It was one of the softest citations ever submitted and Obama was using it as political favor for future elections plus there was push to award a living marine as I don’t believe there had been a living marine receive that award yet at that stage in the war. Marcus luttrell had survived very similar circumstances yet was never considered. His teammate rightfully so won the moh by sacrificing his life to get qrf dispatched. Dakota simply just survived. So what he beat a malnourished afghan man in flip flops to death with a. Rock. That’s a bar story to most others Marines. Kyle carpenter is a true marine and moh recipient. Don’t see him out there causing controversy or using his status for selling bs. He a humble and honorable person who imo is much more worthy of such high honors

The facts are is that the Revolutionary War was not won by untrained “farmers, preachers, blacksmiths”. It was won by the professional Continental Army because the wouldn’t (and couldn’t) just pack up and leave when the were tired of fighting.

My dad's best friend was at Normandy June 6, 1944! I've known this man my whole life. He's still alive. His generation is definitely "the greatest generation"! His country called him, and went and served. That was the end of it. He came home after the war and got on w his life. He never talked about the war.

I’m glad I’m old enough to know some of these patriots before they passed on. I had a great uncle I wish I could have got to know better.
Put on the uniform, went to war, and yes I feel proud that I served, but I totally get why civilians balk at serving now days. Training to preserve family and loved ones in todays world is not selfish, its smart. Why in the he'll would a 18-25 year old want to serve after seeing the cluster of fuck ups the Government has put us through?

I would rather dudes focus on marrying one girl, raising a family with values, holding a job that creates value, being financially responsible, owning his OWN ‘minute man’ gear (can match the average infantryman, which today would include helmet, PC, NV, IR laser, ear pro, comms, rifle, maybe sidearm, IFAK, and ammo, all stored securely), knowing how to use all it AND stop bleeds, being functionally fit, knowing how to hunt and stay alive in the wilderness, having a relationship with his neighbors, being involved in a local church or small group, knowing how to repair his vehicle and his home, and having the courage to do what’s right than to serve in the military or law enforcement. I know plenty of dudes who “wear the uniform” who are divorced multiple times, deadbeat dads, out of shape, don’t stand up for anything, and don’t know how to use their equipment. Not to mention, plenty of servicemen go fight wars with equipment they don’t own, and then never get their own. When they get out, they aren’t useful in the sense the 2nd Amendment and the founding fathers intended. Also also, increasingly I’m seeing that the U.S. views wars as necessary to the economy, and not all of them are justifiable, IMO. I would rather a Dad be ready to defend his family from criminals and tyrants than to lose his innocence and come back totally shattered from fighting a war that lines rich people’s pockets. It is actually far more difficult for someone to do everything I described than for someone to enlist, get training, and go fight. I would also argue that the person I described is doing more to serve others than someone who enlists, in many cases, because they’re not getting paid to do it and they’re actually paying a shitload to do it. And yes, I am in the service.

Respectfully, I disagree with your take. If people are out training to protect themselves and their families that alone is a asset. If I can protect my immediate family from an active shooter doesn’t that reduce the potential casualty load of the in coming first responders? Not becoming part of the problem is helpful. Also, I think most people start off with their sole intention being to protect their family then once they get confident in their skills might branch out to protecting others. I do agree with the fact that sometimes the strongest critics of the police come from the cheapest seats however not everyone can be a police officer, soldier, firefighter etc… There are plenty of other social needs in our country. At the end of the day internal conflict in the 2A community is the last thing we need. I disagree with somethings out there however we have enough external threats to worry about. People like grandthumb have undoubtably put a ton of people down a self sufficient path. Yes they might not be to “soldier level” but probably better than what they were yesterday. And his educational content is gold IMO and more beneficial than having a show that throws shade and doesn’t offer any real benefit to the 2A community.

I wasn't smart enough to become a marine. I took that test 6 times and failed the paper part of it all 6. At the time reaganomics had a lot to do with it. I said screw it and just became a gun bunny.
I couldn't serve in the military! I tried to enlist I failed because I was born with a heart problem, so they wouldn't take me. Does that mean I can't become better and more efficient at using a firearm? I thought I lived in America. I carry so if anything, ever popped off when I was somewhere. I would do everything in my power to stop some piece of garbage that was trying to take lives! You should want people that carry firearms to train and not be as big of a reliability issue. Being a Medal of Honor recipient, you could probably have a huge following and be in a better position to help people train or give advice. Instead, you choose to alienate the very people that would most likely like to hear your advice. But instead, you choose to be a joke.

As a former military man myself, Dakota should realize not everyone that was in the military did it right. Some should not have been in the military. That being said, just because you were in the military doesn't make you better or more prepared than anyone else. Maybe a little introspection is in order. Or at least some humility...

There's vets out there do heinous shit in and out of war, do you defend them too? If a vet harmed your children, would you give them a pass because they served a short 4 years and have a silly award?

I been in the Army for 20 years now, and it drives me crazy when veterans use their status to gain attention, being a veteran doesn’t make you better than those who did not serve.

Right out of highschool (when I was considering)I worked in the veteran service center/department in the airport for 2 years . I had an average of 10 passengers from that center a day andtalked to 100s if not a thousand combat veterans .Maybe 1or 2 said they recommend it. The older they were..the more passion they had against it. Even some of my recently deployed friends (over the last 2 years) said they regret that shit. I don’t think the fact you disagree and got praised by Obama is an coincidence.

@@Tanner.T car insurance is required by law and car accidents statistically happen a lot more than a foreign army or the government trying to take over. I am fairly confident that most civilian uses (home intrusion, self defense, etc.) of a firearm almost never involve a plate carrier or rifle. I only said overboard….I never inferred not preparing.
