After going through the SAME experience (Cali girl slandering NYC and thinking I could never live there), I spent more time in different neighborhoods of Brooklyn and discovered it's way less fast-paced than Manhattan, but still only a 15-20 minute subway into the center of it. Long story short, now I live in Brooklyn and love it so much!! Never say never :)
Same!! I love New York, but having visited many times, I'd never want to live there. It's such a treat to pop in for a bit and soak it all up, then pack up and leave lol.
I'm also a Cali girl, and I occasionally think about living in NY and then remember that I am not cut out for fast-paced life, even for like a year lol. I do love the accessibility of everything though, and I hope that one day LA will get their shit together and reinvest in public transit and general urban planning that actually makes sense.

I went to NYC for the first time ever this month too! I miss it so much, my 3 1/2 days there was not enough. I definitely miss being able to walk everywhere because you're right, making plans to go anywhere in CA is always a mission.
