!
Me and my mother use to play this when I was a kid. Great game, great memories :)
I used to play this game so well I forgot all about it and just downloaded the app now I need to watch so I can remember the rules
Thanks for watching. Enjoy your game. 😁
Same
Fattt samee
What's the app called?
Damn, you kicked your ass!
he cheated, he knew he could get that honey pot so he didn't move it as the other player would have done so to prevent him getting all those points.
I am screaming 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
great video. with the rules that I leaned as a child, and still play by.
Thanks. I mention in the video there a lot of different rules but so many people who comment are quick to tell me the rules I’ve told them are wrong. 🤷🏻♂️
This is a Turkish game and it's my favorite game. I'm also a Turk and it makes me very proud that foreigners play this game and they really like it. I play this game very well and I really like that foreigners own this game.
It's actually African though bro.
at 239 you put a seed in an empty pit but didn't collect the opposite seeds for your mancala
Also at 2:49 he made the same mistake
@@rukiakuchiki5136 I think you don't take the opposing pit if you land on opponents empty pot, it has to be on your side
@@intercitty I thought he landed on his own pit?? 🤔
Then again I could have gotten confused in the mess of it all, with him being his own opponent and all...😂
Awwww loved this game! Woah u play it much different than I but love the colors and sounds. I played by myself quite a bit
I use to play this game in school. It was so fun!
Still is.
Came here cause I'm getting my ass whooped on the iMessage game.
Ezekiel Ortega Bruh me too😂💀
Ezekiel Ortega same
Ezekiel Ortega FIGHT ME IM THE BEST IN MANCALA I GOT A AWARD
Hope it helped you out. I've never seen this game on iMessage, how do you get it / play it?
You can get it on the app store and the app is called GamePidgeon
Nice.. Quite similar to the "opón ayò" game popularly played by the Yorubas of southwest Nigeria.
There is a capture version and a version that iMessage calls avalanche. I’ve only ever knew the “Avalanche” version since I was kid, so it’s cool to learn how other people play.
When I was a kid we played that the first person to empty their pits was the winnter... kind of like Uno I guess.
I am thinking that it doesn't make sense for the all the remaining stones (when one player's side is empty) to be placed in the store/mancala. The advantage from playing all your stones first should be that the opponent's stones are stranded. Any thoughts?
If your last stone falls in a pit occupied with stones you pick them all up and continue..not stop.
Robert Clark We only play it if your stone falls in the end pit. There's a million (ok maybe not that many) different ways people play this which is what I say at the start of the video. Thanks for watching.
That's the stripped back version, Robert. Good for playing with kids or those not capable of forming strategy.
Yeah, kind of sounds like you'd just take your turn and then virtually clear the whole board as soon as you start if you were playing like that.
Cogan video
That is how I remember playing as a kid as well.
In the US, most people play to where if your last stone lands in more stones, you pick those up and keep going
That's how I remember it too. I guess there's just different versions?
Thanks
what's the variation called when the last stone lands on a pit with stones occupying it and you pick all of that pile and keep going? I've looked everywhere since I was taught to play mancala this way and I'm now realising how different I play it
+Daisy Olivares No idea. There are so many different names and variations. Let’s come up with a name - ‘last pit stone grab’ sounds good.
Same I also played this way but it’s kind a unfair for whoever goes first
*unfair for whoever goes second
@@edaniel3155 in this variation you only keep going if the 'pit' with stones is on *your* side and you must take all the stones from the same pit on the next turn ONLY if you choose so... at least that's how I remember.
If your last stone lands in an empty pit with stones opposite, does it matter whether the empty pit was on your side or on your opponent's side, when it comes to winning both your stone and the opposite stones? Thanks!
For u to capture the stones the pit needs to be empty on ur side
Why didnt u take the other stones at 2:38.. idk when you are allowed to take it or not
0:56
Question, so does the stone have to land in a open one at the end of your turn for it to be a legal move to take the opponents stones out of the one horizontal to it?
In the version I play, the pit you land in has to be empty if you are to take your opponents stones on the opposite side.
Just Play So does it have to be on the last move that you can land in an empty space (remember on the last move) that it is a legal move to take my opponents stones.
Silent&RelaxingVideos yes
You get one move per turn normally, if you gain an extra move from a move then this rule still applies.
And still another variation that I learned in Spain and have been playing ever since then:
If your last piece lands in one of your own empty pits, you have the OPTION of moving the opponents pieces in the pit directly across the board to your pit, but your turn ends, AND, play ends when one players side is empty. That player gets all the pieces left in the opponents pits.
Many variations- so little time.
interesting. Where did you read that there are as many as 800 variations to the game?
Share your English It was on the sheet that cake with the game, I guess some of these variations are very slight for there to be 800.
This is a correct way to play this, but I remember playing a different way with my siblings when I was younger. Maybe there's more than 1 way of playing these? 😊
Bruh
he said there's hundreds of variations
Good video , at 2:53 you played your opponent hand and deposited a pebble in your own mancala by mistake. I know its was an error due to muscle memory by playing mostly one side, thanks for the video
Yeah, a bit of confusion when playing as 2 people. 🙂
Tysm for the tutorial. This was a lot clearer than many other videos that I have just checked out, but just a suggestion; can you please put your intro/outro song in the description, or else it would be plagiarism? Thanks.
Thanks for watching and the feedback. I always credit other creators where required. That intro was an very old addition but from memory there was no credit needed, there are many songs within the CZcams library that require no credit but if it does then ill be happy to add it in. There was a change to all video descriptions en mass on the channel so maybe it was lost during that action.
Can you only move seeds in your pits or can you move any of them?
You can only pick up the seeds from your pits but when they go around the other players side you can continue to place them in those.
@@CoganYT so if you continue round and finish in an empty pit with seeds on your side do you get to take them?
I want that game
wow look cool
You can buy it online or if you have a couple of egg boxes then you can use those, there are tutorials online showing you how to make a DIY version.
We manufacture this type of wooden game box for more information about it plz call us 7090567676/9743343484
I called it bawo it means monster
thx
Kinda sounds like an ancient form of checkers
this music is awesome as the game as well
Thanks for watching, glad you like. 👍🏼
@2:55 you put stones in both sides
2:10 You said you can take the stones from the opposite side if your stone lands in an empty pit. At 2:28 you didn't do that. Then on the next move you didn't do it. I'm a bit confused.
Don’t be confused, it was just complicated playing as 2 people.
Seems like this game is cousin of backgammon
I just made up my own version so I can understand the game better
Cool. How did you make it?
I’ve seen people use egg carton and stones or marbles before.
Cogan it’s not my board
Uncle marshall jacob aunty aku doug brochu
You are not stealing when you are playing your opponent side game
Yeah, it got confusing playing as 2 people.
@3:11 The game ends when no stones are on one side. I'm assuming that side that is empty is the winning side, correct? But if it's the winning side...why does the loser get all the remaining stones on his side dumped into the loser's mancala dish? ISn't that contradictory move?...by giving loser more stones????? Help me understand this. Anyone. thank you. 😊
The winner is the person with the most stones in their pit at the end of the game so this needs to be factored into your tactics. The person isn’t losing by the other clearing their side, they’re potentially winning, depending on their strategy.
@@CoganYT Thanks. I've seen so many videos this past few hours and they all have differing rules! lol For example: I saw some folks dropping their last stone into an empty pocket and didn't bother stealing the other players stones. lol
@@sylvia4425 Yeah, I think there are hundreds of variations of this game.
I came here from club penguin after a confusing defeat
I hope the video helped.
I was playing this game for years and ion play like that
You must be so fucking lazy from saying "I don't"...
He messed up at 3:00. Put the opponents turn into his own
And didn’t take the empty spots stones
cory gilpin He’s a total idiot.
I’ve never seen it played the way he’s playing it
There’s a first time for everything. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment.
I now feel like I was playing it wrong and taught it to my kids the wrong way. Lol at 39, I’m even learning new ways to play uno. Do you have a video on rules for uno?
@@missadkins5882 There are loads of variations so it may be you were just playing a different set of rules correctly and I’ve confused matters. 😂 I don’t have a video for uno but we do enjoy that game. Maybe I can do one for that in future.
Npe aq main congkak lain
You play Mancala wrong if you land on the other person side and there's something in his whole you go until you land in a empty space that's when it's the other players turn that is how you play Mancala
Maybe you're playing wrong.
thats how you play sungka in my country it might be different depending on where you're from
Seryna Figueroa there are two ways to play mancala traditional and avalanche. Your think of avalanche and Cogan is playing the traditional way
Thats so similar to sungka filipino game
Wrong wrong wrong. You go clockwise not counter clockwise. To the left hello
No my friend, you’re thinking of the Beyoncé song.
It is not an Arabic word!
I was just reading the text included with the game. It looks like 'nacala' is a word found in Arabic text though.
It is xd, funny to find an Arabic language scientist who put and takes off words while it's his mother tongue...
the root word is Nacala (نقل) means moved or changed position, which has many versions like adj and verbs which changes the sound of the word little bit as in English which ends in mancala (منقلة), we call the protractor mancala also which we use it in mathematical problems like drawing a perfect circle.
2:45 you didn’t give the other you his points.. 😆😆 why would you cheat the other you like that.. and why would you upload this video and not catch that error?
Timothy Jones I apologise so deeply. Will you forgive me Timothy?
Just play I'm sorry for being so rude I could of said it in a nicer way
Haha, no worries Aniyah.
Game Name : MANGALA(Turkish) I from turkey ! And You're playing Mancala wrong!
Mobilci Kardeş no he’s not
If you're in Turkey then you'd say it with a G perhaps, I'm not though so I don't and that's not what it said on the box. Thanks for the input.
Word!
Hey Person this is not how you play
Why you watching a video how to play a game you already know the rules to then? Maybe you could make your own 'definitive rules' video. Thanks for watching. :)
PS - Best get in touch with the games companies as they are the people who supplied the rules. Much love.
Just Play there’s multiple ways to play btw
Yeah I know, as I said in the video. You took the time to say this isn't how you play though.
Terrible video ;)
I'm only eight years old and I know how to play Mancala because that is not the way I play Mancala so I don't know what you're talking about first of all I don't even close
He SAID there are many variations!!
