    Good morning Bo. Man is it great to see you talking about the albums that meant the most to you and the ones that you set free. Anyone who has known you and your collection for as long as I have can completely understand why you kept some of the albums that you did. I do remember you mentioning what Kinks and Yardbirds albums you liked as well as the Velvet U stuff. I have wanted to do some purging for a long time now. Time restraints have made it tough to do. But I will get there one of these days. For some reason the sentimentality of the wee early VC days come to mind when I see you talking about records. But it is always the best seeing you post. BTW. Is that Brett Hull rookie card a Topps or O-Pee-Chee? Looking forward to seeing more of these Bo. Have a nice week~
    Rob/Boston

      Hi Rob. It’s a Topps Hull. Most of my collection is Topps. Gretzky RC is Topps too. I was hoping your Bruins would face the NYR in the east final. But it is what it is. I’m going to do a part 2 and 3. Hopefully they won’t be this long.

    wow, it's great to see you again. I enjoyed the video. Good point about how you can listen to any of these records online for free before buying. I have been collecting records from a different Jack book, Psychedelia - 101 Iconic Underground Rock Albums. Now I want to get Endless Trip. "Play it and you'll know what he says...." lol It's amazing how often issues like that pop up in VC videos. For instance: "I love that David Bowie song? TVC Fifteen?" lol I'm with you on PF Sorrow and VU - I like the post-Cale records better. Well, the first one too. Small Faces forever!!! Thanks for showing the records!

    Yes, please continue. A lot of us collectors can learn a lot from this. I actually start to see my record collecting as a bit of a disease, so this works as a good wake-up call. I see a disc I "should" like and I buy it, not really paying more attention to the disc than that, it'll end up on my shelf and never be played.

    • @earheadsix4119
      @earheadsix4119  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That was the exact problem I had. It became more about acquisition and hoarding then buying music I enjoyed. Great point.

    Good to see you Bo. I agree with what you said about the books. I found myself buying whatever was in the books, only to realize that most of those albums sucked lol
    As they say and it’s always true “collect what you like, not what others like”
    Cool to see what’s in the shelves, keep them coming!

    Hope you continue to show your records. And don't be shy about sharing more information if you know off the top of your head. I collect records, but I, by no means, have a photo memory. I forget things all the time. What I'm trying to say is...forget about the ones who know it all about everything and remember those who enjoy your showings and listening to why you like or dislike something. Bo, I'm always glad to see your channel pop up in my watch list. Keep on, keeping on...and at your leisure. ~ Your Wichita friend, Casey

    Hello Bo: Good to see you back & hoping all has been well. Baseball season is in progress. Our Hockey card collection goes to the mid sixties. Some very nice vinyl showings. Liked the various LP's shown & your explanation for each. Always tuff when you purge certain records & then have second thoughts. Like the Baseball cards on the shelf. Till next time, take care. Tina & Pat!~

    Love this video. What a cool concept. The core and the reasons why. And not just like, "well, I think this is my core but maybe this one too and this one and this one." No, this is THE ACTUAL core because you got rid of anything that wasn't part of the core, it's gone! With the exception of the ones that you held on to because it wasn't really worth it to you to move them on because they didn't have a lot of resale value, but you point out which ones those are. And good on you for owning your record collection and not letting it own you! I think that's really cool when people have so much time and money in a thing, but they can still go, "I'm not hating on that time period at all, it was great, I had a lot of fun/got a lot out of it, etc., but I'm just not in that I HAVE TO GET EVERYTHING (in my niche) mode anymore, so I'm going to move some of it along and start spending more time pursuing this other more recent interest I have (in your case the hockey cards." I know Harvey Pekar (yes the writer for the self-published American Splender independent comic book) did something similar, he talks about it in that documentary Vinyl. He was a big time collector in the 1960s and 1970s, that's how he was in with Robert Crumb, and if you know about Robert Crumb and his records, he was on that kind of level with it, those really rare super old blues records, that whole world of collectors at the time. He talks about basically selling/passing on most of his collection at a certain point, and his attitude about it kind of reminds me of yours in this video. He was basically like, "yeah it was great no regrets but I've moved on to this other thing now" (I think in his case it was collecting books)." I thought it was pretty cool. There's a lot of people that just would not be able to free themself of it, even though their heart might not really be in it anymore. Whatever you're into, there is other cool stuff out there besides that one thing!

      Loved your examples and sourcing. You nailed the concept. I really should purge more. I found myself in Aberdeen and Hoquiam over the weekend. I found myself reconsidering albums I’d long purged like the Blues Magoos and later Butterfield. It really can be an addiction.

    Bo Baby what's shakin' kid... Nice to see you lad. Rookie Bobby Orr card huh. Very cool... Orr dominated a game more than any other player I saw. By the way I saw him when he was a junior with the Oshawa Generals as well as many games down at the Gardens. Anyhow about Orr's domination, Gretzky dominated sure but you could double team him but you couldn't double team Orr. You couldn't triple team him either. He was faster and stronger on his skates than anybody else. I still remember the time fondly when the Leafs had a powerplay and Orr had the puck behind the net and Lanny McDonald was standing out in front of the net. Lanny chased Orr around the net 3 times and they ended up back in the same position as when they started. Lanny said he was so embarrassed he turned around and skated to the bench to get somebody else on.. LMAO. When Orr wanted to go there was no stopping him...... When you pulled the Van Morrisons "Blowin' Your Mind" album I was really surprised you never mentioned TB Sheets. That's my favourite Morrison tune. Nice to see all those early Stones albums Bo. I'm a fan of the early years myself. The Peter Green Mac are the only ones I have and I do have all of them. You showed a lot of great albums right out of my era. I always tell the kids that's the era you wanna get into if you wanna expand your musical tastes... Later stranger.

    • @earheadsix4119
      @earheadsix4119  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Bobby how are ya? That story about Orr was the best. You gave the best stories. I remember you telling me it was always better to go watch these guys as juniors as it was not nearly as expensive. I think we were talking about Andre LaCroix at the time. I have one or two more videos worth of records. But I’m going to wait a couple days. Edmonton v Vancouver game 7 takes precedence tonight.

    Interesting, I have about 95% of the albums that you showed in this video. We must have the same taste in vintage music. One LP I don't have that caught my eye was that France Gall LP. I stopped buying albums about 2 years ago, but I still make videos from time to time. You mentioned Vietnam. One of my last videos was titled door gunner music.

    • @earheadsix4119
      @earheadsix4119  Před 2 měsíci

      Interesting title for a video. My Dad is a Vietnam vet. I always found the link between the music of the era and the war fascinating. As the subject become more explored in the 1980s the media increasingly inserted the music of the era into the product. Movies, documentaries etc. I’ve got a few more cubes to go. This collection used to number in the thousands. Down to a few hundred now.

    Thank goodness that book was too much money for me, so I never bought it. THOUGH all my friends did, so once they started getting certain titles, I grabbed them digitally off of YT or from VCLT from you :) I got rid of my Super Session as well, don't like it that much. I got rid of Four Sail as well. I completely agree on Van Morrison - though I do like St. Domnics Preview.

    • @earheadsix4119
      @earheadsix4119  Před 2 měsíci

      Hi Kris. Yeah Four Sail isn’t a favorite. I don’t hate it but if I play Love? It’s not that. I know you were early in acquiring digital copies. That is the best way to go about it. I mostly listen to music, or podcasts, when I’m at the gym. Playing a record isn’t something I do often.

    Wow that pleasure seekers is awesome! I need to track that down. I only have the first shadows of knight, never heard there second album. That litter album is great! I haven’t found a copy yet but I just got a reissue of the 45 of action woman a few days ago. I love the wailers!! need to get more, I only have the wailers and company album which I found in the dollar bin, it’s cool to have an original on etiquette but its not that great, I need to get out of our tree, dose Rockin robin Robert’s sing on that album? Iv just started getting into Yé Yé stuff, I really like that baby pop album by France gall but i don’t know much about the genre. I don’t like post Brian jones stones. That banana splits record is really really good, gotta find that. Cool to hear Tacoma record show get a mention! I live in Tacoma and always look forward to it, always lots of good cheap 45s. Did you go to the Olympia record show this year? I was pretty disappointed.

      IDR if Gail is in out of our tree but definitely is on Live at the castle. A 45 of action woman? Nice score. I had so many garage/psych 45s but I gave the majority away. I had Open up your door by Richard and the young lions but I could never find the picture sleeve.
