I haven't seen Smith & Jones for over 25yrs, still funny, coppers giving interview and the News at 9 😆😆😆
Some of these skits must have taken ages to get thru without bursting into laughter. How can the crew get thru each show without splitting their sides. These two twits are absolutely fantastic. 😂😂😂😂😂
These two were sheer genius.
Thanks for putting this together RIP Mel Smith, one of the greats
Sublimely good at what he did. I'm a Finnish man (okay, I lived in the Uk as a youngster ..but still) and If I had to name the best comedians I can think of Mel Smith would be there in the top 3.
@@metsot He'd certainly be third in my list of three comedians too
These guys can be falling down hilarious without saying a word....their looks at one another, just fabulous at times.
Howard Kerr 7
Saw them first time on Yle, Finnish TV, in the fall of 1984 when at a boarding school. My roommate a I had rented a VCR from Thorn and taped all episodes. I still laugh at their jokes, after 35+ years! Especially the scene where Griff makes his entrance suited up for some bondage makes me howl with laughter.
“We’re all going to die”
For years, I’ve been singing this at times of stress and I’d forgotten it was from S&J
Thanks for the reminder
Comedy genius...smolensk splash was based on that sketch 😂 I mean poolaks took inspiration from it
It's not the jokes, it's the delivery - noone did it better!
Exactly! Spot on
Their shows ran here in the states back in the 80s I think and I LOVED them!
RIP Mel - A great comedian You gave us loads of laughs
Man,I was so sad to hear that Mel passed away.Smith and Jones, are without doubt, hilarious comedy I never get tired of.And now,one of the really great ones are not with us anymore.
RIP Mel Smith, never will you be forgotten.
Pollock champion! HAHA I've been looking for that clip for years. 9.01
Used to watch this regularly in the 80s. Smith & Jones were really funny and made a great comedy pair.
7:50 Griff has the best blank stare of "the fuck?" I have ever seen.
I love these guys!!! So glad to find them on youtube!!!!
man these guys were precious! lol
RIP Mel and thank you for keeping us entertained with your comic genious.
great stuff
Thank you for putting so many good sketches (some of my favourites, too) together!
That radio salesmen sketch is genius. “AM is for listening to the radio in the morning...”.
Never knew Mic Vol was the brains behind that particular product!
Mel, what an actor!
In the tattoo sketch, as soon as he said "pollocks", i knew what was coming !
Wonderful stuff
I loved Smith and Jones growing up. I just missed them on Not the Nine O'Clock News era, was not born then, but my era was their own BBC series through the late 80s and 90s.
Classic comedy, we've lost one of the very best. He will be missed very much. Such a sad loss to so many.
Loved the police sketch...how true🤣🤣🤣
Swing low sweet chariot ... saw that probably 25 years ago and I've never forgotten the look on GR-J's face. Hilarious stuff.
..home news..
They were brilliant, grew up on this era of comedy....Mel was good in a film I remember from the early 80's called Babylon...good film if you're from that time and that place.
thanks for making this compilation :)
Loved the police press conference sketch.still true these days
Humor at it's best.😁😁
Cant believe I forgot about mels passing.....but these guys were pure gold!
...from the times when we were allowed to laugh.
We still are its just theres nothing to laugh at, other than politicians of course.
"So... It's a bomb is it?" Such timing, and with that idiotic face he did soooooo well. Hilarious! :) :)
Rip Mel Smith Many laughs thank you
Legends!
RIP Mel!
Such a sad loss.
19:43 Aside from the *_awesome_* praying mantis helmets they’re wearing, this part of the skit absolutely *_floored_* me 😂🤣
Smith and Jones, the funniest double act since laurel and hardy.
You nailed it there!
i'd put Morecambe and Wise and the two Ronnnies and Fry and Laurie ahead of them but they were still pretty good
@@malcolmdale those three are not as funny!
Alas Mel Smith. RIP fella.
"c'mon, I'm good, but I'm not that good". Hell, I'm pissing my pants out... Kkkkkkkk
Mel came up with many of the concepts on NTNON, especially the formal television setting of the show. i was glad he brought that to AS&J as well
it's always the way that when someone with a body of work that has gone unnoticed for a while dies, their work gets re-assessed and then all the plaudits rightfully come out - I am guilty of this. It is a shame the praise didn't happened when he was alive.
The praise came with the success of the shows and the money he made.
Shame about Mel. Love them geniuses
Just great
Alas no more of this great talent and imagination Mel smith who I seem over a dozen times in shows live recordings and stage shows hairspray and live at caesars palace Luton Will be sadly missed a bright star will shine tonight in the nights sky
Who remembers the world according to Smith and Jones?
26:12 one of the best written and funniest sketches I have ever seen.
I love the bondage sketch
"It is a shame the praise didn't happened when he was alive."
I do think it did.
Watching the opening bit in 2023 and it actually held up! Griff just all matter-of-fact like, who cares lol
I don't know how they managed to keep straight faces on these sketches...
Don't forget to watch Part 2 here: czcams.com/video/7UcpaSxcewA/video.html 😂
Looking like an extra in a Mad Max film.
Mel's reaction really sells it 0:35
Hot damn, I know about NTNOCN, but I never knew Mel and Griff had their own show!
In the tattoo sketch, I knew what was coming as soon as he said "Pollocks"....same as when the guy in the tattoo parlour says "I've always wanted a giant Venus on my back, she's the goddess of love." The tattooist freezes and says "VENUS.."
.......and I expected him to lift the table when he got up!
The police sketch is close to reality.
haloa. smith had near perfect comedic timing.jones confirmed his comedic appearance.peace out
Thank heavens youtube havnt banned this.
Why you cut the end titles?! Much as I love Mel and Gryff, the theme tune was the main reason I was here!!
The theme titles changed often during their 10 series, with 14 years on air.
3:45 It's like watching a dubbed foreign TV comedy show.
JESUS! I always thought that this show was called "ALIAS Smith and Jones".
Alias Smith and Jones was a completly different show, it was a western drama I believe.
David, he didn't ask for your explanation.
alias Smith and Jones.. loved it..
15:55 WOAH.
Even though I haven't seen him around on TV and the like Mel Smiths death has upset me quote a bit. As a kid he has mw in belly laughs. RIP dude.
21:12, very nice
The hedgehog🤣🤣🤣
That’s the BBC for you
I have some of these on VHS tape
I can’t get over how much Jones sounds like Rik Mayall :0
9:44 Jones looking a little like Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark (Iron Man).
"Because he's a mason-"
Any pisstake on the Freemasons, I'll happily laugh at.
Hilarious. The police sketch is shockingly close to the truth.....
Anyone know where I can find 'drug assisted Olympics' sketch?
08:20 No offense to other performers but Mel just made the best version of that song ever
I'm trying to find the Nicole and Papa sketch. Anyone know where I can find it?
..what were the others again?
30:19 Griff accidentally moves the instrument when he's supposed to be "absolutely still" in the bomb disposal sketch but I suppose it doesn't matter.
29:42 LOL
Wonderful. I'm sure we've all heard the song of a wayward tit! Brilliant!
9:39 gold
did they ever break character ? any blooper reels ?
Rudi Carrell adapted the News@⁹ 4 german TV, RIP
29:42
03:48 Reporter: "Is it true that most policemen are of abnormally low intelligence?"
Pig: "I'm sorry I don't understand the question." 😂
Pollocks!?
15:10 Thats the singer from green day and the walking contradiction video
😂😂😂😂 14:05 👌
One with the black hair looks like the singer from GREEN DAY
9:39 - the pellet with the poison is in the vessel with the pestle, the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true
THE VESSEL WITH THE PESTLE IS THE VESSEL WITH THE POISON; THE CHALICE FROM THE PALACE HAS THE BREW THAT IS TRUE.
I have been trying to find a sketch where Jones is some sort of soap salesman and he turns into a werewolf while driving a car. I found it to be so damn funny for some reason. I wonder if this is my imagination or was it really a smith and jones sketch?
I'm 3 minutes in so forgive me if it is here. Boston Masshole here! Started watching this show on A & E in mid 80s and saw an episode where they were in the jungle filming animals and they saw a magnificent endangered creature and Colonel so and so had just shot it! I was like 15 and that was my introduction to British comedy which I have loved ever since. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
For the record, I vividly remember the song of a tit at 9:40, that might be the episode!
s Humphrey I know I had that Oscar Wilde skit on vhs, I have watched it a half dozen times in 24 hours and am laughing like a seal! These guys were fantastic! Great shit
I know just the one you're talking about and I'll have a rifle through my Smith and Jones episodes; if that sketch comes up I'll let you know which one.
I know just the one you're talking about and I'll have a rifle through my Smith and Jones episodes; if that sketch comes up I'll let you know which one.
Song of a tit, that remains after all Beethoven
Who would want to be a male praying mantis ha ha ha

Did Smith and Jones do an Inspector Morse spoof?
I remember it was very funny..
Yes they as well as an advert for the telly. Mel called himself Inspector Morose!
@@roddyteague6246 Yes thanks. It's funny how you remember these things but I'd like to find that.
I remember his 'knackered old Jag' left a patch of oil behind every time it was parked...
There is a Hale & pace spoof on here as well.
Inimitable
The Two Stooges 😇
23:51 Why did the audience laugh when GRJ reminded MS that the person asking the question's name was Dave?
