  • After a brief hiatus, #BatyearReturns... but unfortunately during our absence a comic book legend passed. On today's episode we remember Neal Adams and his contribution to not only Batman- but the comic medium as a whole. But don't fret, we have a lot of fun in this one too.
    For Neal!

When I was a kid when I thought of Batman I always thought of Neil’s Batman. He really defined the modern Batman

When I was getting into comics, my first shop was Atlantis Fantasyworld in Santa Cruz and Neal Adams made their logo.

even though not everything holds up, oneil and adams saved Batman from the adam west
pam-pow era of batman, which makes them the most important batman-creators.

Well done guys. Adams was truly a Comic Legend. His 1970's grey & blue Batman design is still my favorite look for Batman.

    Welcome Back, Gentlemen!
My earliest Neal encounter was when I picked up "Nigh of the Reaper". The idea of this annual Halloween gathering, including DC staff, no less, was too cool for school to this kid. Neal's art was a radical shift from Swan, Infantino, Kane and the "house style" that DC had at the time. A guy who did it His Way.
And thank goodness he did! 🖖♾
ps: Well said, Mr. Capullo! Dese are some pretty good guyz!

Great episode. I really hope they reprint the Neal adman’s Batman Omnibus. I could never get my hands on 5-way revenge. I’ve always wanted to own that. I think it’s in some random joker compilation but I’m not sure which one. Thanks again guys for everything you do and I told you I was gonna keep it short and sweet. Lol no, I got cut off and didn’t want to bombard you guys with multiple calls. Was just gonna say: hope you guys continue doing this great channel for a long time. Best conversational comic book review channel out there.

Hey guys just saw your Watchmen videos! They are great! Hope you could do one more or a two parted revisiting some other things. Snyder’s Under The Hood (2009) (Hollis Mason’s Fake Documentary), Watchmen: The End Is Nigh (Video Game) (2009), Rorschach (Cómic sequel to HBO Series)(2020/21), The Watchmen Companion (2019), and Watchmen: The Motion Comic (2008). Saw two other extra interesting stuff, a cancelled Before Watchmen Epilogue (Comic) and a 2003 Test Footage from David Hayter’s Watchmen take (Video). I’d be really interesting to see your take on that content, and there is not much content on it, hope you got time and interest in it. Thanks for returning and hope ur better ! PD: Sorry for my English!

Welcome back ol' chums. Glad you're feeling better Dave. The start of the video was poignant, thanks for that. I remember seeing Batman: Odyssey at the stands of my comic shop, I wanted to buy it but after skimming through it, something about it felt...off. Enjoyable video. Take care, look forward to Lopez's tribute.

My favourite Neal Adams comic is Skate Man. It's an absolutely terrible comic (there was a time when it was considered the worst comic ever published, but I think Mark Millar's The Unfunnies has since taken that title), but Skate Man was the first non-Marvel or DC comic I ever read and it introduced me to the wonderful world of independent comics, so it will always have a special place in my heart.

What's great about this story, and many of the O'Neil/Adams runs, is for as lauded as they are (and rightly so) the "old fashioned" nature of them will never not make them joyfully goofy. Like, this has one of the greatest splash pages of Batman ever drawn & the awesomeness of it out of context is great, but it's cooler in context. Joker is genuinely menacing, you feel these guys fear. But... there's no getting around how goofy this story is. Nor how Joker is gay coded as fuck. Which is how I like to read this, Joker is an old gay man holding grudges against five of his exes & Batman in the current Twunk desperately trying to talk Joker down & failing miserably.
