- Walk through a social sciences passage from College Board’s Practice Test 1 with me! You can find the full test here: collegereadiness.collegeboard....
This video will help if you’re seeing this passage for the first time, if you’ve already taken this test and want to review your answers, or if you’d just like to see how I approach this section. I tried to be as in-depth as possible with my explanations and share all the advice I have along with the methods I use to answer every question to help you get to a perfect 1600, too!
The social sciences passages are on the easier side of SAT passages in my opinion, so for this video I decided to mix it up a bit and go in the real order that I would go in if I was taking the test. Hopefully this helps you come up with a way to go about the SAT reading section that works best for you. :)
If you're looking for a paid prep course, Prepscholar is the one I used and my go-to recommendation! Sign up with this link and I'll get a commission as well :D

hey Ana! These are super helpful, please think about doing grammar section next:)
I will as soon as the full reading section is done! :)
This is really really helpful. I just want to know how to manage my time while doing all these process
It helps to take a lot of practice tests and figure out which parts take you the most time and work on improving whatever those are, whether it’s reading comprehension, understanding the questions, etc :))
@@annas-universe Thank you!
please do a full walkthrough for math section!
Will do! :D
can you please do a science and history passage walkthrough? thank you for all the amazing videos btw!
For sure! Thanks for watching :)
Please do other passages. I have done this practice test and scored really very low. I would really appreciate if you do all of the passages.🙏
I'm working on the science passage right now :D
Could you please make a video on time management on the reading section ( particularly)
Thanks
Could you do a walkthrough of the debate passages? Thank you :D
For sure! :)
Excellent video!😊 and do you have any channel, website to indicate to whom is training essay now? I am not a native speaker of the language.
Hi Anna! Thank you so much for your super helpful video. I was wondering what you did in between your SAT tests to study if you ran out of problems on khan academy and did most of the practice tests already?
I never got to the point of running out of resources, because I used Prepscholar during the bulk of my practicing, and then a year later when I went back College Board had added more tests lol. There's always the QAS tests on the subreddit if you haven't done those yet (there's 10 or so that you can get on r/sat): www.reddit.com/r/Sat/comments/cufsxg/all_qas_tests_and_scoring/
If you've already done those, it might be good to take some time to review your mistakes, and maybe retake old tests if it's been a while, but honestly you shouldn't have to put in that many hours to see improvement! :D The main tests on College Board's website was pretty much enough for me to study with
Can u do a walkthrough vid for 13 minutes, as if your taking the real test. I wan to know how to answer questions faster and what not
Sure! Great idea :)
Halloo,
Can you please make the next video about how to solve natural science one
Could you please do walkthrough of other passages ? And writing part also
For sure! :)
Can you please upload a video where you tackle one passage in real time ?
I have my exams on March 13.
Can you make a video about how to record and analyze questions we got wrong on the those practices?
yes 👍 please
Oooh yes! Great idea :)
I feel I remember this from the PSAT/NMSQT this year, but I might be wrong. I just feel like I’ve seen this passage before
Its test 1 in the college board book
Everyone has done it
can you do a writing and lit walkthrough?
thanks
For sure :)
Thank you so much.. i really appreciate all of your efforts❤❤❤.. i just want to ask about something.. did you really benefit from the sat online prep..
Because i was thinking to join brooke supertutortv course.. but when i watched your video i thought about it again.. so which one do you recommend? Because i am confused between both of them..
I feel like I benefitted from it, but it definitely wasn't as important as doing the practice and the heavy lifting myself. You can join whatever course you feel excited about that gets you the most motivated, but know that you can probably motivate yourself just as well even if you don't have access to tutoring courses!
@@annas-universe oh.. thank you so much for you advice.. you are right.. i agree with you.. thanks a lot for every thing❤❤
omg I swear this same passage was on this year's June sat😭
exactly
Hey Anna Thankyou for the very helpful video, also question, did you get 1600 on your first try or your second and if it was your second what was your first score?
I got a 1530 on my first try, a 1500 on my second, and then a 1600 :)) Feel free to check out my "SAT Journey" video if you want to learn more about my whole studying process :D
I have one question: I know that its important to read the literature and the paired passages but is it important to spend time in reading the science passage or can i just read 10-12 lines of the intro and 10-12 lines of the conclusion and get a main idea and then attempt the questions. Same question for the social science passage.
What is a daily double?
How long does it usually take you to circle and star the lines included in the questions? I would do that strategy but for some reason I feel like it would waste time.
It usually doesn't take me longer than 30-60 seconds if I'm going at full speed--I've found that circling is a little faster than underlining, so that helps a bit. You could try it out for a practice test or two and see if it works for you or if it's more hassle than it's worth :D
Ohhhh who else got a SAT exam on may 8th
Hey can please tell me what all books did u use to study for the sat
I didn't really use any books to study, but check out my first SAT video on this channel if you wanna see exactly how I prepped :)
Please tell me what to do if I’m a passive reader no matter what I do?
I would recommend annotating the passage a little bit/summarizing each paragraph if you can't absorb the info, and previewing all the questions so you know what you're looking out for. Also maybe try just reading the first and then the last sentence of each paragraph if nothing else works and you find yourself wasting too much time (I've heard that works for people!)
Hey I have a question how to improve your vocabulary on reading it is so hard for me to choose the right answer in the vocab part in reading?
It helped me to read more books/essays (specifically older ones) outside of the SAT in order to better understand how words were used in context. And doing a quick plug-in of each word into the sentence just in your head can help while you're actually taking the test--hope this helps!
how do you have enough time on the test for this? please help
On the sat did you read all passages or you skim through some?
I read all the passages for the most part, since usually I would miss some key information needed for the summary type questions if I tried to skim. I'd say it's easiest to get away with skimming the social sciences ones, though :))
What colleges are you looking at, I know you got a perfect score on the SAT so I was just wondering where that could take you
I'll definitely make a college decision reaction video in April once the whole process is over with (and maybe a whole series on college advice!), but until them I'm hoping to keep it on the down low :))
I feel like this strategy would take me too long, can you break down about how long it should take for each part of it, and also how long I should be spending on each passage
hi! i think it’s the best if you read the passage under 5 minutes, and answer questions for 5 minutes.
so, 9-11 minutes for each passage. generally, for me i do first 3 passages under 30 minutes, and history passage for 13 minutes(because it’s the hardest one for me) . and i am left with 2-3 minutes for bubbling.
@@rayofsunahine for me it seems whatever strategy I do I always take too much time on each passage normally 11-15 per passage. I don’t know how to cut my time down, and when I’m reading I’m focused but I’m not comprehending
Maybe taking small notes/annotating after each paragraph could help? Or at least stopping after each one and coming up with your own summary in your head. I think practicing timed tests as much as possible is the best way to get your time down, since that will help you get familiar with the question formats! Good luck :)
For me, I skim the qs first, then underline the the parts where specific line(s) are mentioned. I then read the passage and answer the questions as I reach them. Finally, I answer the inference and main purpose stuff. For me, this saved a lot of time compared to reading the passage first then answering the questions.
What prep materials did you use?
Mostly Khan Academy and Prepscholar, but the main thing that helped was using College Board's free practice tests :)
How mutch time did it take you for circle the things in 3:40
It took me much longer than it should have since I was trying to make sure everything was in frame, but typically that part shouldn't take longer than 30 seconds or a minute :D
Hey Anna could we get a math without calculator walkthrough? :)
For sure!
I do all of that but how do you have enough time. This works perfectly for literature and social sciences where i fit just under 13 minutes but history and science takes me much more time
The time limit is one of the toughest parts! I think improving your reading speed/comprehension by not only practicing using official SAT tests but also reading content outside of it can help
Does this mean we can write on the SAT paper?
*sorry it's gonna be my first time taking the SAT 3 days from now
yup
I take my SAT on march 13 and I barely know what I'm doing. 😩😩I need help.
You got this :) Try taking a practice test or two before then to learn the format a bit better, but most importantly, get a good night's sleep and relax before hand!!
@@annas-universe thank you so much I'll let u know how I did after a week or so:))
Hey, can I have a lesson with you?
@@annas-universe hey, I wrote to you a few days ago, could you answer?
could you do a passage in real time, bc i feel i would spend way too much time doing this in the real test
Sure--I can try to do a speedrun sometime
Bruh = Bruh confirmed
I think what is hard is that, in test, you can not underline or write on the paper. It is on the screen, you can only read silent and just do the answers.....
Oh? Is that a new COVID precaution--because at least when I took it back in September it was on paper. You should be allowed to underline/write on the packet (if it is paper and not on a screen)
You are so helpful, smart and adorable. Keep it up. The first Article is from Khan Academy. I wonder Where do you live?
I live in Michigan :)
