- #vanlife From the Arctic abyss of Norway into Finland to explore the Russian borderlands. Surviving my First Arctic Winter of Extreme Van Life. Alone in Hurricane, Blizzard, Snow Storm & Camping in Extreme Cold Freezing Temperatures. I found a border on Google Earth that I wanted to check out. I travel I travel towards the remote border in the foresty regions to get a feeling for the area, and also out of curiosity after which I continue to Arctic Sweden and back to Norway. I cook burritos and make pulled pork sandwiches, and find a new favourite beer, a Finnish alcohol-free IPA.
Come along as I continue my road trip through the remote arctic regions of Norway, Finland, Russia and Sweden. I film all my Travel Documentaries in 4K/HDR.

My van is a Fiat Ducato, FWD with Nokian Hakkapalitta studless Winter Tires. This is the same as a Ram Promaster in America - USA and Canada, but with a diesel engine and manual transmission.

Thank you for a relaxing channel
24:00 There should really be an Academy Award for this genre of CZcams videos. Thanks Jarl.
That would be awesome Pete, I know several industry leaders are calling for an Emmy or an Oscar for independent creators on CZcams, I just dont think it would be possible to find the best videos lol!
Boy, I'll tell you so far.Nothing is as stunningly beautiful as Norway. Amazing scenery, Other side of the world for me.I'm in portland oregon but boy go drive in through norway can't be beat. What a great trip❤
Thank you Teri!
You succeed in showing us what the arctic tundra is in winter, whiteness, naked birches, evergreen pinetrees, infinite landscapes, and lakes.... Then you take us inside your van, en we feel cosyness, and warmth. We meet a happy host, preparing a tasty wrap, we watch a quiet man looking tv under his warm scandinavian plaid.... Thanks to you, Jarl, we can visit beautiful Scandinavia with its northern lights.... and this from our armchair !
Thank you Regine:-) hope you enjoy it!
I enjoyed a lot, as I enjoy all your adventures... !😆
Thank Gods we can travel online.. So many us are trapped in our lives and country we did not a thing wrong.. We are just born with no record of being born
That is true!

Awesome! Thank you!
Another beautiful video my evening is perfect again
Awesome! Thank you!
Да это верно подмечено.
Your resilience and adaptability in the face of the Arctic's extreme conditions are truly inspiring. Watching you navigate through the winter van life, especially after such an intense blizzard and snowstorm, has been an eye-opening experience. The way you've embraced the solitude of solo camping and turned it into an opportunity for growth is remarkable. Looking forward to more of your adventures!
Thank you so much my friend!
I just love watching your videos. I’m so impressed with the nice looking meals that you make inside a van. You do better cooking than I do in my own kitchen.
Haha, thank you, I get many complaints about having an unhealthy diet, that I delete of course lol

@@NorwegianXplorer Ich Danke dir mein Freund. Mein Ziel ist es,dich irgendwann zu besuchen oder dich zu begleiten auf einer deiner Reisen.
Das wäre mein Traum .
Great, thank you:-)
Just … WOW! Beautiful video, as usual😎
Thank you! Cheers!
What a bleak black/white landscape in Finland and Sweden. Then, the return to Norway! Color! Northern Lights! Arctic skies! Amazing how porous the borders are, except for Russia, of course. Another wondrous trip!
Finland didnt have the benefit of sunshine this time lol:-)
Beyond amazing . Professional quality videos & your own experience is yours alone . Glad you share it
Glad you enjoy it!
Norwegian Xplorer never disappoints. The road view at 59:42 is absolutely breathtaking. Funny, when you put the whole container of pulled pork in the pan, I thought to myself 'Is he really going to eat all that in one meal?' And then you said "That's a lot, I'll save some for later" There really is something so soothing watching the landscapes going by with the view from your front window. Jarl, a quick recipe idea for you(and everyone else),
Mango quesadillas
Slice fresh mango
Some shredded pepper jack cheeese some fresh cilantro
Put the three ingredients between two flour tortillas.
Pan fry on high heat using peanut oil, fry a few minutes on both sides .Let drain off and cool down on paper towels. Trust me, they are incredibly delicious and very easy to make 😋 👌
Thanks my friend, there was a lot more in that container than what it looked like lol, I had 3 meals from that pile lol
Watching is just like being there.
Awesome, thanks!
Another wonderful video Jarl, thank you! Thank you for taking us along so that we can experience this incredible trip with you. I hope you can enjoy it yourself in between taking video and editing.
Many thanks! I enjoy everything about this life!
when i take my treadmill class at the gym, there is an option to play CZcams videos without sound. i watch your videos during those times as well as other times. your videos are always so beautiful and peaceful and a testament to God's creations. ❤
Oh nice, I really appreciate that, so awesome! Thank you🙏
That was crazy beautiful!! Like another world. I am so glad that I am getting to see places that I never thought I would see. Thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed it my friend!
Very exciting to be able to view all of the different scenes thanks to you Jarl! I enjoy watching! It's a different life out there on the road. Stay safe out there! Thank you for sharing the adventures with us!
Thank you my friend!

Awesome! Thank you Jarl!
My pleasure!
Absolutely Beautiful 💚🤍💚🤍
Thank you kindly
TAK for endnu en flot oplevelse i det nordiske landskab !!
Takk for at du ser på!
So white Finland .I love the music on the way to Inari. I would like to see inside the grocery store. We had a viewing of the northern lights here in Washington recently but not near the Olympic mountains where I live. I hope someday to see them personally. Your background music is a balm for the soul. I sigh as transported to your snowy world. Thanks for taking us all along. God bless, drive careful, be safe.
Thank you so much Candy, I need to remember to film inside a grocery store at one point
awesome scenery as always, always surprises me how people can live so far away from people in an area that gets so cold and so much snow that you can't even get out side for weeks on end. be safe out there, waiting to see your u.s.a. video's from your up coming trip. South Texas fan.
Tell me about it Clint, but it is awesome!
I’m not sure why, but for some reason I love the snow videos. I live in the mountains and get snow every year, and really do not even like snow!
Haha, that is a funny situation, I myself have come to love winter much more after this arctic tour, cant wait to get started again in the fall with another arctic adventure.
Exceptional scenes. Thank you from the southmost parts of Europe.
Thank for watching!
You know Jarl when you mentioned about being on the borders of these beautiful countries I was already jittery about being so close to the Russian border. I don’t like feeling that way, but World events sadden me. Beautiful drone shots. The skies and moon were stunning….. and of course being able to see and capture the Northern lights is very mystical and soothing. Stay safe my friend! Entering Sweden was awesome looking.💫✨✌️❤️
Thanks my friend, I agree, it is sad what humans are capable of, I would love to see some of the nature on the other side, but I think that is a lost cause for now
Beautiful scenery.
Thanks for visiting
Stunning scenery ❤
It really is!
It always makes my Saturday evenings when I see your latest video pop up. Just a bit confused as this was from February and I had already watched videos from April.
Arctic Norway definitely looks more beautiful than Finland. Now we wait to travel to Sweden 🤩
Thank you kind Sir for sharing with all of us 🤗
Thank you!
I love everything about your videos. I especially love watching the cooking 🧑🍳 yummo ❤❤
Thank you so much 😊
Exceptional video!!! Tzatziki is the main ingredient of greek souvlaki which i love it. Many greetings from Greece.
Awesome! Thank you! Souvlaki is great!
How can you be so brave in those conditions? You are all by yourself !😧
Nothing difficult about these conditions
Another beautiful adventure Jarl ! I don't know how your van stays so shiny and clean looking with all the miles you've been driving. Mine doesn't ever look like that except for the day I wash it. After 2 days it's dirty again! Lol. Such gorgeous scenery and love watching you cook! So relaxing. Have fun and stay safe ❤
It is quite salty at this point, but whenever there is a massive snow storm it gets cleaned and shiny, like polish
Excellent video.some beautiful pictures
Many thanks
Looking forward to your summer videos.
Me too!
Get your cozy on with Jaal. OMG... I just want to go and do what you're doing. I guess I need money lol.
Its so beautiful.
Go for it!
Great Vedio
Thank you so much!
Как всегда шикарное видео. Респект.
Thanks Sergey!
🌲❄Hey there Norwegian Xplorer,
Wow! As always, another wee masterpiece created & shared.
I love the Arctic conditions, the wide open spaces & seeing natures magic & almost everything blanketed in icing sugar like snow, is just wonderful & beautiful.
A relaxing & serene environment when calm, but can quickly turn inhospitable @ the flick of a switch!
Nonetheless, when this happens, you always appear to handle it like the true pro that you are!
I've visited Russia before, but I've never visited Finland, although I will visit some day soon.
In reference to groceries, we so enjoyed shopping weekly across Stockholm, Oslo & Bergen. Much fun & I saw many things & tried many treats that I don't see where I live, albeit in our international food aisle, we do have quite a good selection of Scandinavian foods & snacks.
Tusen takk for sharing & here's wishing you well.
Peace✌
Thanks my friend! You are from Ireland right?
Thank you for another great video, greetings from the Netherlands.
Thanks for watching!🙏
Your videos are so interesting .My ex was of Finnish decent his father was Finnish .I have heard it’s a beautiful country.
It is indeed a beauitful country, with beautiful people!
I'm really keen to watch tonight your video on a part of the world that I really want to see one day. To be able to watch your experience travelling through it is amazing, especially knowing how much effort and care you put into your videos capturing amazing drone footage and sharing your experiences being on the road.
Hope you enjoyed it my friend!
Fantastic. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us! Beautiful and love the storms. “Pop back into Norway!’ Love it!
Glad you like them! Thank you!
Heyy Jarl after the snow storm in the last video I thought you were finish with snow 😂awesome aerial footage beautiful scenery love the northern lights, thanks for taking us along on your Arctic adventure and as you pop back into Norway stay safe
Hey Sonia, that freak snow storm was in April, now I am back to the Arctic tour again, which still has 4 or 5 more episodes to go through March and April.
Thanks for the empathy, watching your video, from tel aviv israel
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your videos. You are an inspiration to me. I live in the united states and in the Deep South. I have always wanted to witness what you share. If only I could afford to visit the places you do. Thank you again.
Hey Michael, thanks for watching all the way from the deep south!
Beautiful
Thanks Ruth!
The opening scenes from cold weather ☁️, rain and Chef's preparation of a masterful culinary delight was EPIC, had NO idea Mother Russia was so beautiful as Is Finland, RIGHTEOUS episode, each video is indeed a adventure that I'm proud to be a part of. Safe travels friend. Blessings from Brooklyn 🙏 to my favorite traveling Chef
Thank you so much my friend, this was a strange feeling to get to this Frontier, and thinking that it is really the same on the other side, except for humans
@@NorwegianXplorer we get to witness this beautiful world 🌎 through your professional camera work , thank you for this #RESPECT
Thank you🙏
Pwoahhh Jarl, beautiful northern lights up there, absolutely amazing ❤. So glad we follow your channel, it's saturdaynight, we have some beer and simply relax and enjoy your awesome footage. Very curious about Lofoten in winter. In about a month we are there too❤ . Stay safe Jarl.
Yes I will return to Lofoten as I continue this trip, it was very warm when I got back there, so nearly spring time actually. Are you driving through Sweden to get up to Lofoten or are you taking the ferry to Norway?
@@NorwegianXplorer Like real campers as we are, we love traveling with the camper and we will drive all the way through Sweden and we are not gonna take the ferry. We will enter Lofoten via Kiruna, Abisko and Narvik and do some hiking up there. And of course experience Midsummer Night! We do avoid crowded tourist places, although this is not always possible. But we love travelling with our cozy camper ❤️ But first a few more weeks of work!
Sounds great!
Great vid Jarl. Some new sounding music. Interesting being at the border with Russia. Yes, they have a feeling all their own. Lofoten, incredible to see melting out. The Northern Lights, we had a visit from them last week. Intense solar storm. Next time be safe.
Hey Sam, hope you are well! Yes it was interesting indeed, way more remote than i would have thought. I saw that the northern lights where very strong last week, hope you got some photos, or maybe it is better to just enjoy them without stressing about taking photos.
I can see the trees blowing.
Beautiful fantastic scenery. When you approached the Russian border I felt a strange sensation that you were in peace but just down the road there is a country at war. I think myself I would not attempt to cross that border that was a very strange feeling I wonder if it felt that way to you.
Some sad news my7 side unfortunately contracted sepsis and that destroyed my kidneys so I have to dialise 3 times a week unfortunately that means that my desire to go see the northern lights for myself is virtually impossible/ Thank God I have someonee like urself to give me a guided tour on youtube. As ever thank you for sharing your travles with us.
I am so sorry to hear that Simon, wish you all the best on your healing and dialisis! Yes it felt very strange to approach that border. There is really no way you can cross unless you have a visa, but it is sad what mankind does to peace and friendship. I bet there is so much amazing nature and history to explore on the other side.
Ey up my friend.
As always, an utterly enjoyable watch of an epic van journey. Those skies, beautiful and mesmerising. I'm always a little jealous of your epic journeys, maybe one day I'll get the chance.
Have a great weekend brother 🤜🤛🙂👍
Thank you my friend!
Thanks!
Oh wow! Thank you so much, very much appreciated!!🙏
A very nice video, very pretty country.
Thanks Matt!
The Northern lights are the same as our Southern lights they are beautiful. We don't get any where near as cold as Finland here in Tasmania guess because we are just a little bit closer to the equator, but it can get to minus 3 c in winter
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Northern Lights - grrreat way to conclude this video.
Warm Regards from far away Reno, Nevada U.S.A.
Thanks Bill, been a lot of beautiful northern lights this winter
Hello Arctic Jarl 😊 There is a country in the world where storms rage, where my friend Jarl lives and always invites me on his journey... 🤗
Thanks my friend!
It's spring now and I'm making sorrel soup with pork ribs and greens from the garden. And from drinks, fruit drink, compote. In general, vitamins... 😊

Yes, they did not want to exchange my bottles even though they are the same, so I drove back to Norway to exchange them
saw there was an odd 4.4 earthquake north of Svalbard. the map dont even let me see it its so high up.. thought of you and places up there you travel to 🚐 we watched this video today. as always great scenery. be safe up there out there 🙏💒
Hey Joey, thanks! Svalbard is way further north, hope to go there some day!
That van is holding up pretty good in all kinds of conditions. If I ever buy a van I know what model to get. Lol
Thanks, it is very basic, but affordable

Looks pretty much the same as driving from British Columbia north to North West Territories starting in Hay River from Edmonton, Alberta.
I would think that could be quite similar yes
Hello. I hope you will be in Stekenjokk june 6 in sweden. When they open up that mountain pass for summer.... :)
Not gonna be able to make it, but I might drive through later in the summer
How beautiful our planet is... Especially where there are eternal ices that keep the secrets of millions of years... Where time has no power over nature and there is an opportunity to think about the eternal...
Indeed!
Beautiful video, but im disappointed that you didn't take us grocery shopping with you.
Yeah, i keep forgetting, I should have a less intrusive camera I could mount on my chest or something
Hi Jarl how is your camper van standing up to the extreme weather conditions thanks Lee ❤ 🇬🇧

Hello, thank you , i will travel in the van through the summer as well:-)
This spooks me out when i see you are on the wrong side of the road lol
Are you driving on the correct side of the road in your country?
I bet you have seen some great northern lights on your journey!
Indeed, too many to count
Друг, езжай на Алтай, там очень красиво
I am sure it is, but it is not possible
👍
Thanks Andrew!
Great video. Im in the US and we were able to see the northern lights last week. I got beautiful pictures of pink and orange arouras. I was a little disappointed because the pictures looked great but you couldn't see it with the naked eye. Only through pictures on your phone because the camera collects much more light. I was curious when you show them in your videos is that how you actually see them standing there?
Thanks, yes you can see them, but the colors are not as vivid as you see on camera, but some times it is Lightning up the whole sky in colors
💪
Thanks!
Sounds great!
Quick question for you? When does the far north start becoming impassable for cars? I was hoping to drive up to the North Cape and Kirkenes in September/early October.
Never, but you need winter tyres
Ok I put watching this off till evening..that was not easy to do..
Haha, hope you enjoyed it!

Will you continue to travel in your Van during warmer months
Yes I will, I will start at the beginning of June, but I also have 5 more episode from this winter Arctic tour
In several van life videos, when people travel the Arctic regions of the Nordic countries, I often hear things referred to as say Finnish Lappland. I’m under the impression that the Sami prefer to be referred to as Sami and not Lapp. Should we also use the Sami language words for the region as well instead of calling it Lappland?
Lapland or Lappland is the land, but Lapp is considered insulting to call the Sami people.
Hello Jarl :-) In Norway, do you have gas cylinders checked according to safety standards?
I am sure, tons of rules for these things here in Europe
Can you imagine, I bought a new gas cylinder three years ago, but at the gas station they say that the expiration date is about to expire and I need a new one register it for verification. There are only swindlers and bureaucrats all around, where can a peasant go?
We get a new one every time it is empty
This is how it used to be in the Soviet Union. A car came to the village and exchanged empty cylinders for full ones. They checked them themselves. Everything was for the convenience of citizens. And now the swindlers, bureaucrats, are bullying the people.
Previously, in our village, too, a car would come and exchange empty gas cylinders for full ones. They checked them themselves and filled them with gas. Everything was for the convenience of the people. Now the crooks are at the people's resources.
