I'm not an army. I think BTS is amazing though and anyone who says BTS hasn't paved the way for kpop in the mainstream market is delusional. I live in South Africa. The only reason I knew about kpop was because I worked in SK as an English teacher for a couple years. Even in 2017 people in my country had no idea what kpop was nor did they know where Korea was. But today people in South Africa know BTS, they know about South Korea, they even show a kdrama on our public broadcasting network. This all started with BTS popularity. No other group or artist has ever done this from Korea. If BTS created that much exposure for not just kpop but Korea in general in South Africa of all places, they definitely paved the God damn way.

That is a very generous interpretation.
      1. gen invented K-pop.
      2. gen. after full establishment of K-pop in SK crated paths to Japan, maybe Phillipines and part-time China (Chinas poiltics make that an unstable thing: sometimes wildly successfull for SM artists especially and that partially erased to be seen again a few years later - confusing). Boracity also said second gen. *destroyed* the way.
Psy? Had some success and was frozen out because he couldn't circumvent the foreign entertainment media that sabotaged him. So there may be a few rests of space in an otherwise dense forrect left - but nothing more.

this video reminded me of that whole thing a few years ago where all those agencies had a meeting to discuss about changing the law to allow kpop performers to be exempt from military service, and how although BigHit wasn't even at the meeting and how BTS have stated multiple times that they didn't want exemptions, BTS was used as the main reason as to why the law should be changed. And then all those agencies were pressed about how when the law did change, it would only really apply to BTS because they needed the Cultural Merit award and only BTS have achieved it. so in my opinion, they kinda shot themselves in the foot there. If they really wanted the law to change for their groups, they should mention their own groups impact and popularity, reasons why THEIR OWN group should be exempt, not reasons why BTS should. Songs that really show who they are listen to songs like their first Cypher, No More Dream, then on the 2nd album, N.O, or If We Ruled the World, then the 3rd where they put Just One Day, Jump, then Danger, and most important Hip Hop Phile. The people was only interested in the song but they never found the need to know about the artist, like who was PSY? Sure there were some stories but NEVER TO THE LEVEL AND DEPTH PEOPLE HAD FOR BTS.
So PSY, opened the door. Peeked in and slowly retreated, but here comes BTS, kicking that damn Door. The 7 Kings of Nobody, backed by loyal armies. 💜
And just a reminder.. Remember when BTS was ever first nominated for BBMA Top Social, how others kept hating, saying its just a paper award, that their idols do not need those.. All I can say, karma is a Btch huh, who's aiming for who now? 😏😏😏😏
There will never be the next BTS. If ANY artist allows themselves be called NEXT BTS, THEY ALREADY FAILED. WHY, THEY ALREADY LOST THEIR IDENTITY BEFORE THEY EVEN BEGUN.
    just saying 😏

Those who can never be truly happy for others or can never acknowledge others’ achievements, will get nowhere in life and it’s so damn true. Because if BTS managed to earn their place at the top of the industry even if they had nothing going for them at the start of their career, just proves that others’ fame or success is not what is stopping your’s…but instead one’s success comes down to how much work one chooses to put in. That being said, their fans have seen the sacrifices they have made and the amount of effort they have put in since day 1 ( while only focusing on themselves instead of always trying to downplay others ) BTS being successful is not what is stopping other artists from succeeding, but one thing that I can tell you is that all the negativity and anger that kpop fans are constantly throwing at BTS isn’t gonna get them or their favs anywhere either.

People saying Kpop was a thing in Asian Country before BTS, Okay listen up, I grew up in southern Part of Asia,(Nepal, India, bangladesh. etc) In our part we had bollywood from India very popular and also our own music industry in our own language. KPOP was seen as a very weird thing, like only very few teen girls knew kpop, like maybe 1 in thousands, It was not at a topic. The first korean thing that came in was the drama Boys before Flower, I remeber buying CD to watch it as a young female.
But there was no k music or kpop whatsoever, As far as I remember, Kpop started being a topic in my country after BTS, the first song I heard was dope, I started casually listening to their music without knowing them or their names. Around 2016 I moved to Australia and after 2017, I saw my friends and my own family(siblings) get into BTS. Like they started telling me about this group and how popular this thing have become back home in one year.
I seriously satrated listening to BTS after that point, reading lyrics as it was very imporatnt for me. I had never stanned any artists prior to that but I got into the rabbit hole of BTS and got to know about kpop.
It was around 2016/2017 when kpop started to become a topic in my part of world as well, So people saying Kpop was huge in Asia before BTS may not realize that ASIA is a big Continents and has more countries than Japan, Korea, thailand,Vietnam and The Philippines,
BTS also introduced KPOP to the other part of ASIA, countries like INDIA, Nepal, Saudi Arabia and many more.
I am tired of people thinking Kpop was big in Asia before BTS and excluding a whole part of Asia.

The kids in Korea were listening to BTS, but understand, BTS lyrics made them hugely controversial in Koea due to sociatal norms. Parents , schools, and some churches did not their kids listening to them. So BTS was more underground than you think in S. Korea. On top of that, the Make-up... OMG you would have thought them serial killers for the bite back they got for that. Together, BTS took a stand wore more make up and wrote lyrics about Liking girls. LOL plus RM and Suga's mixtapes went after those haters Hard. I wish I would have been there.
But through their genius move of using social media, and chooseing to be themselves and give back to ARMY their music was being heard more and more, then weverse, run BTS, their shows, let people see what great guys they were and for me, in reading and researching their history, the BIG turning point was Burn the stage.
Here are these talented guys, writing lyrics about hope and love and the endless possibilities that can bring to each of us, getting hate ? Then People who are tolorant, loving and believe in a global world started to notice their light, and WOW, here we are. All we needed was someone with a platform to stand up and say;" We See You, we believe this can be, and let's do it together." I think a lot of pushback on the phrase is because toxic fans have weaponized this phrase as a way to discredit other artists. Especially those from earlier generations such as Big Bang. I think it's silly to compare because Big Bang have their flowers in a whole other way and they did not have social media to build their platform. It's like apples and oranges. Lol
I'm a 1st/2nd generation fan, I've been into K-pop since it's niche times and to see it grow globally has been very interesting and super cool. I'm not a huge fan of BTS but they definitely deserve their flowers. They took the rise of social media and made it their advantage and created something great. Their presence has broken down a barrier for Asian music in general and that's so cool because representation matters.
I think going forward and this is just my perspective, I kind of hope the fan culture of comparing groups successes in order to validate their favorite group dies out because these artists work their butts off to create their art. Just cheer on your favorites without being egotistical about it. Lol
In the end it's just music and it's supposed to bring us all together and cross all boundaries.
I hope we get to continue to hear more music in other languages on mainstream radio in the future.

Tbh if kpop groups , companies ( or Atleast mainly companies ) and fandoms would focus more on themselves then they would probably be huge or be close to being huge as them. Everyone too busy trying either copy them , they’re success, or wants to take them down but forgot they’re the guys help made kpop more known on the global mainstream level.
BTS broke the door down and made all other groups and new groups walk in.

I’m very happy that black music can influence and spread across the world. I also see that some (not all) kpop idols even know and acknowledge older black artists like Michael Jackson, Tupac and Biggie who are respected in the black music industry. I really love it a lot.
I hope that more kpop idols get to know the history of hip hop and learn the beginning of their craft. I believe they should at least know the basics of the history of it like BTS did. It could possibly do wonders
I also love kpop idols that don’t try to be like exactly like BTS. Like TxT and Stray kids. If they want to be as popular as BTS, it’s okay. But they can’t BE BTS and it’s nice they acknowledge that and respect them. ❤
I also see what you mean by the labels too. Labels are a big factor in almost EVERYTHING their artists do sometimes.

literally a perfect video. bts made it is easier (following pave the way definition) for other groups to enter the global market. not saying bts invented kpop or made the whole system or are better than everyone else. they just made it easier for other groups to enter the global market and are successful because they broke through the global market through their own ways while it was hard for them in the past to stand out even in their own country where the big 3 at the time was sm jyp yg and not hybe yet. other groups worked hard ofc to get to where they are but BTS laid that path for others to expand outside of Korea. ofc BTS got inspired by older and other artists, Western Industry and ofc Black music just as much as other Kpop groups did, but BTS took what they had and made a road for global expansion for Kpop as a whole. some people might have not known about BTS when they first learned about kpop and that's fine, but with the receipts, no one can actually argue against how BTS did pave the road for this global expansion of Kpop and more visibility for other groups to try to achieve their own success in the global field ofc not to be the next BTS as every group is their own people. They just can follow through with that opened door/road BTS made. I am saying this as a Kpop multifan since 2016 who has read and watched about the history of Kpop. But I am a bit confused why she had to include what Jennie said. Maybe she meant that Jennie was also inspired by "hip hop", Black music, Rihanna specifically just as much as BTS was but BTS took what they were inspired as and grew after a couple years in 2013 (esp 2017) in order to be the first to pave an easier path for other groups/solos to have visibility in the global market. I don't think she mean it to be biased even tho she is clearly an army (i am just taking into account bp debuted in 2016)? Maybe she meant it in a neutral way, not hating on blackpink? I hope and think she wasn't hating. and I mean I did know about wonder girls song "nobody", super junior's "sorry sorry", and psy's "gangnam style", but I did not know that was kpop at the time. and also that clip with blackpink in an interview is kinda taken out of context. and we know how the label can't just flat out let their artist say BTS paved the way. It's nice when artists do but let's not force others. So true those artists with more freedom ofc can freely praise BTS saying BTS paved the way, but most artists are not given that much freedom. It's just music at the end of the day. music is subjective. why make things so black and white. BTS did pave the way for an easier path to expand but let's not shove this idea down people's throat. End of my Ted Talk lol.

Food for thought. BTS is to KPOP as the Jackson 5 is to Motown's "The Factory". Berry Gordy developed a system that groomed talent with dancing, singing, writing, and producers. Every genre of music has sprinkles of the music made before them. We should just appreciate the great music being produced. KPop. KJazz. KSoul.

BTS paved the way. Of course there are more talented vocals, dancers or rappers in other groups, but for BTS, it’s not just about being talented. It’s about how they rose up beyond the Kpop industry’s expectation. They have remained humble and always pay homage where due. They made it easy for others to get into the global market. It’s unfortunate that they are the biggest group and they get the biggest hate. I hope they can take time for themselves now and live for themselves. They have paid their dues. It’s time for them to do what they want and live their lives. I wish them all the best. 💜

@@user-vv7hc7kb5o kinda but for example the best vocalist is bts is not the best vocalist in kpop, the best dancer in bts is debatably the best dancer in kpop and as for rap line I would say bts have the best but there’s still other groups competing. They are great at what they do but op is right in there is more talented in other groups but that still doesn’t change bts impact

      @@_LoveMeKnot according to who?
Millions of people would disagree with you. There’s no way anyone is out singing jungkook. In my opinion and many other’s opinions, bts has the most interesting and unique sounding vocals that covers both the highs and lows, while there are other kpop groups that have similar sounding vocalists that get boring after multiple listens.

    • @_LoveMeKnot
      @_LoveMeKnot Před rokem +2

@@sarahe6659 you’re using personal bias. For example for me Jimin and Rosé have 2 of my favourite voices in kpop due to their uniqueness, now that is in no way me saying they have the best vocals in kpop because then you’re looking at people like Ailee, Chen, Taeil, Sohyang these are exceptional vocalists in kpop that those 2 just aren’t reaching skill wise. Jung kook has phenomenal vocals and you may love to listen to him but that isn’t the same as having the best voice in kpop or being the most skilled singer. See what I’m saying? Op is just showing recognition to other groups because they know as well as I do that there’s phenomenal singers, rappers, dancers all over these kpop groups old and new coming up like soo soo much talent that possibly rival and surpass bts. Now that doesn’t change your opinion because like I said there’s a difference between “favourite” and “Best” one is a preference which can be argued all day long and the other is about skill which for the most part cannot be argued because it’s clear to see.
Just fyi this isn’t me discrediting bts in the slightest, they still remain to be one of the most well rounded kpop groups and especially in the rap department that’s one of the areas other groups aren’t touching, you’d really have to dig in to k-hiphop to find someone that can rival bts rapline so this isn’t me saying bts aren’t good but looking at the amount of raw talent in kpop as a whole
