A difference I like between Little nightmares and this game, Is that Little nightmares often feels very alone, Isolating, And desolate. But Darwake is positively brimming with little ghouls and freaks in every corner.
And you get a little owl companion! :)

Are the monsters and settings based on any cultural folklore or mythology?
I think the art style is inspired by the works of John Kenn Mortensen. His drawings usually have small children surrounded by huge monsters

It’s the art style that makes me think of Little Nightmares as well as the small child, big "adult" monsters dynamic.
They are dumb
To be fair... It's a little of both. You can die by an unknown-at-first bad choice, there are various objects to interact with, and there is a difference in foreground & background. The owl kinda reminds me of the eagle in the NES game 8 Eyes, and the "upcoming" ending music is a chord variant of the 1st Little Nightmares music (I think).
There appears to be an evolving "now you know the rest of the story" plot going forward. It has, to me, potential. 😊
The art kind of reminds me of Fran Bow! It's got that same unique charm :) I'm in love with it already!
Also everyone here calling this a copy of Little Nightmares probably hasn't even heard of Limbo or Inside which both predate Little Nightmares and also were horror themed sidescrolling games with an eerie atmosphere and a young main character.
They probably haven’t played either of those games or they just want to be the class clown here

Don’t expect the average gamer to have any sort of nuance or tact when it comes to comparing titles lol. Everything is “X, but Y” to them.
the art is by Anton Semenov, also known as "gloom2". years ago i commented on a lucky_bun stream of little nightmares 2 that it reminded me of gloom82. see his artowork titled "sunday evening", which includes a TV

@@LordKang Literally the only similarity is that they're both 2D horror platformers. Little Nightmares 2 is a 3D game with 3D character models and 3D environments. This is hand-drawn 2D with paralax backgrounds.

Awesome! I really like this, especially the art style. As for all the previous Little Nightmares comparisons, wasn’t it in 3D whereas this one has bitmap graphics? In fact, it feels more like coloured Limbo, if anything.

absolutely beautiful game, you can tell that a lot of effort was put into the art and story. the art style's giving Franbow mixed with Darkwood, but I will say there's very evident inspiration taken from the second little nightmares game, at least for the first half. incredibly reminiscent of The Hunter's forest, down to the general scene layout and themes. human remains scattered about, cages hanging from the branches, the general overgrown vibes, hell, using boarded up crates as platforming tools. but I do like that you've got creatures around every corner, makes the whole place feel a little more alive. it helps build to the surprise enemy after you try to enter the castle, because before then you're always on edge, unsure if somethings going to jump out at you or simply watch, as most end up doing. this makes the scare all the more impactful. it's definitely it's own thing, but it is similar to others in its genre as these kinds of games tend to be, all branching off of limbo or inside, but i appreciate it all the same. i hope it's expanded by the demo, as again it looks really good
Woah!! I this game continues to be made, thats are great news! I feel sorry when their Kickstarter campaing fail, but i remember they said they will continue making the game. Im happy for them cause this is indeed a good genre, its like Fran Bow meet Limbo.

Games reflect the developer’s host culture, you can tell the mental state of mind as well, this game is scary not because of the characters, but the artist intend.

Im very curious to know how they did the artwork, looks like photobashing and AI with overpaint, maybe they used 3D too, but if everything down to the stone texture is done by hand it's very impressive.

The art of this reminds me of samorost 😅 I'll try this game someday. I have so much work to do. When I'm free, I am always gaming some horrors alone at night. Horror games are the best

The song at the end is very reminiscent of the theme from Little Nightmares, and the starting level appears similar to the starting level in Little Nightmares 2. I also agree it has a similar feel to Limbo.
Such a strange style. Boss fights in an uncanny game. It does strike a little closer to limbo, but i'm more curious about the amount of symbolism.

I'm not seeing anyone say it so I'll just go ahead. The art style appears to that of the horror artist Anton Seminov. It's so dead on to his style I imagine he must be either a collaborator or the lead artist.

По геймплею, рисовке и концепции это напоминает кроссовер "Кошмариков" и "Kreappy Tale", а еще тут много человекообразных существ, некоторых из которых можно использовать в решении задач и преодалении препятствий. - Это уже больше напоминает " Scorn".
Ну а еще эта игра сразу н говорит, что история происходит внутри головы (бреда, комы, предсмертных видений г.г.?), но менее интересно от этого не становится.
